Thinking Out Loud
We were just sitting at home - Dan and I - with our radio on, listing to whatever was good while sitting mindlessly on the sofa. It was a slow day, not really very much to do. Then the song came on:
When your legs don't work like they used to before...
I heard the song come on by the first note, and I faced Dan. I saw him smile. It was our song, "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran.
"I love this song," he said quietly.
And I can't sweep you off of your feet...
"I know you do. I do too," I said.
Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love? Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?
He grinned again, listening to each lyric. I knew he knew them all by heart. We've heard it so many times together. It was our song. He bit his lip, and I couldn't help it but move a bit closer to him. He took me under his arm and hugged me.
Darling I, will, be lovin' you, 'til we're seventy...
Dan kissed my cheek, and took my hand. He stood up with me, and pulled my body close to his. "And baby my, heart, could still fall, as, hard at twenty-three," he sang with the lyrics.
I giggled. He was always trying to be cute for me. He took my hand and put his on my hip. Mine went over his shoulder.
"May I have this dance, Phil?" he asked.
"Of course."
And I'm thinking 'bout, how...
"People fall in love in mysterious ways," he sang sweetly. "Maybe just the touch of a hand."
"Well me I fall in love with you every single day," I joined in. "And I just want to tell you I am."
He smiled, and pulled me close, swaying my body with his. He kept his eyes on me. He was so beautiful and sweet. So honey now, take me into your loving arms...
His feet moved around mine, and I let him lead. His eyes seemed so pleased. Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars...
Dan quickly put his lips to mine. "I love you, Phil," he whispered as to not interrupt the music.
"I love you too," I hummed with the lyrics. Place your head on my beating heart...
I stared into his beautiful eyes again. I'm thinking out loud...
Maybe, "We found love right where we are," we sang together, smiled showing on both sides of us. I put my head over his chest and listened to his heart as the lyrics continued. It still was beating fast. Even after being together for years, Dan still got nervous. I found it sweet that he cared so much. I looked up at him. He kissed my head. Both of us were so overcome by each other that we didn't know what to say. I lifted myself and pushed into his chest, hoping he would stay just as close. His hand comfortably wrapped my waist tighter and closer. I relaxed my head on his shoulder.
Cause honey your, soul, could never grow, old; its evergreen...
"And baby your, smile's," he added, "forever in my mind and memory."
"You nerd," I said to him.
And I'm thinking 'bout how, people fall in love in mysterious ways. Maybe it's all part of a plan...
At this, Dan took my hand and spun me around until I almost fell into him, giggling like a child. Well I'll just keep on making the same mistakes.... I pushed him back onto the sofa and kissed him. Hoping that you'll understand...
Well baby now! "Take me into your loving arms," I sang to him, kissing his nose.
"Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars," he continued, snuggling up closer.
Place your head on my beating heart. I'm thinking out loud. Maybe, we found love right where we are.
The song continued to play the instrumental part, and Dan leaned in and kissed me again, our noses touching.
"We aren't very good dancers," I stated with a laugh.
"Doesn't matter. I'd dance with you every day if you want."
Ha la la la, la la la, la la la, la la la, la...
My arms hooked around his neck to keep him close and in contact. He held around my waist again. "I like lazy days," he said.
"Me too." I found myself kissing him again. "You're so romantic."
"You are too."
I wasn't entirely sure what to say, so I just smiled and stared at him, resting my head on his shoulder and listening to the rest of the beautiful chorus again. So baby now, take me into your loving arms. Dan kissed my head again through my hair. Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars. Oh darling, place your head on my beating heart. I'm thinking out loud. Maybe, we found love right where we are.
Maybe, we found love right where we are.
"We found love right where we are," he sang to me again, kissing my cheek gently as the song came to an end.
"I love you," I told him again.
He pulled me closer under his arm.
The radio buzzed, and a new song played. Dan leaned over and switched it off, going to his phone.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
He put it down, and the line played again: When your legs don't work like they used to before... "Care to dance again?"
I stood up, grinning excitedly, and took him by the hand as we begun our dance again. I truly understood our favourite line:
We have found love right where we are.
