Act 1; Yamaguchi, You're late.
I can't be late on the first day of class. I can't afford it.
The 14 year old slipped on her black and white sneakers, shortly before running into the kitchen, throwing in two pieces of bread into her toaster. She anxiously waited for the toast to hop out.
She impatiently wanted to hear that sound.
As soon as it had finished, she threw the toast into a container and stashed it away in her bag. The girl then put on a raincoat, zipping it only halfway, before checking the time on her phone. 8:09 am
She stuffed her phone in her pocket and sprinted out the door, shutting it from behind. It was pouring rain, so she had obviously opened the umbrella she grabbed before heading out.
Almost to school grounds, the girl sprinted faster, for her class started soon, before bumping into something, causing her to fall back and slip. "My bag-" She stated, realizing she had dropped her umbrella. As she became soaking wet, she picked up her notebooks, wet from dropping into a puddle. The young girl rubbed her head with the palm of her hand, for she also had hit it when she collided with the object.
I'm so stupid. I ran into a pole-
"Ow..."
She looked over her shoulder to see a male about her age also on the floor, rubbing his head. Her eyes widened, as she picked up his books. "I-I'm so sorry!" She bowed, handing his things to him. He took the objects from her, shortly after his cheeks dusted light pink. "I-It was my fault-" He bowed before grabbing the remaining note books up.
The girl then picked up his umbrella and put it over his head. "You're getting all wet..." She stated then, giving the male his umbrella.
She had stood there for a good 30 seconds before her eyes had widened, with realisation. "Ah- I'm getting late!" She said, immediately storming off after, leaving the boy astonished. He looked over his shoulders at the moving object behind him, only to see another umbrella swaying back and forth.
You're the one getting all wet.
--
The school bells rang, and Yamaguchi made it in on time. He sighed out of relief. "Yamaguchi, you're late."
"Sorry Tsukki~" The freckled boy sat down in his seat, only to find his math notes wet. "Sit down class. Today we are having a transfer student who moved here from North America. Please welcome them into class 1-4." The teacher stated, before moving aside, indicating for someone to come in.
A girl walked in, all soaked with rain water and wearing a coat, making her look very unorganized. She then picked up a piece of chalk and wrote her name on the board, putting the chalk back down. "H-Hello..." She shyly spoke out. "My n-name is Yoshida Ren. I-If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me." Ren then bowed, giving a heart warming smile. Her dark brown, almost black hair was tied into a messy bun, soaked, and a strand of her bangs fell over her right eye. And in one swift movement, she put it behind her ear. Yamaguchi stood up, pointing at her, "you're that girl from the morning!" Ren looked up, putting her hand on her chin.
"Now that you mention it-"
"Now, Yoshida-san, you can take a seat between Tsukishima-san and Yamaguchi-san." The teacher said, pointing towards the desk next to an almost intimidating blonde, and a freckled boy. "Y-yeah..." She smiled, taking her seat next to the two boys, pulling a soaked notebook out shortly after.
"Yoshida...san?" She looked to her right. "Um-"
"Yamaguchi Tadashi,"
"Nice to m-meet you... Yamaguchi-san." Ren smiled, hiding her wet notebook between her legs, so nobody would see. Yamaguchi immediately noticed and chuckled, "you can have one of mine." He reached into his desk, and pulled out a notebook with a black and white polka-dotted pattern on the cover. Ren took it from him, and smiled. "Th-thank you, Yamaguchi-san!"
"Yoshida-san?" The teacher called out. "Y-yes?"
"Please refrain from talking during the lecture." Ren's eyes widened, "s-sorry..."
--
The bell rang, and all the high school students ran out wildly, since it was lunch. Ren started packing up her things, and put her bag on her shoulder, falling on her hip. She walked out of class and looked for a place to sit. Unfortunately, she had no knowledge of this school and had no friends to ask about it.
Maybe I should sit in class...
But I'll look like a complete loner...
--
"Tsukki~ let's eat lunch together!"
"Shut up, Yamaguchi." The freckled boy laughed. "Sorry Tsukki~"
--
"Um, excuse me? Do you know where-"
But they'd all walk away, and ignore her.
She just walked around, hoping she would encounter a vending machine, or a decent place to sit. After walking a few hallways down, Ren heard a conversation, not too far away from where she stood. The girl got carried away, and started to walk towards it. "Oi!"
"Ow, ow, ow, ow! I'll go bald, Kageyama!" She then encountered a black haired male and an orange haired male, but hid behind the vending machine. She got frightened by the male's unusual temper, but decided she had no other choice.
They sound cool, are they first years? Second years? Should I introduce myself or pretend to grab a juice box-
"Oi, whoever's behind there, come out." The male with raven black hair demanded, shocking the first year. Ren leaped, and thought of some ways to explain, but before she knew it, she had already started running back to class when they had started to walk towards her. "Oi!"
That was close...
She was tired, and had nowhere to rest. Again, she looked down to the floor and wandered around.
It's just like back then, huh? The American's wouldn't talk to me because I was half Japanese, and the Japanese wouldn't talk to me because I was half American-
Her thoughts were disrupted by her falling backwards onto the hallway floor, bumping into an object.
Again? I'm so clumsy...
Without looking up, she apologized, "I'm sorry-" It was just a garbage bin. Although Ren thought that no one had seen her, there were two witnesses that came from behind her, snickering. "Wow. You just apologized to a trash can." A tall blonde came from behind, causing her to turn around, with a red face. She couldn't look up at them, so she looked away. "S-sorry."
"What are you apologizing for? Wait, don't tell me that you're lower than trash itself."
"Yoshida-san...?"
The girl looked up, hearing a familiar voice, only to see a familiar face. "Y-Yamaguchi-san?!" She felt her face heat up. She was embarrassed that it wasn't just a classmate that had seen this, but someone, maybe the first person to actually talk to her.
A possible friend.
The taller blonde went quiet and lost all interest in saying anymore. "You're that boy that sits next to me... Wasn't it... Tsukishima-kun?" Tsukishima looked at her, throwing Ren a pathetic look. "...Kun?" Yamaguchi's cheeks turned a slight red. "Kun...?" Ren stepped back, looking down, even redder than before and shyly spoke out. "I-I heard it's what you call-"
"It's an honorific you use for someone of a lower status." Tsukishima smirked, stepping closer towards Ren. "Tell me something. Are you possibly looking down on me?"
"N-N-No... I just-"
"Let me guess. You're almost like the King. Are you telling me you're just like him?" Tsukishima enjoyed this. Teasing people, only to stop if he was satisfied with their reaction. "K-king..?" Ren asked, starting to look away. The female just wanted to get familiar with this new person.
She just really wanted a friend.
"Tsukki..?" Tsukishima looked at his friend, indication to letting him speak. "I-I thought the honorific, Kun, was used for someone you fancied..." Yamaguchi stood, looking away, before silence covered the entire conversation, making it awkward. Ren started chuckling, shyly. "S-Seriously? I thought it was for addressing a masculine figure,"
"O-oh, really?" Yamaguchi looked up, with heated cheeks.
"Tch." Tsukishima clicked his tongue and started to walk away, out of disinterest. After laughing for a short while, Yamaguchi soon spoke out. "Yoshida-san? Would you like to join us?"
Ren lifted her head with excitement. "I-I'd love to! B-but..." She looked over to Tsukishima. "Tsukki won't mind." She smiled removing her now dry hair from onto of her face to the back of her ear once more. "Alright..!"
