11/3 - Luke Sky(walker)

As I worked on my math assignment, my phone buzzed across the paper and I picked it up to see Faller's name.

Fisher: The deal is off.

My heart slammed against my chest and I put down my pencil to pick up the phone.

Leia: What happened?

The three dots that appeared, which indicated a reply was at work. I stared hard at the three dots before they disappeared.

Leia: Are you okay? Should I call you?

The three dots appeared again.

Fisher: Yeah, call me.

The phone receiver was cold by my ear as I waited for him to pick up. He picked answered on the fourth ring, but an eerie silence was the first thing I heard.

"Fisher?"

"Hey." His voice was dull and heavier than I remembered.

"What's wrong?"

The silence returned.

"Fisher?"

"Emma broke up with me."

I could hear his voice shaking.

"I'm sorry..." I started. "When did she do it?"

"Just now. She just left my place a few minutes ago..."

"Did she say why?"

"..."

"Fisher?"

"Can I come over?"

The chair legs squeaked as I sprung off my chair. "Yes, of course! Do you know where I live?"

"Text me your address. I'll be there in ten minutes."

I glanced around my room and sighed in relief. "Not bad, Leia. Your room is serious IKEA material." I headed into the hallway and tripped over a laundry basket followed by a face plant into the ground. "Luukeeeeeee," I groaned after my brother.

He couldn't hear me with Chance the Rapper album taking up half the house's space. With his door closed, it was illegal to open it. I hoisted myself onto my feet and scooped up the basket along with the trail of socks. I made it down the stairs and nearly dropped it again.

Dirty dishes were stacked across the counter and overflowed the sink. Luke's basketball and hockey jerseys from previous games were sprawled on the floor and couch. Opened bags of chips and mom's magazines took up the coffee table and shelves, and it smelled like a boy's gym locker in here.

I was out with clients so often that I never realized how often we didn't clean the house. In fact, no one was home since my parents were always working and Luke was out with friends or at a game.

"For the love of all that's good," I grumbled and dropped the basket.

I felt like a ninja as I snatched all the dirty clothes and tossed them in the basket. I snatched the chip bags, stacked all the cups and joined them with the other dirty dishes in the kitchen. I opened up the dishwasher, and the dishes and cutlery flew in along with the cups.

The doorbell rang and the panic set in. I dragged my arm across the shelves as all the magazines dropped into the woven basket. I tucked the basket in the corner of the living room and the doorbell rang again.

"Do you want me to get that?!" Luke screamed from upstairs.

"No!" I yelled a second back. "I got it!" I grabbed the Febreeze spray and drowned the house in the lavender scent, including the basket full of Luke's clothes.

The doorbell rang twice.

"Here, let me get it! I need to move my legs anyway!"

I heard the music get louder and realized Luke had opened his door.

"No!" I screamed and ran in the hallway. "I'm at the door. You can go back to your cave!"

I held my breath as there was a pause. Then I heard his feet retreat back to his room and the door slam after him.

I exhaled out, taking one satisfied look across the living room and kitchen. I opened the door and my smile immediately dropped.

Fisher's eyes were puffy and red. His face lost colour, tan skin washed out. He was buried under a grey Calvin Klein hoodie and sweatpants set and Adidas slippers and white socks.

"Oh, Fisher. Come in." I stepped aside and as soon as he came in, I embraced him in a hug.

He seemed just as shocked as I was and slowly wrapped his arms around me. I was thrown off by how warm a hug was... seeing as this was my first one in the past three years.

He smelled of Irish Spring soap and he was at least three heads taller than me. I was swallowed in his warmth; I felt so safe.

He squeezed me harder but was the first to pull back. "Thanks for having me. My driver parked on your driveway so I hope you don't mind."

"He could park on my lawn if he wanted to. My home is your home," I said.

Fisher glanced around the open concept home, and I suddenly felt paranoid by his silence. Our home was smaller than most in the city and we only had one bathroom in the basement and one upstairs.

"It's very homey in here. I like it," he said. "Wish I lived in here." His soft laughter made me smile a bigger.

"Glad you're here. I haven't had anyone over in... a long time." Fisher peeked into the kitchen and turned to face me. "Where are we going to go to talk. Your room—"

"Not my room," I cut in, and he raised his brow.

I led him towards the basement doors. "Luke would flip shit if he knew you were in our house."

Confused, he cocked his head to the side. "Luke?"

"He's my brother and your biggest fan."

He looked even more confused. "Your brother's name is Luke? And your last name is Sky..."

"Yeah. My parents are big Star Wars fans. It's fine," I dismissed and ushered him into the basement. "He's in his room right now so we won't have to worry about him coming out anytime soon. He sits for hours in front of the Play Station."

The basement was unfinished (one of dad's projects he never got around to finishing since we moved in a couple of years ago) and lonely green couch sat in the middle of the room along with a few single seated chairs. A box television sat a few feet away, our Wii station still hooked up to it.

"You should be thankful you don't have social media," Fisher said and sunk into the couch. "They are still going crazy about you."

"Wait till they find out we broke up just as fast," I bitterly said with a half smile.

His face fell, and I sidled next to him on the couch. "Hey. It's okay. Did she say why she broke up with you?"

He nodded but refused to say a word.

"Did she find out about the cousin history?"

"The cousin history was a lie," he whispered. "It's something bigger."

Stunned, it hurt to find out he lied to me; however, the pain was nothing compared to what he was feeling so I pushed it to the side.

I grabbed his shoulder and squeezed it. "You don't have to talk if you don't want to. We both don't have anywhere to go. There's no rush."

"Leiaaaaaaaa! Why the hell are there twenty cars parked outside our driveway and cameras outside our house?!" Footsteps rushed across the kitchen and Fisher and I exchanged a look of fear.

"Hide in the bathroom!" I hissed and kicked him off the couch.

"Where are you?!" Luke's voice shook the basement ceiling.

Fisher hit the floor hard and scrambled to his feet. He rushed off as I stared down the door that led to the basement.

I checked back to Fisher and groaned. "That's the closet! Not the bath—"

"Leia!" Luke swung open the basement door and jumped the stairs of the basement. "There you are! Why the hell are there so many people outside our house?!"

"Uh..." I casually leaned my elbow on the couch and shrugged. "I...I don't know. Maybe there's a cat stuck in the tree again?"

"Spider!" screamed Fisher. He fell out of the closet, right next to Luke's feet.
