Chapter 5- Questions and little answers
Layla gave him a curious look, she noticed how tense he became when she asked him about the treachers and now wanted to know more about them "By your expression, looks like you know a lot about them, tell me... what do you know about them?"
Trevor slammed the rest of his beer, and tossed his bottle on the ground "Why are you so curious about them? I mean, what brought this on?" He began to get fidgety and stood up "I need another beer; would you like one?"
"I guess." she said, sounding unsure after noticing how nervous he was getting.
He came back with a couple beers, handed her one, and sat down. He saw the look she was giving him; her leg was crossed over the other, bouncing it around and biting her bottom lip. He sat forward and sighed "Treachers can be dangerous, especially if they want something, and you don't want to get on their bad side, they'll kill you just to get what they want."
"I've lived here for eighteen years, and have never heard of them. All I've ever heard about was that this town was haunted for many years and that there were vampires, zombies, and witches..." she paused, and thought about what he just said "What the fuck do treachers want?"
He shrugged his shoulders "It was always power, they were running this town until vampires arrived, then all hell broke loose, causing a war with everyone."
She leaned back in her chair, wondering why the hell they were after her, and how it all started after she moved to Crowburg. "Treachers..." she mumbled. "Why have you never told me about them before?"
He stared at the fire, picked up a stick and stirred the fire "I never thought it was important, it was years ago that they were around, and I just never liked to talk about them."
"Why?"
"Because..." he said quickly.
"Do you think they could still be around?"
He looked away from the fire, and over to her "I suppose it could be possible. They're good at disguising themselves."
Layla was beginning to feel uncomfortable, and was feeling some strange vibes. She thought she heard a noise behind her and looked behind her. Something didn't feel right, she looked back at Trevor and stood up "I better get going, I'm tired and have to be up early."
"You can stay here if you'd like." he says, standing up. He walked over to her and placed his hands on her hips, causing her breathing to hitch. She had a vision that flashed before her eyes, it was quick and didn't understand what it meant.
She took a step back and looked away "I'm just going to go home, thanks for the beers, and for the talk." she quickly turned around, and walked fast to her car. Trevor rested his hands on his hips, watching her walk away, and bit down on his lip, thinking.
Layla got in her car and backed out of the driveway fast, she didn't know what to think and thought Trevor was acting different than normal. As she drove home, she tried figuring out what she saw, it flashed so quick she had no time to see what it was, especially when she didn't expect it.
She got home and looked all around her while walking towards her door. She still felt the same presence in her car that she felt on her way to the restaurant, and had a feeling she was being followed. She locked her door once she got inside and walked over to her father's den. She walked into the room and stared at the wall of books he had.
She hadn't been in the room since before he died, and was curious as to what he had in the room. She always felt they were murdered, and thought there was no way that he would have drove over a cliff with her mother inside. She didn't know what she was looking for, but just started going through what was on his desk, looking for anything that would stand out.
She sat in her dad's chair, and kept spinning it around as she thought about her upbringing. She remembered her dad being private and was always at work, as well as her parents always fighting at night after he would come home late, blaming his job.
Her neck was feeling sore, and walked over to the mirror to look at it. She took the scarf off and became worried when she saw how red it was, she never grabbed the tube of ointment and didn't know how to keep it from getting infected. Dammit she groaned after not finding anything to put on the wounds.
She was feeling tired, and figured she would worry about everything another day. She climbed into bed and closed her eyes, falling into a deep sleep. She began dreaming about when she was a child, and the day she first moved to Rhode Island, then started dreaming about her first day of school, and how Trevor was the only one who would talk to her. Her dreams suddenly stopped and all she saw was blackness. Then, there was a face that suddenly appeared right in front of her.
She quickly opened her eyes and began calling for Alaric, please show up, please help me she kept saying over and over. She felt the treachers were coming for her and she didn't know what to do, or where to go. She didn't remember where Alaric lived, and was pissed at herself for not paying attention when he drove her home. She was still in awe about their love making, and thought about it the entire way home.
She tried staying awake for as long as she could, hoping Alaric would show up. She drifted back to sleep and started dreaming about the night her parents were killed. She saw them driving home, happily talking to each other, then saw them going over the cliff, crashing into the waters below.
Her dreams continued throughout the night, and luckily, didn't have any more nightmares like she normally would. She awoke, and tried remembering her dreams, and what they meant. She got out of bed, walked over to her window and looked out. She noticed a bird sitting on a branch near her window, and opened it.
"Hello there, I see that you're here every morning... maybe I should finally put up a feeder up for you." she started saying with a smile, she reached her hand out the window, hoping the bird would come to her, but flew off.
Throughout the day, she dug through her dad's office, looking through books, and paperwork. She tried getting in the desk, but everything was locked, and began looking for the key. She heard a knock at the door, stopped what she was doing and peaked out the door window to see who it was. A smile crept up her face and opened the door "Alaric..." she said happily, jumping into his arms. "You know, you're always welcome here and you don't need to knock before coming in."
He smiled "Thanks, but that would only work when the door is unlocked." he chuckled.
"Oh, right." she smiled as he set her back down. "I was wondering when I was going to see you again." She looked at him, and twisted her lips, thinking "Were you following me around last night?" she asked as he walked inside.
"No, I was at my parents. Why?"
"I went out to dinner, and on my way to the restaurant it felt like someone was in my car, but there was nobody inside, I could feel it, and assumed it was you following me around."
"I think maybe you should stay with me for a while." he said, looking at her concerned.
She sighed "I'll think about it."
He pulled her close to him and looked into her eyes, she giggled and looked down "If you're trying to erase my mind, or do some sort of trance on me, it won't work."
He curled his finger under her chin, and lifted her head up "I was just admiring you." he said softly "I'm worried about you, and worried what will happen to you if I'm not around... especially since you said you thought someone was following you."
"Well, I don't know for sure, it just felt like it." The longer he looked at her, the more she wanted to kiss him, she smiled and cupped the back of his head, pulling him in for a kiss. Her stomach began to dance the longer they kissed, and lost control of herself, kissing him harder and demanding he make love to her.
He pulled away and cupped the sides of her face "As much as I would love to satisfy your desires, I came here to see if you would like to go to a dance with me."
"A dance, when?"
"Tonight." he says, lowering his hands and placing them inside hers "My parents are throwing a masquerade ball, and I would love for you to accompany me."
"I don't know if I can go, I have nothing to wear, especially for a masquerade ball." she said sadly. She had never been to one, and was always intrigued by them.
He held onto her hand tighter and smiled "Come with me, my sister might have something that you can wear, and may have quite a few masks you can choose from." he started walking her to the door, and she stopped walking. He turned to her and tilted his head "Do you not want to go?"
"I do, but would your sister mind? She doesn't even know me."
He laughed, lifted her hand to his lips and kissed the top of her hand "She wouldn't mind at all. I already figured you wouldn't have anything to wear, and already talked with her to see if you could wear a dress of hers... come on, let's go to her house."
On the way to his sister's place, Alaric was curious how she was feeling the night before, knowing he went a little overboard with biting her, and was worried he may have gone too far. "How did you feel after I dropped you off yesterday?"
"I felt alright, although I was fucking hungry and thirsty. I had Trevor meet me for dinner, and I couldn't stop eating or drinking for anything."
Alaric didn't like hearing that she went to dinner with Trevor and wrapped his hands tighter around the steering wheel "How well do you really know this Trevor?" he asked, as he turned his head toward her.
"Seriously?" she asked in shock "Why would you ask me that? You of all people should know we've been friends since I moved here, especially since you've been watching me all these years."
He turned his head back to look at the road, shook his head and groaned "I do know that, but that wasn't my question. My question was... how well do you know him?
"Unbelievable... not you too?" She looked away, and looked out the window "I believe I know him better than I know you."
"Don't be so sure about that..." he muttered under his breath.
"What was that?" she asked, quickly turning her head towards him. She heard him mutter something, and was about to ask him to turn the car around and take her back home until he pulled over to the side of the road.
He turned toward her, and wiggled his finger, wanting her to lean forward as he leaned closer to her "Come here..."
She leaned forward, he cupped the side of her face and traced her bottom lip with his thumb as he looked at her "I'm not trying to fight with you, I'm trying to protect you. As for tonight, I want you to have a good time. That's why I asked for you to come along with me."
"So, is this an official date?" she asked with a smile.
"If you want to call it that, then I guess it is." He pressed his lips against hers softly and pulled back quickly before it went any further. He sat back in his chair and started the car; he knew he needed to say something quick before their night turned to a disaster. After having sex with her, he let his heart open, and felt she was becoming more special to him.
He opened the door for her, helped her out of the car, and walked her to the door. He opened the door, calling out that he and Layla were there. His sister walked around the corner and smiled as she walked over to Layla. "You're right, she is my size." she said as she approached her. Layla's eyes widened and was in awe at how beautiful she was, she was tall, slender, with long dark hair, and bright blue eyes.
"Layla, this is my sister Angeline... Angeline, this is Layla."
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you." Angeline said, as she shook Layla's hand.
"Thank you."
Angeline took Layla's hand and walked her to her room, and opened the closet full of dresses that she could wear to the ball "You can wear any one of these."
"Is there one that I shouldn't wear?" Layla asked as she started sliding the dresses to the side.
"I've already got my dress picked out, I'm going to get ready, and I'll be back in to help get you ready."
She looked through her closet, and felt a little weird wearing someone else's clothes, but as she looked at each dress, her eyes grew wider. She fell in love with nearly each dress she looked at, and didn't know what to wear. She then came across a black laced dress, and loved how it looked. She pulled it out of the closet and held it up to her, she looked for a mirror, couldn't find one but decided to try it on anyway.
She put it on, and loved the way it fit, but started to bum when she couldn't physically see it on her. She then got an idea and pulled her phone out of her purse, taking a picture of herself and looking to see what it looked like. As she looked at the picture she fell in love, and knew this was the dress she would choose.
Angeline knocked before opening the door, then opened it partially "Are you dressed?" she asked.
"I am, you can come in."
Angeline walked in and smiled at her "That dress is perfect; it looks good on you. It forms to your body very well."
"Thank you... I was looking for a mirror, but couldn't find one."
Angeline giggled "You won't find any mirrors in our homes."
"Why? Alaric had one in the room I stayed in."
"That's the only room you'll find one too, that's the guest room... for humans." she added.
Humans? she thought how many has he brought home? she thought to herself. While Angeline did her hair, she noticed Layla's bites and softly caressed her hand over them. "I see my brother was hungry."
Layla placed her hand over her neck, covering the bites "Oh, I almost forgot about that."
"That's alright, I have something that will cover it up and that will help cure it faster." she smiled.
She pulled a bag out of her drawer, and started putting some ointment over the bites "This will form to your color skin and will keep it covered for about twelve hours, give or take... but will also do some healing in the meantime."
Layla smiled "Thank you very much."
Angeline had her go through masks she had, then handed her a couple that she thought would be perfect with the outfit she was wearing. She decided on one to wear, put it on, walked out of the room and over to Alaric "How do I look?" she asked in a soft, sexy voice.
