13 - Birds of Prey(Or, Tommy And A Woman Bully Wilbur)
The Mindspace(That's what he calls it) is dark and cold.
But he has his Blue.
His warm Blue.
His forever Blue.
Tommy sat on a park bench with a huff. Wilbur had told him to wait here; he said he'd wanted Tommy to 'meet someone'. Tommy was not interested in meeting someone. Wilbur was plenty someone for Tommy.
It had been, like, thirty minutes, and Wilbur and the Someone still weren't here. Tommy stood up and walked a lap around the park bench, flexing his wings. Wilbur and the Someone were very slow.
A scream came from the general direction of the sky. A very high-pitched scream.
Tommy's head jerked upwards and he flew upwards without another thought, looking around wildly. Too bad he had no fucking powers to help with shit. He didn't even have his dart gun on him!
Tommy saw a very large and oddly shaped thing flying at him. The thing was kicking its legs and was held up by a human with wings and- Oh, the thing was Wilbur.
And he was flying.
Fucking dumbass.
...But who had screamed?
Whatever. Wilbur was flying. And someone was carrying him. Another avian...
Tommy hadn't met any avians other than Phil in a while(Gods, Philza Minecraft was so fucking cool). Other than Corvid and Hollywood, but they hadn't really met. It was more like... Seen in passing for Hollywood and 'almost been captured by several million times' for Corvid.
Wilbur and (presumably)the Someone were drawing nearer to where Tommy was hovering in the sky. Flying with painted wings was a pain, especially when you didn't want the paint fucking scraping off.
As Wilbur and the avian got closer, Tommy could see that the Someone was a girl. Strong enough to hold Wilbur, somehow(Was this bitch on 'roids?).
As they got close enough, Wilbur waved to the best of his ability. "Hey, Toms."
Tommy crossed his arms. "Took you long enough." He glanced at the girl, and surprisingly enough, she was the one from the café. She was studying him very seriously like he was a disease or something.
They landed, Wilbur's knees buckling as his feet hit the ground. The girl landed too, standing in a way that made Tommy question just how suspicious of everything she was.
She turned to Wilbur. "Next time, give me more of a warning. I ditched my plans with Miko and Willow for this, you bastard."
Tommy scrunched his nose. He felt like an outsider. "Who're they?"
The girl with green wings glanced at him. "A couple of friends of mine. Siblings. Avians, like us." She grimaced slightly. "Primes, I'm bad at this. Th' name's Persephone."
At least she was self-aware...?
"Tommy." He said, silently grateful that she didn't initiate a handshake. Handshakes always ended up bad for him. "Who screamed up there? Was that you?" He asked Persephone.
Wilbur frowned. "Are you implying my scream sounds like a girl's?"
Tommy couldn't help but laugh and Persephone smirked. At least there was one thing they both enjoyed; tormenting Wilbur.
Persephone sighed. "Okay, I can only stay for a bit, because I'm still going to see Miko and Willow. You can't convince me otherwise, Wil."
Wilbur shrugged. "Whatever. I just wanted you guys to meet, I guess."
Tommy had been unusually quiet throughout this whole encounter. Persephone turned to him and Wilbur.
"Speaking of Miko and Willow, do you two want to come meet them with me?" She asked casually.
Tommy's 'friend circle' had pretty much doubled in the past week(From Tubbo and Ranboo[and... Well, there was him... But they weren't in contact anymore] to Tubbo, Ranboo, Wilbur, and Phil) so he wasn't sure how much more human interaction he could take.
But Wilbur was smiling encouragingly and his head was nodding and Persephone was grinning faintly, although she still had that look of ultimate unsureness about her... Wilbur didn't seem to notice, though.
"Great!" Persephone said crisply, clapping her hands together. "We have to carry Wilbur, though-" At this, Wilbur scoffed slightly, crossing his arms lightheartedly. "-Or I can, if you don't want to..."
She shot a glance at his wings and Tommy felt both nervous and angry as she did so. Half of his brain was saying 'She thinks my wings aren't good enough??' While the other half was screaming 'Primes, she knows, she sees the paint, she knows-'
"I can help carry him." He volunteered eventually, unable to avoid shooting a glance back at his wings.
Persephone nodded. "Cool. I guess we each take an arm... or something?"
"No, no, do not take my arms, thank you very much..." Wilbur said nervously. "I have... a bruise. Bumped into a doorknob."
Tommy knew about flimsy excuses; hell, he'd made up more than he could count. And that was definitely a flimsy excuse. But Wilbur had no reason to lie, right? So what the fuck was up with that?
Whatever.
He reached out and grabbed one of Wilbur's legs. The other yelped and stumbled. "Hey!"
Tommy rolled his eyes. "I can't not take your legs, idiot. You already ruled out your arms."
Persephone's eyes lit up. "We could dangle him by his legs... Or, I guess, I could support his back."
"Yes, the second option, please," Wilbur said hastily, nodding in agreement.
Persephone and Tommy smirked simultaneously and Persephone grabbed him as they lifted off.
"We're going to the Green Root café," Persephone directed. "I know the owner. Nice dragon hybrid. Miko and Willow will be there already."
Tommy nodded vaguely, steering the flying body(And Persephone) in that direction. Not that she didn't know where she was going; he just happened to be facing nearly the right way.
Several minutes later, they touched down outside the café. Wilbur was dropped gently yet unceremoniously to the ground.
Persephone jumped over the railing around the sitting area and walked over to a table. That specific table just so happened to have two avians sitting at it.
A girl with long brown hair and a guy with fluffy black hair that had bleached tips. They both had pale purple wings, although the guy(Probably Miko)'s were sharper and more bird-of-prey-esque with deep blue ends and accents. Well, both the pairs of wings looked bird-of-prey-y. His just more stereotypically so.
The girl(Presumably Willow)'s were more rounded and wide with dark purple ends. White spots dotted the outer part and she held them like she knew what was up. Her face said that too.
Miko, on the other hand, had his wings casually on either side of him and an easy smile rested on his face. Both the avians grinned upon seeing Persephone and Miko waved. Wilbur started to walk over and Tommy realized he'd been staring.
He began to walk over, stumbling slightly on the railing as he leaped the fence. He hissed at the black metal railing.
"-Miko, and this is Willow. Miko and Willow, this is Tommy. You've met Wilbur."
Ah. Persephone was introducing them. Tommy managed an awkward wave with his wing.
"A pleasure." Miko said. "You're a songbird avian, right? Or a hawk? No, not a hawk, wings are too round..." He trailed off, mumbling to himself.
Willow chuckled. "I remember Miko's wing identification ceremony. Easy to tell he was a vulture, even with all the blood."
'Wing idenfitication ceremony'? Tommy's brow furrowed. Wait... "...What do you mean, 'blood'?" He asked nervously. Wilbur, Miko, and Persephone stopped their mild conversation to look at him in confusion, but it was Willow who spoke up.
"When Avians first get their wings... They come bursting out of our backs; right through our skin. I- A lot of blood comes out. You would have heard stories from the people at the ceremony, surely..." Her voice trailed off nervously.
The silence that followed was awkward and Tommy shifted uncomfortably. Was he supposed to have had a 'wing identification cerenmony'? With who? He'd had his wings for as long as he could remember...
His eyes glazed over slightly as he thought. The four others talked but it was just background noise to Tommy...
Was he... missing something big?
Was he supposed to have a ceremony?
Was there something...wrong with him?
