Emelyn knew ghosts didn't exist, but she couldn't deny the sound she had heard as she passed one of the cells within the dungeon area of the decrepit castle. Pausing, she watched as her flashlight beam showcased the dust dancing through the air while she turned her body towards the source of the sound. Standing completely still, Emelyn listened for it again. Deep within the bowels of the dungeon she could hear water dripping and maybe even the scurrying of rat feet, but there. There it was again. A sound that wasn't nature or animal. It was human.

Entering the mossy hallway, Emelyn picked her way carefully along the water glazed stones. Her flashlight beam was her guide, lighting up the path before her that she was sure many prisoners had once walked along back in the castle's hay day. Part of her mind was telling her that she ought to turn back and ignore the sound while another part of her wondered if this was the supposed ghost that people thought haunted the castle. Emelyn's curiosity got the better of her like it always did, causing her to continue walking even further down the hall.

Eventually Emelyn reached the end of the hall where her choices were a cell either to the left or right of her. Once more, she came to a pause to attempt to listen for the sound she had heard. Having a smidge of patience paid out when she soon heard a small moan off to her right. It was a moan that sent a chill down Emelyn's spine. She hadn't ever heard something so pained and yet heartbreaking in all her life.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" Emelyn asked as she turned her flashlight beam to the right.

When her light first scanned over the cell, she didn't see anything out of place. The only thing she saw was what appeared to be a corpse chained to the wall. As she studied the corpse a little closer with her flashlight, she noticed that despite how tattered its clothing had become over the decades, its body was oddly preserved. Taking a step or two closer, her eyes widened as she watched the head of what she thought was a corpse lift and lock eyes with her.

His honey golden eyes flashed like a starburst before returning to a deep onyx brown, his almond eyes focusing in on her as she stood feet away from where he was chained to the wall. His brown hair hung in a mess of tangles that framed his porcelain looking face, the tips of it touching a rope about his neck. Dangling from the cord of rope about his neck was a crude wooden necklace sign with the word 'abomination' painted across it in white paint. Surrounding his chained body was a ring of what looked like salt that had long since turned into a residue of its former self.

"Who are you?" his voice suddenly asked as she stared at him. "Are you here to end my suffering?"
