Act 21; Well, wasn't that fun?
Ren's P.O.V:
It wasn't my fault, so stop blaming it on me. I enjoyed playing basketball all my life and I grew up playing it myself. Whenever I found an empty court, in school or out, I played on my own. In junior high though, there was no basketball team. I was peer pressured into playing a sport, and one that I wouldn't stand out in.
Volleyball.
Wherever I was needed, I played. Nothing really motivated me, so I was put as a substitute. I was only great in one thing, and that was serving. I did pretty well, in my opinion, and I was put as a pinch server. 'If you underhand in a game, you'll get crushed.'
That's what I went by. I tried over handing, but it always hit the net. 'Another way, there must be.' Is what I thought...? So I tried smacking it upwards, like how you would receive a basketball. I don't know what they said... but apparently it was a 'float serve'.
I drifted away from my favorite sport, even if I had gotten attached to this one. That stressed me out. I disappeared from practice, and that was alright since no one noticed. And then, I didn't go to the tournament, and they somehow needed me, and realized. You don't appreciate it until you lose it.
Right?
--
"We're coming in!" Hinata-san yelled, after he opened the door. "Nii-chan, you're too loud!" A younger voice was heard, making me and Kageyama jump back, startled. "Really, Shoyou-nii... You don't need to do that every time you walk in-"
She stopped wording her thoughts as soon as she walked towards us, thinking that only Hinata-san would be there. The little girl widened her eyes, looking at all four of us. I don't blame her, really. We are like Titan's to Hinata-san, so it's only natural for someone shorter than him to be shocked.
She's so cute-! She looks like Hinata-san!
My eyes trailed to where she was staring, and to what I thought was Tsukishima-kun. But it wasn't that. Her eyes were fixed on Tsukishima-kun, who had been glaring daggers at the little kid. "S-so tall!" She shrieked, as she ran back to the kitchen. "Mom- there's some scary strangers in the house!"
Hinata-san threw his shoes off and dropped his bags, running after her into the kitchen. "No Natsu! They're here to study!" After he was out of sight, all of us stood near the door, puzzled by that reaction. "Really, Tsukishima-kun? You had to scare her?" The blonde beanpole started snickering, and it ticked me off how he hadn't been taking things seriously.
Kageyama stared a glare that could cut metal, murmuring words that I swear could be some time of satanic ritual. "What was that, king? Sorry I couldn't hear you from up here. "
"Oi, don't call me that, bastard!" Kageyama insulted back, not thinking twice. Yamaguchi-san chuckled a bit, trying to hide it, most probably since he had wanted to get along with the other first years. "Oh? What's this? I thought his majesty was raised in a castle, where did you learn such language?" Our setter didn't say anything, and just glared back at Tsukishima-kun.
"Guys, seriously. This isn't somewhere where you can fight." I sighed, as I pat their shoulders, sending shivers down their backs. "This is Hinata-san's house. Learn to respect it." I gave a small smile, making them stay still in fear. Well, I did learn a thing or two from Daichi-san.
"You guys must be Shoyou's friends," a brunette smiled warmly, welcoming us. "My, my. Where are my manners? I'm Hinata Shoyou's mother." She continued, as I noticed the apron she was wearing. "I'm Yamaguchi Tadashi. Nice to meet you." He gave a quick bow, looking over to Kageyama who had been next to him.
"Kageyama Tobio, pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Hinata." For someone surprisingly frightening, he sure is polite. "...Tsukishima Kei..." I gave him a menacing glare, telling him to be more respectful. "N-nice to meet you..."
I stopped when a sudden thought came and left my head. I stared down at my feet, shocked.
Since when did I care what Tsukishima-kun does? I mean- he's always been like that...
"I'm Yoshida Ren; it's nice to meet you, ma'am-"
"Mom! The curry's boiling!" Natsu...
It was Natsu right?
...yelled from what I assumed had been the kitchen, interrupting my introduction. "Ah, well. You kids enjoy your time here." Mrs. Hinata wished as she walked back into the kitchen. "...Curry..." Kageyama murmured out, as we all anticipated on how much he adored the dish.
"Shall we go then?" Yamaguchi-san suggested, as we all took off our shoes at the doorway in sync. I stood at the middle of floor, looking both back and forth. "Yeah... but where?" They gave blank looks as I had interrupted Tsukishima-kun's and Kageyama's staring competition.
"I don't know- maybe wait for the shrimp to come back?" I bumped my fist into an open palm, looking like a total idiot, "oh yeah, Hinata-san!" It quieted down, quicker than I had expected it to. "... Are you an idiot or something..?" I huffed, crossing my arms at the blondes comment.
"Oi, up here!" We heard a familiar voice call, as we began walking up. I guess it was unconsciously, since Kageyama found it pretty odd as well. At least it took me away from anything I could've thought about that jerk. "Here, here." Our fellow ginger first year said excitedly, as he opened up his room door.
"What a... room." Tsukishima-kun hesitantly stated, looking at all the volleyball posters in his room. In the middle of the dorm, had been a small, dark brown table, standing in the four legs it had been built with. "Feel free to sit down- I'll grab some juice." He said boldly, I guess because he would like to act more like a gentleman?
Hinata-san dashed out the door, leaving the rest of the first years clueless. "Well then," Yamaguchi-san started, "I'll sit here." He took a seat at the edge, in front of the doorway.
I'll have to give Hinata-san some credit-
His room's really neat.
Remembering past events, when Tsukishima-kun and Yamaguchi-san had visited forcefully, I mentally relieved myself, knowing that they hadn't entered my room. "Say- how did you even find my house?" The blonde of the three, gave a disappointed look at me, as he sat down, placing his bags next to him. He then took his pair of headphones and threw then on top of his head. "Well, first of all, we planned on calling someone," Yamaguchi-san sighed, "but that obviously was out of question since you had a password."
"Yeah- I came to Japan alone." He nodded slightly. "Then, we found the address on the back of your case and decided to follow it since it was nearby-"
"And then we discovered your place, opened the door, and then left. There, story's done." Yamaguchi-san looked at him confused, and Kageyama stayed quiet in the situation. "Tsukishima-kun, you're such a buzz kill."
"Isn't that what I do?"
"Whatever." He sighed, and started chuckling slightly to himself shortly after, which pretty much freaked everyone on the table. "What's so funny, Tsukki?"
"Ah, nothing, I just remembered that I forgot to tell Yoshida here to call her mom back."
My mother? What did this have to do with her?
"Wait- my mom called you?"
"Not really," Yamaguchi-san sheepishly said, "she happened to call while you were unconscious the other day." My eyes widened, as I grabbed my phone from my bag. No wonder she hadn't called me, or... I guess I happened to not call her. Scrolling past, I opened my contacts. "Come on... pick up..." I slanted my eyebrows, as the line continued to ring.
"Ren- WHY HAVEN'T YOU CALLED ME?!" I distanced the phone from my ear, "h-hello mom..."
"Don't hello mom me- this is serious." I coughed under pressure, as Tsukishima-kun and Yamaguchi-san started laughing. Kageyama though, I guess he couldn't understand English. "I'm sorry mom," I breathed. "Whatever, dear. I just have one question to ask."
"Ask away."
"Why are you attending Karasuno?"
Eh?
I eyed down the middle blocker, who had talked to my mom.
What's his problem- did he tell her?!
"W-what do you mean... I'm attending Aoba Johsai-"
"Ren- I'm not dumb. One of your friends told me you forgot your phone in, quote and quote, Karasuno's gym." I bit my thumb. Geez, I was hoping they'd figure it out later.
"The truth is- I didn't get in... Aoba Johsai has a pretty long waiting list..."
"Why didn't you tell us that before?"
"Eh... I got accepted into that volleyball powerhouse school though. What was it again? Shita, Shima, Shari-"
"Shiratorizawa?"
"Yeah- that one."
"And you decided to go to Karasuno why?"
"I didn't want to be surrounded by sports anymore." Mother sighed, and I heard the dissatisfaction that lingered in her voice. "That's alright, sweet heart. I'm glad you made friends here- but please notify your father and I." I nodded, now holding the phone in both hands. "Thanks mom. Also, I'll try getting a job some place, and then I'll start to pay for my own things."
"Dear, take your time," she stated, "we'll deal with anything coming your way." I did the usual "okay", a little more grateful than usual. "And Yoshida?"
"Yes?" I said startled, since usually we stop after that. What had she wanted from me? "I approve."
"Approve of what?" I asked, confused. "If you can get closer to Kei-chan, and start dating- I approve." It took me a while to process this- Kei? Who's Kei?
"Eh, what makes you think I'd get along with that thing?!" I suddenly spurt out; noticing that only one person in this room was called Kei.
Tsukishima Kei.
Why is my face heating up? Well, it's only natural- I-I mean, anyone's would. "My, my. Whatever you say, Ren," she chuckled, "stay safe, alright?" I smiled, "alright, bye mom!"
"Bye~"
-Call disconnected-
She hung up with that, and I threw my phone on top of my bag, sighing in the process, relieved. "Well, wasn't that fun?" I squinted my eyes at the beanpole, "yes, it was the best phone call I've ever had-"
"I heard something about Shiratorizawa and Aoba Johsai- may I know what that's about?" Kageyama disrupted, obviously interested in the topic, making me cringe a bit. "Well- I was supposed to go to Shiratorizawa... But I decided not to..."
"Eh, Yoshida-kun was supposed to go to that scary school?!" Hinata-san walked in, with a tray of glasses, filled with orange juice.
Oh gosh, finally.
I grinned like an idiot at the sight. "Wouldn't that be bad? Our lovely assistant adviser would be part of a different school." My cheeks heated up, "not really..."
"Oh, getting flustered, are we now?" I placed my chin in the palm of my hand, resting it on the table. "Me? You're the one that would've missed me, Tsukishima-kun."
"Yeah- and Yoshida-kun wouldn't help a school like that."
I nodded, "I'm pretty sure a school as high as that wouldn't accept an amateur like me's help anyways." As Tsukishima-kun changed the song on his device, or so it had seemed, "A-anyways... Thank you, Hinata." Yamaguchi-san offered himself a glass, as he took out his notes. "So it's math first- right?" We all shook our head in disagreement, well, everyone but me.
"How about science?" Kageyama suggested.
Oh god.
