Chapter 7: Your girlfriend?

"It's who's birthday?" I asked again.

"Blaze" Axel informs me.

"Why didn't I know about this?"

"Because you weren't interested before"

"I am interested now"

"Well, yeah it's his birthday, why?"

"I have to return him a favor" I smile.

"Sis, wait," Axel grabs my hand and stops me from going upstairs. "Are you sure it's nothing more than that?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, you're not crushing on him, right?"

"I don't know how it feels like, so, how should I know?"

"I just don't want you to get hurt, especially with my bestfriend" he frowns. I hug him and nod. I understood what her meant. He wanted me to take care of myself, he knows how fragile I am.

Once we pulled away, I went up to my room and called Blaze.

"These calls are getting more frequent you know" I hear him and I could just imagine a smirk on his face.

"Happy birthday" I greet him with a smile.

"Who told you?"

"Axel" I laugh.

"Nobody was supposed to know" I could sense the sadness in his voice.

"Why not?"

"That's only a thing I should know" he avoids my question.

"So, want to celebrate?"

"I don't celebrate" he answers in a cold tone, which shocks me.

"Oh, sorry for bothering you" I said, feeling down all of a sudden.

"No, it's fine. I shouldn't have snapped like that. I'll come over, okay?"

"Thanks, I just wanted you to enjoy your day" I smile.

After the call, I dressed up in jeans and a simple shirt, and waited.

Today, I plan to cross something off of my list.

Bake a cake for someone special.

I thought about what Axel had said.

"You're not crushing him, are you?"

What was he to me? I feel like he was my partner in crime, or bestfriend but I feel something more. I slap my cheeks and snap myself out of it.

Don't ruin your relationship by doing that, Catherine.

He flirts but like my brother said, he could hurt me. He did sleep with half of the cheerleading team already, what's so different with getting to me? He's better off as just a..

Bestfriend?

-*-

"What are we doing here again?" Blaze asks me as I keep putting ingredients into the cart.

"Buying stuff to make you a cake"

"Oh, you're making me a cake?" he checks his phone. "I'm someone special?" he cooes.

"Yeah" I shrug as I reach for the flour-- try to at least. I hear Blaze laugh behind me.

"Need help with that?" I turn to him and nod. "Potato" he mumbles, chuckling.

"Did you call me a potato?!"

"Yes," he crouches and grins at me. "Hop on my back"

I carefully sit on his shoulders and held on. He holds my legs and got up.

"Can you reach it now?"

"Yep" I answer, reaching for the bag of flour. "Thank you, put me down now" I gripped on his shoulders tighter.

He crouched down again and I hopped off, placing the flour in the cart.

"Let's go check out" he tells me.

"Sure"

Once we get to the counter, I see Blaze take his wallet out.

"Woah, who said you were paying?" I frown at him, taking out my wallet. "It's my treat"

"I wanted to pay though"

"I won't let you" I stick my tongue out and pay the cashier. Blaze grabs the bags and carried them to the car.

He started to drive away, I didn't notice we were going the wrong way until we pass by trees that were definitely not in my neighborhood.

"Where are we going?" I ask.

"My house"

"Why?" I ask.

"Since I made you pay, It's only fair that we bake at my house."

"Good point"

I look around and see us pull up in front of a simple suburban house. What made me excited was the sprinkler in the front yard. I quickly got out of the car and ran through the sprinkler. I hear Blaze laugh from inside the car.

Blaze stepped out of the car, carrying the bags and going into the house. We head inside and as soon as Blaze dropped the bags on the kitchen counter, we her the voice of an old woman.

"Blaze, dear, is that you? Back so soon?" the old lady comes too us and hugs Blaze.

"I guess so, grandma" he laughs, hugging her.

I smiled at the sight, he was a sweet boy. A true gentleman. How can someone like him actually break hearts?

"Oh? Who's this? Your girlfriend?" she turns to look at me and smiles.

"U-Umm, no. I'm just a friend" I say. His grandma walks away with a smile, leaving us to do what we were planning to do.

"Just a friend?" Blaze frowns beside me.

"What, it's true, isn't it?" he didn't answer.

I unpacked the ingredients and placed them on the counter, getting a bowl with his help.

"How do you make cake again?" he asks me.

"I don't know how to put it into words, just watch and I'll tell you how you could help," I laugh.

We started making the cake and put it in the oven.

While we waited for the cake to be finished, he invited me to his room. It wasn't as messy as imagined it to be.

The walls were painted gray and the windows were the only things that lit his room at the moment. He closes the curtains and turns his tv on, jumping onto bed.

"What do you want to watch?" he asks, patting the space next to him. I climbed onto his bed and laid down. I felt so relaxed on his bed.

"Transformers"

"Really? I thought you'd go for the stereotypical 'The Notebook'"

"Well, I proved you wrong" I smirk.

"You never cease to surprise me"

I scooted over and kissed him on the cheek. Maybe this once wouldn't hurt. I smile at him and greeted him again.

"Happy Birthday"

2 crossed off today, 17 to go...
