Chapter 18- Karma
Trevor had an evil look on his face, refusing to let her go. "Trevor, you're holding me way too tight; I can't breathe." she cried out, trying to break free.
He leaned forward, and stared her in the eyes "You know who you are, don't you?"
"Let me go Trevor, this is not the time, or the place... if you let me go, we'll go somewhere to talk."
"Phoebe... does that name ring a bell?" he asked with an evil grin, and began caressing the side of her face "She begged for mercy, her life, and your life." he chuckled "The thing is... she killed my family, and deserved everything that she had coming to her. Especially when she went and had you hidden."
The anger within her started to grow, and was holding everything back not to attack him right in front of everyone. She wrestled to break free, and stopped when he started laughing. "You look just like her, especially right now... she was given a choice, a second chance to be free if she revealed your location, she refused to disclose anything. I still remember the look on her face when they wrapped that noose around her, hung her, and how she fought to stay alive, the kicking, the screaming-" He was cut off from speaking when he her hand broke free, and slapped him hard across the face.
He let her go, and smiled as he held the side of his face. She pointed her finger at him and snarled "Karma's a bitch... remember that... besides, it wasn't her that killed your family."
He laughed, firmly grabbed her hand and leaned forward "That's what you think darling." he says, pushing her back "If you want your life spared right now, I suggest you go tell that vampire boyfriend of yours, to leave. I'll even walk over there with you."
She pulled out of his grip and looked at Alyssa, she was watching the two of them argue and looked at Trevor "I have a better idea, once we're finished here, we can go back to my place and talk, just us." She walked away, headed to her table and finished her drink. She stared at Trevor and remembered seeing a karma spell in the book, and began speaking: You will now see the cruelty and the pain that you have caused me once again. I will now be turning the tables and I will bring light to your actions. I will be free when the light fades, and when the dusk comes through. The pain you have caused will come back to haunt you. I call for this spell called karma to happen tonight, because now I will stand and fight.
She sat back and waited to see what would happen, being this was her first time putting a hex on someone, she hoped it will work, and hope she said it right. Alyssa walked over to the table, sat down and stared at her. "So, what now?"
"We're going to my house to talk." she winked.
Trevor and Alex walked over to the table, sat down, and waved the waitress over. After ordering drinks, Trevor couldn't keep his eyes off Layla. He couldn't help but wonder what she had up her sleeve, and knew he needed to be careful. Layla turned and looked at Alaric with a smile, she discreetly gave him a thumbs up, letting him know that he would be following her home.
Layla looked at Alyssa and gave her a nudge "I asked if Trevor would like to come over, would you like to come over as well?"
"I thought we were going to talk privately." Trevor retorted.
"We can still talk privately, I was thinking afterward we could play some drinking or card games, just like old times."
"Whatever..."
"Come on, let's go!" Layla finished her drink, grabbed Alyssa's hand and pulled her with as she left the bar. Alaric and Adrian stood up, followed the girls out, then turned themselves into crows after seeing Trevor and Alex walk out of the bar, wanting to listen in on their conversation.
"Are you going over to Layla's? Trevor asked Alex.
He shrugged his shoulders and looked the other way "I don't know... last time I was over there, you accused me of having a relationship with her."
"It seemed like you were, but I'm over that now."
"I'll go with, I don't feel like going home quite yet anyway."
"Excellent..." he grinned "Come on, you can ride with me."
Layla and Alyssa were standing outside talking when Alaric and Adrian showed up "Trevor is on his way... are you ready for this? " Alaric asked.
"I've never been so ready in my life... after what he was saying to me about what happened with my mother, and how he explained everything, he's dead to me."
As much as she wanted Trevor dead, she was hurting inside also. She still didn't understand how anyone could be such a liar, a fake, and a backstabber. One side of her was telling her to torture the hell out of him, and the other side telling her to kill him, and to get it over and done with.
She walked inside and grabbed Trevor's favorite liquor, a bottle of scotch. As she walked outside, Trevor and Alex were walking towards Alyssa. Trevor nervously looked around, then looked at the bottle in Layla's hand. "Wow, I'm surprised you remembered." he says, taking the bottle from her hand.
"How could I forget?"
"Where's your boyfriend, is he not coming?"
"I'm not sure where he is, last time I saw him, he was at the bar."
"Shucks." he mocked, snapping his fingers "I was hoping he would be here; he's going to miss one hell of a party."
"Why's that?"
"Oh, just because..." he smirked.
Layla smirked herself, she had a feeling he was up to something, but little did he know, she was one step ahead of him. He opened the bottle, grabbed a glass and poured himself a drink. He looked at Alex and held out the bottle "Would you like some?"
"Nope, I'm good with the beer, thanks."
Alyssa walked over to Alex, and linked her arm with his "Let's go take a walk or something, so these two can talk and settle their differences."
Layla grinned and walked over to Trevor "So, about what you were saying earlier, enlighten me please."
He laughed an evil laugh and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "What would you like to know?"
She got out of his arm and took a step away from him. She then turned, and looked at him with hurt in her eyes "There are tons I would like to know... like, how the fuck could you lie to me all these years? Pretend to be my friend and be there for me the way you were? You were my best friend, I loved you... then I find out you're not my friend, that you used me to get what you're looking for, and that you're not even human, you're one of them."
"You're not even human." he laughed.
"Difference between you and I is, I had no clue... you knew all along. I never did one thing wrong to you, and here you've been out wanting me killed."
"That's all not true, I haven't been wanting you killed, not quite yet. I still need that box, and can't have you killed until it's in my hands... so, where is it?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." she sighed, acting stupid. She looked away, took a deep breath, and lowered her head. She closed her eyes and gave Alaric a signal she was ready for the next step.
"Where's the box? I know you know where it is." he demanded harshly.
"You know what? Here I thought I could get you to come over, talk out our differences, make amends and start out fresh. But no... you're a fucking asshole... and to think I spent good money on that fucking scotch, just for your stupid ass."
He laughed, lifted his glass with a smile and held the glass up to his lips "Thanks for the nice gesture sweet cheeks, but I think I'll pass on making amends."
He took a drink and grinned "Damn, that's good shit." He finished his glass, grabbed the bottle and began chugging off the bottle. "Ah... I needed that... now, I'll give you two minutes to tell me where that fucking box is."
Layla looked the other way, and looked at the box sitting on the ground about ten feet away from her. "Layla... did you hear me? I asked where the fucking box is?"
She snapped her head back towards him and furrowed her eyebrows "Why? What is so damn important about that box? What's in there that you want?"
"It has everything I need to take back this town, and to get rid of these vampires that are all over this town."
She laughed "I only know of a few that are here, and they have been here since before you all came to this town."
"I'll make a deal with you... tell me where the box is, and I'll save you from death. I'll even save your damn boyfriend if he means that much to you."
"Then you won't need the box and its contents inside." she smiled.
"I want them destroyed, tell me where the box is!" he yelled as loud as he could.
"Fine, it's right there." She pointed, then kneeled to the ground.
He walked over to the box and bent over, placed his hand on the box with a grin and rubbed it "This is it, we finally have it." he said happily, grinning ear to ear, he turned his head, looked at Layla and pointed his finger at her "This is the best thing you've ever done."
She continued watching him, and looked at her watch "Any second." she whispered.
He started opening the box, then began choking and coughing. He placed his hand on his chest and coughed harder. "Layla." he said while coughing "What did you do?"
She stood up, grabbed the bottle of scotch and walked over to him. She kneeled, and smiled and held up the bottle. She giggled while looking at it, then looked at him "Remember when I said karma is a bitch? Well... karma has you tonight. Tables are turned jackass, I originally had planned on killing you tonight, but I think I'm going to hold off and make you suffer." she tells him, as he began laying on the ground, trying to breathe.
Alaric walked over to Layla and placed his hand on her shoulder "What happened? You didn't go to plan."
"I know." she smiled "I changed my mind, and have decided to make him suffer for a while. I want to figure out how to bring my mom back, and have her help with killing him. She didn't deserve to die." she stood up and bit down on her lip as she thought about what Trevor said.
"My mom was killed because they thought she was the one who killed his family, as well as for hiding me and the box." she said sadly "So, I believe he deserves to suffer, especially for what he has done to me for the last eighteen years."
He reached out and pulled her to him, tightly hugging her. He kissed the top of her head and apologized to her. "It's not your fault." she said quietly.
"No, but it was my father who killed his family."
Adrian walked over, looked at Trevor, bent down and saw he was still alive "I thought you were killing the bastard?"
"Eventually... I'm going to make him pay for a bit, before he finds himself six feet under."
Adrian picked Trevor up and looked at the two "Where's this piece of shit going?"
"Back of Trevor's car, we'll drive his car to our place, and place him in the underground cellar. He won't be able to get out of there."
Alyssa and Alex walked around the corner, and felt relieved when they saw they didn't have to do their part with Trevor, they were both nervous and leery as to what would happen if something were to go wrong.
Layla explained what happened, and why she did what she did. "You guys can go home if you want, thanks for all your help."
Layla was all smiles on the way to Alaric's, she couldn't believe she pulled it off, and with no help. Alaric reached his hand out, and caressed her cheek with his finger. "You did good, how did you manage to do what you did?"
She smiled and proudly turned her head toward Alaric "Well, while I was working with Alyssa, I had her help me with a potion that I found in the book from my mom. We then poured out half the scotch, poured the potion into the bottle and sealed it up. I wanted a second plan in case the first one fell through. When we were at the bar and he started explaining to me things I didn't want to hear, it pissed me off and I placed a spell on him... put it this way, karma's a bitch and now he knows I'm not one to fuck with."
Adrian carried Trevor down into the cellar, laid him on the bed, and placed his wrists and ankles inside heavy duty handcuffs. After they were done, Layla stayed in the room, she found a chair and placed it near Trevor. She sat down and watched him sleep. She wasn't sure how long he would be out, but sat there thinking of ways to continue torturing him, and trying to figure out a way to bring her mother back.
She smiled and laughed "And you thought you had me..." she got up, and locked the room when she left. She headed upstairs, and decided to change into some nightwear. She had enough fun for the day and was ready to retire.
Alaric walked into the bedroom as she was changing and picked her up as she had her shirt over her head. "That better be you Alaric." She giggled.
"And what if it wasn't?" he asked, helping her take her top off.
"I would have put a spell on you." she smiled, then looked him in the eyes "Thanks for helping me."
He chuckled "I really didn't do much, you did it all on your own."
"You were still there, watching and making sure nothing went wrong."
"I have to laugh, both Alyssa and Alex did their part and neither one of them screwed it up. I was more surprised about Alex; I was sure his big mouth would have said something."
"He did good, even when Adrian and I were listening to the two of them talk, Trevor asked if he was going to go to your house, and Alex played it cool, making it sound like he wasn't going." he chuckled.
"Now for plan b..."
"I have an idea for plan b." he grinned.
"Oh yeah? What's your idea?"
He wiggled his eyebrows up and down fast, and grinned "It's been a while, and I'm ready to slay the vadragon."
