Act 42; You rule the court.
"Okay," a certain sensei reassuringly commented. "Does everyone have everything!? We're leaving!"
"Thank you for taking us!" Most of the team bowed, a little nervous for today. Ren gave a hesitant smile, they'll be okay. They'll be okay. They're a great team, they'll win, She was just shaking with the thought.
Carrying up a bag, Tanaka waved Hinata over. "I'm finally prepared today!!" This made the ginger blush and a certain first year remember last trip. Kiyoko took a seat at the front, where the coach and adviser had been seated. The manager of the team sat next to them; it had been three to a seat.
The youngest of them wanted to sit behind her senpai, but everyone had been in the back, and it had been three to a seat.
Kageyama, Hinata, and Tanaka-senpai, her eyes trailed a little to the left. Noya-senpai, and Asahi-san... Then there's Ennoshita-san, Kinoshita-kun and Narita-san... But then Daichi-san is sitting with Sugawara-san-
"Oi, are you done spacing out already?" A certain blonde blocker snapped her out of her thoughts. Yes, indeed. She was the last one to sit down. "Yoshida-san, y-you can sit with us..."
Ren's face suddenly heated up, remembering all that's happened. How could she casually act like nothing has happened? Although she had been the one to end the odd tension. But only so they could play with no hesitation. Why was she thinking so much all of a sudden?
Was it because she was nervous? "I-if you insist..." She then took a seat at the edge of it, gripping her bag tightly. She, unfortunately, couldn't wear her uniform so. Instead, she was wearing a dark purple hoodie with white shorts.
With some black sleeves and tight under, of course. She couldn't live with over exposing her skin. That was too... revealing. Ren, although, let her hair down today. Even if she was skeptical, she had to look decent today at this specific place.
Other than herself, everyone thought she looked adorable. Even Kiyoko, who doesn't act all too friendly with Ren, complimented her. But she didn't know if that was the reason. Kiyoko had been more friendly now with the first year than what they started off with. So she just thought it was normal.
Yamaguchi, who had been sitting next to this girl, had been trying to get a good look at her. He probably found her the prettiest he's seen of her now than ever. But staring at her was odd enough, so he took glances every now and then. Tsukishima noticed this, and rolled his eyes. How long has he been trying to add flame to their fire?
He even took the courtesy to volunteer to get the information from the girls' Volleyball Club, just so he had an excuse to make something as innocent as a question seem like a date. All so he could encourage a specific seaweed haired friend of his to ask this girl out. Of course, he didn't like Hiyori. He never did. But he knew her feelings towards him- he wasn't that oblivious.
The bus then jerked forward once the coach asked if everyone had been set. Ren, trying to keep distance between her and these boys, sat as far away ontop of the ledge as possible. A stupid decision really; since she almost stumbled off before someone grabbed her arm. Looking behind her, she couldn't say anything. Ren was too embarrassed due to these conditions, but to add, her outfit.
"Careful," was all Yamaguchi could say, before pulling her a little closer towards him. Staring at eachother for quite the while, Sugawara finally gaped in amusement. "Aren't you two cute!" This made both their faces heat up, "I-I swear it isn't like that!!" They both said at the same time.
Most of the team laughed, and coach Ukai smiled in astonishment. "Ah, youth," was all he had been saying. Ren sighed, but the attention went elsewhere when Yamaguchi told her to sit a little closer to the two. If she didn't want to fall off, that is. Swallowing her stupid thoughts, she, in fact, had been so close to the brunette, that their shoulders had been touching.
This is bad, Ren thought, why is my heart pounding like this..?
--
When they finally got out of the truck, it seems as if a few teams and people here and there had been indirectly insulting Karasuno. Them being them, they handled it though. After a male had called Asahi older looking, the ace if this team made up the excuse of trying to look 'wild'. Sugawara then told him that Nishinoya's style had been the one to look wild. "Hey, look over there."
A few voices whispered, calling Kiyoko cute. "Oh really? I think the taller girl is my type," someone said, making Ren freeze. "Cute~"
"Why don't you call them out?"
"No way-!" That was before Tanaka and his best friend had been guarding Kiyoko like watchdogs. Ren had been standing near her two best friends, so she hadn't been as comfortable as she should've been. Taking notice, a specific male took hold of her arm and made her heart almost leap of of her chest. "Ts-Tsukishima-kun?" Getting pulled close to him, she walked next to him a little too close, "w-what are you doin-?"
"Shut up," he ordered blandly, "I could just leave you. Those comments are causing you to freeze up, so it's annoying to have to walk as slow as you." The youngest of them all had her eyes wide. Yeah, her face was unusually hot, and usually she wouldn't say much. But this time, she oddly tightened her grip when she latched onto the blonde. "Fine..."
The middle blocker looked towards her. "If this stops the commentary, then I'll do it." He didn't give a word, but Yamaguchi did. "Don't worry, he understands." The shorter teammate gave a thumbs up towards the girl, "Tsukki doesn't like the comments either."
"Shut up, Yamaguchi." The other male gave a sweet smile, "sorry, Tsukki." On the other hand, he kind of wish he acted before the blonde had. That way, he had an excuse to walk arm in arm with Ren. But the trio had to listen to other comments arise.
Like the recognition of Nishinoya and Kageyama. Then their comments on Hinata. Lastly, the ginger's admiration of the air salonpas. Realizing eyes were on Ren and Tsukishima's linked arms, the 15 year old felt a wave of embarrassment.
"H-hey," she looked up at the tallest. "I think it's alright if I let go now." Before he had any time to agree or disagree, she broke free herself. "Here, see? I'm definitely fine-" she then stopped in her tracks due to bumping into something. Or rather, someone.
Turning around, she met a pair of unfamiliar eyes. Standing at about 190 centimeters, was the famous Aone Takanobu. Feeling a mixture of fear and shock, she froze up. "I-I-I-I'm..." She bowed, "Sorry.!!"
"Oh? You should stop scaring people so easily," another male scolded the 2nd year. "Especially this cute little lady," he then gave a (charming?) smile. "May I have your phone number? How about it?" Ren then sweatdropped, and shook her head, refusing his request.
"Oi," Tsukishima called out to this male named Futakuchi. "We have somewhere to be," he then grabbed her arm again. "If you'll excuse us," the middle blocker pardoned in a snarky manner, walking away. "I get it, I get it. I won't let go..." Ren held on, shortly after noticing how angry Tsukishima seemed.
--
As Karasuno had been heading towards the gym, Daichi got pulled aside by someone else. He told the team to go ahead of him though. When they got back, Ren and Kageyama had been greeted by the grand king, Oikawa Tooru. As soon as the game against Tokonomi High, Ren took a seat next to her senpai. The rest of the game went by like a blur.
All she knows is that Karasuno had won their first match. "Datekyogou... That's where Aone Takanobu and that weird guy is, right?" Ren pointed out, getting a reassuring nod from Asahi. A lot of others then complimented Karasuno's #10, making Hinata a little flustered. But nonetheless, they made it to the 2nd official match on time, and commenced their battle.
A little skeptical knowing that the Iron Wall was partially the reason Asahi left the club, Ren couldn't help but keep silent. You're not allowed to freak out, Ren. And she's kind of glad she didn't. Before she knew it, Karasuno won against Date Tech as well. Along with the chanting stuck in her head for a while.
She leaped for joy, and started to praise the ace, since she knew that it was the right thing to do. "Wait- this means we get to wreck Oikawa-kun after, right?!" Ren timidly said, a small smile forming on her lips. Suga scratched his neck, "I wouldn't say 'wreck' is the right word..."
"But it's if Aoba Johsai wins their match." Kageyama looked a little psyched that they won, but the mention of his old senpai made him feel a little hesitant. It seems they spoke too soon, because Oikawa's team then won their game. That means the next one will be titled Karasuno vs Seijoh. They then headed back, and Ren sat next to Yamaguchi and Tsukishima again.
This time, though, she had to sit in the middle so she didn't fall off.
--
Takeda had been in charge of waking everyone up. It was especially hard since he knew they had played two straight games, and they were probably exhausted out of their minds. Walking over to where Ren had been to get her help, he realized she had been asleep, too. Sighing, he called out to her, making the most on the bus get up. She wanted to jolt up, but couldn't since Yamaguchi had been sound asleep on her shoulder, and Tsukishima on her head.
She had been temporarily stuck in that position. On top of Tsukishima's shoulder. She was beyond flustered, and unnecessary thoughts flooded her mind. Things like, he smells good or Tsukishima-kun is extremely comfortable. Her sensei noticed this, and he called out to their names as well.
When the team thought they were going to be on Television and all they saw was Oikawa, they just got the urge to beat him even more.
--
"We're back here again!" Ren grinned, standing in front of the gym once more. "Obviously," Tsukishima looked down on her. "This... is kind of exciting," she smiled, "I'll see Oikawa-kun get obliterated!!"
"That's what this is about..?" Yamaguchi chuckled, taking a deep breath. "Why do I suddenly feel annoyed?" Tanaka said out of no where, looking towards Nishinoya. "I get what you mean-"
"Yoohoo~ Tobio-chan!"
"Oh. That's why," Tanaka mumbled, looking a little pissed. A familiar male then frolicked over, waving down the ravenette. Kageyama stood in place, "good day, Oikawa-san."
"Oh- why are you all of a sudden so friendly?!?" He leaned back, noticing how Ren was trying to go unnoticed. "Hello, Yoshi-chan~"
"H-hello, Oikawa-kun," she looked over to him. "What are you wearing today? You were so cute yesterday, I almost had no words!" Ren put her hand to her neck, giving off an awkward aura. Everyone else really had no words to say towards this male's behavior. For sure, Ren was wearing a hoodie with jeans, and she even took the courtesy to ask Asahi to do her hair like his.
This way, she wouldn't have to hold Tsukishima's arm. No, why'd she think that first? It was to avoid the commentary. "Maybe she feels like it- what's it to you, pretty boy?" A certain bald male retorted, having Oikawa's expression darken.
But then it turned all glittery, "my, you think I'm pretty?" He put a hand to his face, smiling kindly. Tanaka deadpanned. Ren built up the courage to talk, "so, I'm guessing that's not all you wanted to say?" Oikawa looked back at her, grinning, "of course not."
He then gave an intimidating glare, "I'm here to tell you that we will definitely win." That made Kageyama and Hinata clench their fists. "No, we will-!"
"Oi, Shittykawa!!" Iwaizumi came walking over, "what do you think you're doing?!"
"Iwaizumi-kun, how are you doing?" Ren waved over, making the male avert his attention away from the trash king. "Oh, Yoshida."
"Hey," she went over making him look directly at her. "Listen to what I have to say," her facial expression turned all serious, along with her tone. The duo from Seijoh nodded. "We, Karasuno High, will most definitely win against you, Aoba Johsai!" Hinata nodded, and Kageyama smiled as Iwaizumi's eyebrows met, and Oikawa smirked.
"And after that," she took a deep breath. Everyone behind her had been extremely proud. That's right, she wasn't alone anymore. "We'll win again, and after that, and the match after that." She then took after step towards the two, "until we beat that school, Shittitorizawa."
And suddenly, all the pride was gone. Everyone bursted into laughter, making Ren look around. Even Tsukishima had been snickering. "What-?"
"Shiratorizawa, Ren, Shiratorizawa!" Sugawara tried explaining, but he could feel her embarrassment from over there. She was so embarrassed, her face lit up. Takeda-sensei sweatdropped, and Kiyoko had been chuckling. "That was perfect," Oikawa wiped his tears, walking towards her.
"Fine," he breathed, "if you're so sure, make a bet with me." Iwaizumi would usually say something, but even he had been thinking the same thing. "Eh, why does she have to make a bet with you-?" Nishinoya said in disgust, pointing at the setter. "Okay."
She was stupid. Hasn't she learned from the last time a bet has taken place? "Oh? I thought you would say no," the male then placed a hand to his hip, "no matter what it is, you'll accept?"
"Of course she won't-" Tanaka took a step, before the coach stopped him. Ren gave a stern glare, "no matter what it is."
"How interesting!" He gleamed, "then, if I win, you'll give up something."
"Like what?" Ren raised an eyebrow. Oikawa shook his head, "nope. I'll only tell you after." She sighed, but shrugged. "Accepted."
"Hey, wait, Yoshida-chan, are you sure??!" Hinata blinked, trying to make her change her mind. She looked at him, then at the entire team, smiling. "Don't worry, Hinata." She then patted his head, the same way Tsukishima would do her's.
"I'm only doing this because I know we'll win." That made the team go wild. They then started to say how they'll definitely take the match. "Oh?" Oikawa then smiled as well, "what's your condition?"
Ren thought for a bit, before snapping her fingers, "if Karasuno wins, since I heard you had good serves, I'd like you to teach it to us."
"Sure," the captain said with no hesitation. Ehh, he didn't even bat an eye!!
--
About half way through the match, Kageyama had been switched out for Sugawara. Ren, at first, felt a bit excited since she hadn't seen the male play for a while. But then she asked herself what she could do. "Coach Ukai-kun."
"What is it?" He replied, although deeply concentrated on the match. "Can I, um... Boost Kageyama's morale-?"
"Could you do that??!" He asked her, and she jumped back due to the sudden noise. "Well I..." Her cheeks heated up, "I have an idea.."
"Go for it," Karasuno landed a point. "If you can get him to calm down, go all out, Yoshida." Her eyes glistened and she nodded. Walking towards the other setter, she called out to him. He seemed in all pretty bad mood, but she approached him even so.
"Kageyama," this caused him to make eye contact, but his gaze froze due to her stern look. "W-what is it?"
"Give me your hand," she ordered. Hesitating, he cautiously put his right hand in her left. A little confused, Kageyama just stood there. Ren then got on one knee and kissed the back of his hand. Kageyama blushing like crazy mad, the crowd went wild.
"Did that boy just-?"
"No way, to the King?"
"That makes him seem like a bigger King!"
She then let go, and stood up. "W-what are you doing-?!"
"Kageyama Tobio, also known as the King of the Court." Kageyama stopped when hearing this, but he felt a little uneasy. "I, personally think that's really cool," she smiled, making his eyes widen. "I mean, it could've been a bad thing at first, but now, you've really taken the best of it.
'If you want to be the last one standing, become strong'. You taught me that, Kageyama.
In chess, the King has to be the last one standing, otherwise he takes his army down with him. But then again, what type of King are you if all you do is give orders?" Kageyama realized that he has been doing that. For a while too long now. That was until he met all these people. "Aoba Johsai, rule the court. Oikawa-san is their King. No, Kageyama. You rule the court. You win this game with your teammates. Otherwise your nickname would go to waste, no?"
Ren then put a hand on his shoulder, "so go out there and do your best."
"She really does take after you, Sensei." Coach Ukai whispered to the adviser.
Kageyama gave a big grin, "yeah."
--
Much to Ren's dismay, Karasuno lost to Seijoh in a deuce. It was so close, but she's afraid that if she tries to comfort them, it'd be worse. Not only did they lose, but also have to feel the burden of making Ren lose her bet. Marching over to Oikawa's side of the court, everyone wondered why it was someone from Karasuno. "O-Oikawa-kun."
"Oh, it's Yoshi-chan!" She clicked her tongue, "I happened to lose a specific bet..." The attention of all the Seijoh club members averted to the two. "So what is it?" Oikawa then remembered how she boosted his kouhai's morale, which suddenly reminded him of how she liked someone on the team.
It can't be... He sneered at their side, before figuring out what she could give him. "Ohh, for your side of the bet, you have to give me a kiss~!" He said unusually loud, silencing the crowd, then making it go crazy. This way, he could both make her crush jealous, and annoy Kageyama.
Ren slow blinked, before processing. "E-eh??!" Tanaka and Noya were mid way about to call him a bad word, but Kiyoko stopped them. "Of course, you don't need to, I was just joking-"
"I'll do it," she bit her lip. She just gave her last kiss to Yamaguchi, which happened to be her first the other day. "What-?"
"I'll k-kiss you..." To that, Kindaichi almost screamed in shock. Luckily, Iwaizumi shut him up, like a good friend would. "N-no, I promise I'd prefer a date-" Before he could say anymore, Ren tiptoed to make her elevate herself.
She then placed both her hands on either sides of his face, and pressed her lips against his. Being in complete shock, Oikawa was tense at first, but then completely gave in. What seemed like an eternity for the two had been actually just a few seconds. Letting go, her heart beat unusually fast, and they stared into the other figure's eyes. Snapping them out of what they were in, had not been anything but the crowd cheering.
Some people actually were against it. For example, Oikawa's fan girls. Ren then gave a sweet smile, and waved him off. Walking towards the team, they were speechless. Hinata had just been about to say something, before she had ran off.
"Oi!" The coach yelled, sending Kiyoko after her. Oikawa stood there absolutely silent, eyes locked on in front of him. He then blew a fuse and covered his face shyly. Their coach laughed, and Iwaizumi was about to go over there to scold him, but he couldn't since the two looked so good together.
And he couldn't let his ship sink. "Oh? I didn't know the captain was into that stuff." Yahaba raised an eyebrow. Kindaichi pointed at him, "you're so calm but he just kissed a-a-"
"IjustwantedtomakeTobio-chanalittlejealousandIsaidthatbutIwasjustjokingIjustwantedtogoonadateandthenshejustkissedmeandholyshesagoodkisser." He quickened his talking, but his fluster hadn't been going away. "Did he just say she?" The team then remembered how she looked and their faces burned with the colour red. "It was a girl!?!!"
"Oikawa, you sly dog!"
"I totally thought you were serious about a guy there."
"Wait- didn't she just kiss Kageyama's hand?"
"Damn that King!"
A/N)) Sorry I had to rush a couple of things... I'd like to say that the ending of this book is soon.
Can you guess who she ends up with?
No? I added in a little of each ship. So you guys can make up your minds ;)
Did I make it harder? LOL
But yeah. It's a long update. Please don't hesitate to comment or ask questions even though this work is close to done.
