the moon stayed beside all transgressions
peeping through the bars to the twilight sky
felt like cheating the system, but the illumination
still splattered a beautiful canvas across her vision
in the middle of nowhere, the stars shone like they hadn't before
bright points of radiance, beaming their power
through the cosmos to reach her wandering eye
they might've been dead for many years, eons, thousands
of lifetimes gone by and yet they live
live on in the memories of those who have witnessed their beauty
but also in those who have failed to recognize their innate necessity
the bars kept her behind them, but these little guys would be here forever
never leaving her side
she could stare up, up, up, and never be alone
