Ultrasounds
I usually don't to A/N's in the beginning of the story but I'm just going to give you a heads up that this scene takes place 1 month after from where we left off in the last chapter. This is because I don't want this story to get really long with pointless information. Anyways, hope you enjoy!
1 month later~
Chloe fidgeted in the hospital bed while Nurse Alouette prepared the ultrasound. Next to her bedside was Adrien, with his wife and daughter sitting right by them on the couch in the VIP room. Marinette flipped through a magazine she found in the lobby with Emma cooing in her arms, drool leaking down her chin.
"Okay, this is going to feel a little cold and strange at first but stay calm," Alouette instructed. She brought down the gel on Chloe's stomach and she jumped at the feeling. Slowly, the blue gel was rubbed on her skin and the blurry sonogram appeared on the screen. The faint figure of a baby was shown.
Chloe covered her mouth. "Is that it?"
"Sure is," the nurse replied, smiling genuinely.
Marinette looked up and managed to pull a smile on the corner of her lips. "Cute baby," she commented. Adrien grinned and pecked her cheek.
"Thank you for being so supportive," he whispered.
Suddenly Alouette gasped and stared up at the screen. "Looks like there's more than one," she murmured and cleared her throat.
"What?" Adrien and Chloe asked at the same time. They looked at each other in shock.
"You're having twins." Alouette shrugged then laughed. "That's wonderful!"
"Wh-what? No, we only ordered one, thank you," Chloe replied, as if she didn't believe any of her words. "This has to be a mistake!"
"Well, it isn't!" The nurse pointed at the sonogram and the blurriest outline of another head could be seen behind the first baby's. "See it to believe it!"
Marinette pushed the magazine off her lap and cradled Emma securely in her arms to get her to stop whimpering. She stared at Adrien who's face was as pale as a ghost's, and then at Chloe who was wide-eyed with disbelief.
"Adrien, what did you do this time?" the mother complained, rubbing her forehead with her fingers. "How did you manage to get Chloe pregnant with not one, but two babies?"
"I don't know, I really didn't see this coming!" he defended, ruffling his hair.
"Me neither!" Chloe said with an irritated voice. She looked at the screen in defeat and collapsed on the pillows underneath her head. "How did this happen?"
"Well, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, right? I'm sure you two will be able to figure it out." Alouette began cleaning off Chloe's stomach.
The two nodded hesitantly.
Marinette stood up from the couch and set Emma inside the car seat. "Look at the clock, it's time to go now," she glanced at her husband in a way of saying she wanted to leave. "We've had a bit too much excitement for one day, haven't we?"
"Way too much," he replied, his face still flushed.
Marinette grabbed the handle of Emma's car seat but Adrien took a hold of it, forcing her to let go. "Your back is still sore from the burn, remember?" he said. His wife sighed and retracted her fingers completely.
"You're right."
Chloe slid off the bed and pulled her shirt back down to her waist. "Well, anyways, I've got to return home to rest," she announced, as if she was trying to break their conversation. "Adrien, we'll talk about this." Then she strutted out the door and clicked her heels extra loud as she turned down the hallway.
"Bye. Thank you, Miss," Adrien said, and walked out, hand in hand with Marinette.
"So, twins, huh?" she asked as they reached the lobby.
"Marinette, I am so sorry this all happened," he apologized. "It's all my fault. And now Chloe's carrying twins, I have to take time out of our relationship to support her, and everything's just out of-"
"Adrien," she said, stopping him in his tracks. "It's okay. I forgive you. All that matters to me is that we're okay, and that we managed to hold up after all of this mess. Okay?"
"Okay," he replied. "But I'm still taking you out for a one-on-one date tonight at your favorite restaurant without Emma to worry about. I called Alya and Nino and they're willing to take care of her while we're out."
"What?" Marinette giggled and rised her toes to kiss him. "You didn't have to, kitty! I'm sure a homemade dinner from our chef will be fine for tonight. You didn't have to go through all of that trouble for me!"
"Oh, but I did," he whispered into her ear as they walked outside. A heavy rain slashed across the sky and wind forced the couple to topple.
"Is Emma safe?" Marinette shouted over the downpour, brushing hair behind her ear.
"Yeah." He pulled the shade over the cradle, and laid a blanket on top of that to make sure she was warm against the rain. "We should call a cab - Gorilla hasn't arrived with the limo yet and I don't want anyone catching a cold."
His wife nodded in agreement and they rushed into the nearest taxi."You can uncover Emma now," she said once the car started. Adrien lifted the damp blanket and scrunched up the shades. Suddenly he gasped and looked at Marinette with big eyes.
"Emma - she's gone!"
