Alana stormed up to the area that the Ares cabin was training in. Only a few of them were still there, but of course Alana knew the person she was looking for would still be there.

"Clarisse!" She screamed, red in the face. The curly haired girl quickly looked up to see an angry Alana, but it didn't seem to be directed her way. "We need to talk in my cabin." Alana said before storming off to her cabin.

Clarisse looked at her cabin mates silently before following the angry girl. The other Ares kids were confused, they had never seen the huntress so mad.

"Lana, what's wrong?" Clarisse asked, gently shutting the door to the cabin.

Alana threw the pillow she was adjusting onto the ground, hard. "He cheated on me! With one of my friends! Then, he broke up with me the second he got caught by someone, so I couldn't break up with him."

"He what?!" The daughter of Ares dropped her jaw and balled up her fists. "Ugh I'm killing him. I literally threatened him when you started dating and-"

"Risse," Alana called, distracting the other girl. "I got it covered." She slowly grinned, making Clarisse look at her and try not to smile too.

"What did you do?" Clarisse asked.

"Maybe don't go into your cabin for a while," the huntress admitted. "I put glitter all over his stuff. Jay hates glitter."

The curly haired girl laughed. "That's hilarious." They high fived. "But seriously he's such an asshole. I told you. Jamarion doesn't give a shit about anyone."

"I'm sorry I didn't listen to you," Alana apologized. "I just don't understand, Clar!" She turned around and started pacing around the cabin. "I'm friends with everyone! Everyone likes me! Why does no one want to date me?" The daughter of Artemis pouted and flopped onto her bed.

Clarisse sat down on Alana's bed beside her. "They don't deserve you, Starshine. There's someone out there, don't stress. Maybe take a break from dating for a while."

The huntress sat up and leaned on the taller girl's shoulder. "Maybe you're right," she muttered.

Clarisse put an arm around Alana and squeezed her lightly. "I don't think having so many friends in the Aphrodite cabin is helping," she laughed. "Plus, everybody thinks you're an Aphrodite kid at first and they're known heartbreakers. So, it's a goal to try to break the heart of an Aphrodite kid before they do it to you."

The shorter girl shifted to look at Clarisse and furrowed her eyebrows. "Everyone thinks I'm an Aphrodite kid?"

"Well yeah," the daughter of Ares pulled back slightly to look at her face. "You're really pretty Starshine, get that in your head."

Alana felt her whole body tingle. Clarisse thought she was really pretty? Why does that even matter to her? "Well..." she trailed off, unsure what to say. "I don't need to date right now. I mean Jay was being a bitch, now Mia's a bitch for sleeping with my boyfriend, my last girlfriend was fine, but she broke up with me for no reason! Now she doesn't talk to me at all. I don't get it."

"They don't deserve you." Clarisse stated firmly. "You deserve someone who puts you first. You're always putting everyone else first."

The huntress shook her head. "I don't need them. You always put me first."

Clarisse felt her chest tighten for some reason. Her face felt hot. "I always will."

"You think it's safe to eat?" Percy asked as he stood in Medusa's dining room with Alana and Grover.

"Um no," Alana answered immediately. "We're being nice, not ignoring every life skill you were taught as a kid. Stranger danger."

Grover glanced pleadingly at the huntress. "Percy, Alana, I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm really hungry, and I'm ready to take that chance."

"Grover-"

A bell chiming made them stop. Alana turned around to see Annabeth and smiled.

"Thanks for coming," Percy said.

Annabeth looked extremely uncomfortable. Alana felt bad for making her come in. There was no way she was standing out there by herself though. And Alana wasn't leaving Percy in here either. The brunette stuck her arm out and the daughter of Athena came over to her. Alana wrapped her arm around the younger girl to comfort her. "This isn't the same for me as it is for you," Annabeth told him.

"Why?" The blonde asked obliviously.

"You're concerned I would hold a grudge against you simply because you are a daughter of Athena?" Medusa asked, coming into the room. "You shouldn't be. We're not our parents after all. And you and I might have more in common than you think. Please, sit and eat."

Alana was wondering why she knew so much about them. Percy made sense to her, but how did she know Annabeth was a daughter of Athena? The four slowly sat down and Grover started grabbing some food.

"Alana," Medusa spoke, startling the teenager. She knew her name? "Daughter of Artemis, you haven't said much. What's on your mind?"
Annabeth and Alana gave each other startled looks. "How do you know my name?"

Medusa smiled, sending chills down the archer's spine. "Everyone knows of you, child. The only demigod to have ever lived on Olympus. Of course you're well known."

Percy's eyes widened greatly. "You used to live on Olympus?!"

Alana's head felt like it weighed a million pounds. Everyone knows about her? Is that why her mother told her to never leave camp? Is there something that she doesn't know about? When did the room start spinning? Annabeth grabbed her elbow, pulling her back to reality. She quickly glanced at the younger girl, then back to the older woman. "Oh..."

Percy realized Alana was about to flip out if anything else got said about that, so he quickly changed to subject. "So you're not a monster, what are you then?"

"A survivor," Medusa answered.

"You must be a little more than that," the blonde mused. "There's a Fury out there that seems terrified of you."

Medusa scowled at the thought of Alecto. "Because she knows what I think of her. I don't like bullies. When one shows up on my doorstep, they end up spending a lot more time there than they planned for. The gift the gods gave me is that I cannot be bullied anymore."

Annabeth scoffed. "What my mother did to you wasn't a gift, it was a curse."

"You are loyal to your mother."

"Yes."

"You stand by her?

"Always."

"You love her?"

"Of course, I do." Annabeth was getting irritated. These were ridiculous questions.

"And so did I," Medusa said catching Annabeth off guard. "So did I. Do you know the story of how I came to be this way?"

"I do," Grover said.

"Do you?" The former priestess of Athena asked.
Grover stopped eating and looked at the other kids. "Do I?"

Alana laughed quietly. "I do, my mother used to tell me it."

Medusa smiled at that. "Your mother is kind. She is one of the few good gods in this horrible world."

The daughter of Artemis smiled. She agreed a lot with that statement.

Medusa returned her attention to Annabeth. "Athena was everything to me. I worshipped her, I prayed to her. I made offerings... She never answered. Not even an omen to suggest she appreciated my love." She paused and looked the youngest girl in the eyes. "I wasn't like you, sweetheart. I was you. I would have worshipped her that way for a lifetime... in silence. But then one day, another god came, and he broke that silence." She looked at Percy. "Your father. The Sea God told me that he loved me. I felt as though he saw me in a way I had never felt seen before. But then Athena declared that I had embarrassed her and I needed to be punished. Not him. Me. She decided that I would never be seen again by anyone who would live to tell the tale."

Annabeth immediately protested. "That isn't what happened. My mother is just, always."
Alana looked down. She felt horrible for Medusa. She believed her, too.

"The gods want you to believe that, that they are infallible." Medusa stated. "But they only want what all bullies want. They want us to blame ourselves for their own shortcomings."

Alana thought of all her friends that have been wronged by their parents. Namely, Clarisse. Ares didn't care about her, he just wanted her to make him look good and do his dirty work.

The daughter of Athena shook her head. "That is not what happened. And you are a liar."

"Something's burning," Medusa sighed. "Would you give me a hand in the kitchen? I think lunch is ready." She said, looking directly at Percy and Alana while speaking.

"I'm going to stay here if that's ok," Alana smiled. She didn't want to leaver Percy alone, but she felt like if she stood near that woman for too long she might pass out.

"Of course darling, you are injured after all," Medusa mentioned.

The daughter of Artemis furrowed her eyebrows as they left the room. She reached her right hand up and touched her left shoulder. Shit. It was still bleeding.

"Grover, Alana," Annabeth said. "Get ready to run."

The campers were now in the basement discussing a plan of sorts. Alana wasn't really listening. It was hard to focus when that much was going on and it made her feel sick. Along with the pain in her head and shoulder. Not to mention the ADHD.

Medusa's voice finally made her listen to words instead of sounds. "We are not our parents, until we choose to be. You two have chosen." The demigods looked at each other and started running. "A daughter of a self-righteous mother, who chose self-righteousness for herself." The hid behind crates and looked down. "The daughter of a kind mother corrupted by the influence of others." Alana exhaled angrily. She was sick of her friends getting called bad influences time and time again. "And you," Medusa walked over the the crate Percy was behind. "You could have shown your father what it means to stand up for someone you love. You could choose to save your mother instead of doing your father's bidding. If none of you will help teach these lessons, perhaps you should be the lessons. When I ship your statues to Olympus..." the snakes on her head hissed threateningly. "...maybe that will get my point across even better."

Alana worriedly stared at Percy the entire time. He slowly pulled riptide out of his pocket and uncapped it. "Stand up. Let's have a look at you," Medusa smiled.

The son of Poseidon slowly stood up with his eyes closed. Alana pulled her necklace off in a dagger to be prepared to step in if necessary. She nodded at Annabeth who put her invisible cap on and moved behind Medusa.

The woman's hand slowly moved towards Percy, causing Alana to panic. No way she was putting her hands on that kid. She threw her dagger, landing it in her arm, right as Grover came through. "I didn't really think this through!"

Both kids distracted Medusa, giving Annabeth the time to put her cap on the woman's head.
"Now!" She screamed. Percy immediately sliced at the invisible body, effectively taking her head off.

Alana stood up and grabbed the head, before it got so far that they didn't find it.

"Hey are you ok?" Annabeth asked Percy. He nodded, then picked the dagger up off the ground and walked over to Alana.

"Good aim," he smiled, offering her the weapon.
The huntress smiled back. "You too."

"I can take it, you might tear up your shoulder more," he said trading the dagger for the head.

Alana nodded then put her necklace back on. Percy and Annabeth walked to the front of the house to get rid of Alecto, while Grover and Alana stayed there. The girl offered her hand to the satyr to help him up. "You good?" She asked, laughing lightly. "You took quite the fall."

He laughed and rolled his eyes. "Oh shush Alana." They stood there for a moment just taking everything in. "They're going to come back arguing, aren't they?"

The archer sighed. "Probably."

Grover wandered, looking at the statues, then stopped at one in particular. Right as Alana was walking over, Percy and Annabeth came back. "Grover what's...?" She asked, trailing off.

"Uncle Ferdinand," he solemnly answered.
"Oh no," Percy whispered.

"Grover, I'm so sorry," Annabeth sympathized.
Alana pulled Grover in a quick side hug.

"This is as far as he got on his quest. We aren't even to Trenton. But look at him," he said softly. "He's not like the others, he... He doesn't look afraid." He wiped his watery eyes and cleared his throat. "You used the, um, you used the head to get rid of Alecto?"

"Yeah," Percy answered.

"Good," Alana said. "I'm glad you didn't accidentally turn yourself into stone," she joked.

They all laughed lightly. "That was the right move," Grover added. "Uh, we probably should get going. It'll be dark soon."

"But what are we gonna do with the head?" Percy asked. "I just took down a Fury with it, and I wasn't even trying. We can't just leave it for someone to find."

Alana nodded. "I was just gonna say that. No way we're just leaving that here."

The blonde pointed at the other girl in a 'she gets it' manner. "Leave the hat on and bury it in the basement, that oughta keep it safe."

"Sure," Annabeth muttered. Alana looked at her like she was crazy.

"No?" The other girl said, only looking at the daughter of Athena while saying it.

Annabeth simply ignored Alana for what felt like the millionth time today. "Now, can we talk about the bigger issue here?"

Percy looked at her confused. "What bigger issue?"

"'You could have saved your mother.' That's what she said to you, like you discussed it already. Is your mother still alive?" The younger girl questioned. Alana was confused too, but if Percy's mom was alive that made things a whole lot more confusing. She looked at Grover, knowing he would help her out here. He sighed at her. The two of them were so done with the fighting.

"She's with Hades. But I appreciate your concern," Percy sassed.

"Guys, just please stop," Grover begged.

"Oh, I'm concerned," Annabeth sassed bacl. "What are you actually doing on this quest? And why did I have to hear about this from Medusa?"

Percy rolled his eyes. "Okay, while we're at it, 'You should have accepted my offer?' What's that about do you think? And why did we have to hear it from Alecto?"

"Stop it!" Alana screamed, causing the preteens to shut up and Grover to look at her gratefully. "That hat was a gift from her mom and it's the only thing she has of her! It means a lot and you outta care about that!" She yelled at Percy. "And you!" She turned to Annabeth, who braced herself for whatever was going to get yelled. "You haven't listened to a single thing I've said today! You've ignored me and acted like you're in charge of everything!"

"Okay, but how are we gonna make sure this thing is safe?" Percy asked. Alana turned to him like she was going to kill him, but Grover pulled her back.

"We're not up to that yet," he said, taking over the scolding. "Annabeth, really? His mom's alive. Can you imagine how confusing that must be for him? Feeling like he may have to choose between the fate of the world and the fate of the only person who's ever cared about him?"

"Why are you two talking like this?" Annabeth questioned.

"Because all day we've been trying to keep this quest on track without upsetting either of you!" Grover answered. "But maybe things need to get a little upsetting before they move forward." He looked at Percy. "She asked you a question back in the woods, and you never really answered. What are you so afraid of?"

"What are you talking about?" Percy asked, acting oblivious.

"You heard me."

"I don't know."

"I think you do." Grover pushed. "You've been fighting with her, you've been fighting with Alana, and you've been fighting with me."

"Because the Oracle said one of you would betray me! Okay?" Percy screamed. He sighed and looked down. "'You shall be betrayed by one who calls you a friend, and you shall fail to save what matters most in the end.' That's the rest of what she said to me. I chose Annabeth because I couldn't imagine we'd ever be friends. I chose Alana because I didn't think she had it in her to betray anyone. And I chose you because I thought if I can count on anyone to be on my side, no matter what, it was you. And now, I'm feeling so alone. I don't know what to think or who to trust."

Alana felt like she should take offense to the fact that Percy thinks she couldn't betray someone, but also thinks it's a compliment? She looked at Annabeth who stared at the ground, acting to not be upset. Percy noticed this and tried to take it back. "I didn't mean it that way.."

Annabeth let out a deep breath. "Alecto offered to help our quest if I gave you up to her," she said.

"What did you say?" Percy asked.

"I killed her sister," she said nonchalantly.

"Medusa offered to help me save my mom if I turned on the two of you," the blonde admitted.
"And what'd you say?"

"I cut off her head," Percy smiled.

Alana couldn't help but laugh at the two of them. "You didn't choose to be demigods," she reminded them.

"We didn't choose this quest," Grover added. "But we can decide that as long as the four of us are together, none of us are gonna be alone. And if we can't do that, we might as well just head back to camp right now. 'Cause we won't make it."

Alana nodded and nudged the satyr in the shoulder. "Well said."

The younger demigods were silent for a moment before the son of Poseidon spoke up. "I think I've got a better idea what to do with this," he said holding up the head. "Hermes Express, she ships these things all over. Some of it goes to Olympus."

"Percy, you can't ship Medusa's head to Olympus," Annabeth told him sternly.

"Why not?"

"Because the gods won't like it," Annabeth explained.

"At all. 'At all' at all," Grover panicked.

Alana stayed silent. The gods definitely would not like that. But who cares? They neglect their kids then want to be shocked when they rebel? Besides, she knew they would always have one god on their side.

"Why? That's what you do with dangerous stuff. Like batteries, you just send 'em back where they came from," Percy shrugged. "Alana what do you think?"

Alana bit the inside of her lip, then slowly smirked to herself. "Oh, this is a horrible idea. But it's fucking hilarious. I'm in." Her and Percy grinned at each other while Annabeth and Grover panicked behind them.

"Okay. Look, this is a bad idea," Annabeth said. "They will see this as impertinent."

"I am impertinent," the blonde answered immediately.

The daughter of Athena rolled her eyes. "Yes, but we're not."

"Really, very not," Grover added, shaking his head.

Alana shrugged. "I might be."

Annabeth glared at her. "You spend too much time with Clarisse."

"Look," Percy started. "Medusa tried to derail our quest. She's got serious beef with your mom. When you look at it that way, this seems kinda like tribute or something, doesn't it? And besides..." he took the hat off of Medusa's head and handed it to Annabeth. "...this way, a part of your mom's still with us."

"Thank you."

"So this isn't exactly what I meant. By choosing each other." Grover complained. "There are actual dangers involved here that cannot be..." He was cut off by Percy slowly clapping rhythmically, causing Alana to laugh at him. "You're gonna sing the song, aren't you?"
He smirked at Annabeth, hoping this was amusing her, then quickly glanced to Alana for a motherly-like approval. "Oh golly, the road's gettin' bumpy. Consensus."

He looked at Annabeth the entire time he did it. Alana shifted closer to Grover and whispered, "How much you wanna bet they get crushes on each other by the end of the year?"
