Act 29; My dignity, Yamaguchi-san.

"Why do I have to attend high school? Isn't it easier if I drop out?" She twirled and locked her hair in her fingers. "I'm going to take that as a joke." Her dad said, looking up from the famous Shiratorizawa website. "Eh? But I don't wanna. This school seems too sophisticated."

Her father face palmed, and sighed. "You're going to have to deal with it." Ren took a step back, "can I attend another one? Please?"

"No."

"Pretty pleaaaase?" She batted her eyelashes. "Fine! But Aoba Johsai is your other option." He opened up to their website. She investigated the computer before cringing, "why is volleyball everywhere?! Where is the basketball?"

"Why did you choose Miyagi? That would have been Tokyo."

"Damn. You're right- WHY DIDN'T I ATTEND RAKUZAN OR SOMETHING? THE GENERATION OF MIRACLES ARE THERE, GOD REN- YOU'RE SUCH AN IDIOT." The girl hit her head on the table repeatedly, making the person beside her scoot away annoyed. "You'll start in two weeks time. By then I should be gone, so I'll sign you up right away. Promise that you'll attend, alright?" She crossed her arms, making everything turn silent. "Fine..."

She felt a shiver go down her spine and accidentally dropped one of the gift bags. "Are you alright, Yoshida-san?" Ren picked up the bag and put her eyes ahead of herself. "I was a really snobby person back then." Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow, keeping close beside her.

She gripped onto the bags a little more, "but I'm impressed. After that I managed to change myself in only two weeks." Tsukishima kept looking ahead, trying to ignore the idiot behind him. Why was he stuck carrying bags? He didn't agree, it was Yamaguchi after all. Soon they reached her small residence, and placed all the bags on the floor in front of her house.

"Thank you guys so much! I had a lot of fun." She gave a bow and stood up straight again. "It was nothing," Yamaguchi smiled. Ren then raised her arms up high, confusing both Yamaguchi and Tsukishima. It wasn't like her, but being around them made her feel like she could do anything.

"What?"

"A high-five, Tsukishima-kun."

"No." As much as Tsukishima wanted to not upset her on Ren's special day, he didn't want to get too friendly. She then shifted her body towards the other first year, hands still towering over them. "Fine, Yamaguchi-san will give me a high-five; I don't need you." Yamaguchi snapped out of his delusional thoughts, "eh, m-me?"

She nodded, and the first year couldn't help but sigh. How could he say no? He raised his arms up and smacked his palms against hers. "Yosh, today was great guys!" She pulled her arms down and curled her hands into fists.

Ren cleared her throat, not wanting things to get awkward like they usually do. "A-anyways... I'll see you both later."

--

"My, what time is it?" She mumbled, took out her phone, but ended up staring at her new lock screen. She looked so happy, not like other times, and she laughed at Yamaguchi's nervous expression. Tsukishima well... looked like Tsukishima. From his bland expression to his cold eyes, that's what he was and who he will always be.

"My bad, I should be calling mom." As soon as she dialled her number, she picked up faster than anticipated. "Hello?"

"Hey, mom," Ren grinned at the sound of her mother's voice. "Hey, Ren. Happy birthday!"

"Thank you!"

"So how did your day go? Did you do anything with your friends?" Ren took a seat down on her bed, taking out the toast from a familiar gift bag. "It was so great today! They threw me a birthday party!"

"Really? That's good."

"Mhm, there were about 20 people there- Can you believe it? I got so many presents." Her mom chuckled on the other line, "that's great, honey. By the way, your dad says happy birthday as well... But you know; he can't really make time to say it himself."

"I get it. That's fine." The woman on the other line took a pause, "so what did you get?"

"Um- All sorts of things, actually! Basketball and volleyball equipment, clothes, plushies, toast, et-"

"Wait, toast?"

"Yeah, why?" They both ended up erupting into laughter, "goodness- who got you that?"

"This kid named Tsukishima Kei."

"Oh really? Kei-chan? He's a nice kid."

"Pfft- what?"

"He spoke to me when you left your phone with him." She recalled when she became unconscious and he supposedly spoke with her. "A-ah, yeah... Anyways! It's getting pretty late out. I should get to bed." The line stayed a little quiet. "Oh... Alright, stay safe."

"You too, mom."

-Disconnected-

Ren plopped down onto her bed; it's only 10:06pm though. She took a glance to her small work station and grinned. Jumping up, she grabbed her sketchbook and a pencil and sat down on the chair.

I haven't drawn in days.

Ren placed the tip on the paper and started drawing something, or rather someone, particularly a male. She drew sharp eyes and a very neutral expression on their face. "Heh, it kind of looks like Tsukishima-kun." The girl whispered to herself, and began sketching black rimmed glasses and short hair.

--

"It's so early!" She shouted to herself, waking up on her table to the ringing of an object. "I'm so damn sleepy- what time is it?" Ren yawned, glancing over at the clock which read 7:50am.

7:50?! I'm going to be late!

She was drowsy, and couldn't comprehend when she slept. As soon as she got ready, she threw the binder that was on the table into her bag. Then, the young girl rushed to her shoes, and slipped out the door. Upon arriving Karasuno, a gush of relief rushed through her, realizing that she was still pretty early. "Yoshida-chan," Hinata's voice called her from afar, making her squint to reveal who it was.

"Ah, Hinata. What seems to be the matter?" The ginger crossed his arms and looked downwards, like what he was about to say was going to be really hard for him. "Bakageyama said he would give me some notes for some math quiz we have today... I just figured out this morning!" Ren sweat dropped, you want Kageyama's notes?

"I-I can let you borrow some of mine," she offered, before regretting it. Her eyes widened when she realized she had brought her sketchbook, not her binder. "I'm such an idiot!" She beat herself up mentally. "Why? What's wrong?" She closed her backpack, knowing that the page it was on was the drawing of Tsukishima.

"N-nothing!" Her face burned up, and Hinata looked at her confused. Kageyama walked over and gave a loud yawn. "Good morning, Yoshida, Hinata." Hinata looked over at the raven haired setter who had been slouched down, walking towards them.

"Good morning, Kageyama!" He beamed happily. "H-hey," Ren managed to speak out. "Yoshida-chan said she'd pass us some notes for our quiz-"

"A-about that, Hinata... I kind of... sort of... might have forgotten them at home?" She nervously laughed. "Hm, but wasn't there something in your bag-?" She once again interrupted him, "OH- Would you look at that? My class started." She then dashed off, leaving Hinata watch her run with a deadpanned expression, "Kageyama."

The other male looked downwards, "yeah?"

"It's not even 8:30 yet." But with that, Kageyama's eyes shifted to the moving object far away. "Kageyama?" Hinata called once again, trying to get his attention, "oi, Bakageyama-"

"Get to class, dumbass!" He furiously walked past him, scaring the orange haired male. Eh?! What did I even do?!

The first year setter walked along the pathway Ren did. And, like he thought, he picked up something that looked odd. Written on the top, was her name.

That idiot needs to stop dropping her things.

As his eyes scanned over the paper, he realized who it was.

Seriously.

--

Ren barely made it to class. Upon running from the first years, she got distracted and ended up in the third years' section. "Now please submit your assignments." The sensei ordered, as the whole class reached for their bags. Maybe it's in there.

She thought to herself, maybe I just happened to bring my art book.

She then placed her hand in her bag, only to feel... nothing. "Where-" she frantically threw her hand back and forth in her backpack. Her blood ran cold, resulting in a very pale face. "What are you looking for?" Yamaguchi was curious enough to ask, after all, she didn't look okay.

"My dignity, Yamaguchi-san." Tsukishima started snickering, "so, you finally admit it." The freckled first year sat back in his seat quietly. "Are you okay?" Ren put her head on the desk, "yeah..."

"Are you sure, Yoshida-san?" Ren took a breath, "no... But I'll be alright. I just have to look for something."

"We don't mind helpin-"

"NO!" Ren smiled, "that's very kind of you, Yamaguchi-san, but I can handle it."

"O-okay..."

--

She got up from her seat and grabbed her things.

Finally, it's lunch. I need to find that book before it finds someone else.

She stepped out of the classroom, especially making sure Hiyori and Sayaka don't see her. "Oi, idiot." Someone nudged her shoulder, causing her to look back. Kageyama stood there idly, holding a sketchbook up. "You were lucky I was the one who found this."

Ren's eyes lit up, as she took it from his hands, "thank you, Kageyama!" In a swift movement, the girl then pulled him into a tight hug, turning the setter's cheeks all pink. Pulling away, she realized what she had done. "E-eh, s-sorry..." Her face felt hot, so she turned back around to put it in her bag, hoping that it'd make the situation less awkward than it already was.

She waved, "thank you again. I owe you big time!" Kageyama walked the opposite way, with a few yen in his hand. He didn't really care. It was Ren Yoshida, after all. She was the one who would do the stupidest of things and still somehow get away with it. Now which one will he take; yogurt or milk?

She threw the book in her bag, and saw Yamaguchi and Tsukishima walking out the door.

I can hang out with them... I think.

"Oi, Tsukishima-kun, Yamaguchi-san..!" She called their names out, making them spin around to the source. "Oh, Yoshida-san, did you find what you were looking for?" Ren nodded rather quickly, "yeah, thanks for your offer earlier!" Her eyes trailed down to see them carrying bento lunches.

"My bad... I forgot my lunch in my bag. Give me a sec." With that, she walked back into the classroom, and crouched down once more. But as usual, her thoughts wandered to someplace else. "What are you staring at? You took so long so we had to get you." Tsukishima said, agitated.

"It's... chess." Surely, when they investigated, there were two boys playing this mind game. "Tsukki won a lot in chess, back in junior high!"

"Shut up, Yamaguchi." The shorter male gave a smile, "sorry, Tsukki." Ren loved chess, and she won a few tournaments here and there. She never thought anyone played it here in Japan, other than Akashi. She thought it was just Shoji, but it was her lifelong dream to play Akashi in a game of chess.

She even planned it out. She would attend Rakuzan a little late, and walk in during lunch to see Akashi playing chess alone. Then she offers to play with him and she should probably stop being so delusional. "Oi, can we borrow that once you're done?" Both of the unfamiliar males made eye contact with her, "sure, we were done anyways."

The first boy stated. The second one got out of his seat, followed by the other. "You can use it. It belongs to the teacher anyways. So return it once you're done." Ren's eyes widened, she was sure she'd get turned down. Faith in humanity restored!

She went up to it, and started setting it back up. "What are you doing?" The first year grinned like an idiot at the two. "Play a game with me, Tsukishima-kun."

"Why should I?" She put the last piece in place, "because it's fun." He walked over and sat down with Yamaguchi. "What's so fun about it?" Ren took a seat down in front of him, "the game itself isn't that fun. It's the bet."

He fixed his glasses up, as Yamaguchi's jaw dropped, "you actually sounded cool!" Tsukishima snickered like usual as Ren popped a vein, "what's that supposed to mean?!" The shorter male backed away, "n-nothing..."

A/N)) What is life.

It's already 2016 wth I feel so old smh

Next part's gonna be interesting, I can assure that lol-

Update: I was thinking I should (as a side thing) maybe, maybe start a (fanfiction) manga just for the hell of it? And for practice? Yea? No? It seems like it'd be fun to do. I'd post it up somewhere as well for people to read owo but I dunno, it's just a thought.
