Prologue
"According to our blood test, her condition's gotten worse. From 13 g/dL of hemoglobin in her blood, it dropped to concentrations below 8.0 g/dL." the doctor informs us. My father was sitting across me, and my brother beside me, gripping my hand.
I knew at some point this was going to happen to me too. I've looked it up, studied it. I bet you noticed that I didn't mention my mom, she's not at home making us dinner. She's in a better place, watching over us.
"Is there any treatment for this? Please, anything to keep my daughter alive." my father begs. We weren't poor, but we weren't rich either. I know that whatever treatment is given to me, I'll die eitherway, why push us to bankruptcy when I can just accept my fate?
"We can treat it, but it will cost a lot. There will be regular blood transfusions, check-ups, and a lot of iron medications. I do recommend for her to stay indoors, home-schooling for her safety." the doctor tells us.
"How long does she have?" my brother finally asks.
I watched my mother die, and we couldn't do anything about it. She didn't let us do anything about it. My heart aches that I didn't keep pushing her to live, for us.
"She has a month at the very least, I'm sorry. If her body does accept the treatment faster then she can last longer, but based on the sudden reaction of her body to our previous attempt to treat her, and her refusal to take her vitamins, we'll just have to pray for the best."
31 days to live? I'll make the most of it. It's for the best.
