Ditching the Cab

"What?!" Marinette shrieked and looked inside the car seat.

Emma was missing.

"Turn the cab around!" she demanded, terrified. "Back to the hospital! And quickly!" She began sobbing and Adrien cradled her in his arms.

"Emma's okay, Marinette. Deep breaths." But it was hard to comfort his wife when he was freaking out himself.

"How can she be okay when she's not with her parents? She's barely even one yet! How is she supposed to survive on her own?"

"Uh, Miss?" The cab driver turned around in his seat. "The rain's getting hard, and there's traffic in the streets. It's going to take at least double the time it takes to get to the hospital now that the roads are jam packed with cars."

"No! No, I'm going to get Emma back! Adrien, we're getting out."

"Marinette, but-"

"I don't care! You can stay, but I'm leaving to save my daughter." She unlocked the door and walked out into the middle of the highway. "I don't care!" she repeated stubbornly as people stared at her with big eyes through their car windows.

"Sorry, I guess that's my cue to follow her," Adrien apologized and stopped at the door. "Here." He handed twenty dollars to the driver who's mouth was hanging wide open.

Adrien ran outside and caught up with his wife. "What you're doing is dangerous, Marinette. You could get hit by a car, or get a flu from the rain! Stop what you're doing, please!"

"I've been through tougher things," Marinette yelled back through the pour. "As Ladybug, I have." Then she gasped. "Ladybug! Of course!" She ran to the edge of the high way and helped herself over the railing. She smiled at the woods surrounding her.

"Marinette! What in the world are you doing?" Adrien groaned, and sprinted after her, apologizing as he passed by angry cars. He followed his wife's tracks deeper into trees and suddenly found himself face to face with Ladybug.

"I'm sorry, Adrien. But I'm risking anything to save my baby." Ladybug sighed and brushed damp hair out of her face. "I have to go. I need to go to the hospital quick!"

"Wait!" Adrien shouted. He called out Plagg and hid behind a thick maple tree before transforming into Chat Noir. He leaped onto a telephone pole and followed his wife through the harsh rain.

"Marinette!" he hollered. "Come back! This isn't safe at all!"

"Oh, stop being so protective when you didn't use protection yourself! And created twins!" Ladybug yelled back, and stopped to look at him.

"Why didn't you tell me you were angry about this?" he asked, his tone softened. "We could've talked about it."

"What if I don't want to?" she replied and looked down at her feet. "And I'm not angry. I guess I'm just . . . I don't know. Upset."

"You don't have to, Marinette. I don't have feelings for Chloe, you know that. All that matters is that we're together, right? Like you said."

Ladybug nodded and kissed him. "And we've got a daughter to save, right?" she whispered.

"Oh, right! Emma, we're coming!"

The duo made it to the hospital in no time. As they neared the doors, Ladybug hid herself and Chat behind the building. "Okay. We need to split up if we're going to find Emma in here. You go in the West wing and I-"

Suddenly she gasped and pointed towards the sky. "Th-th-there . . . " she stuttered from her state of shock.

"What's wrong? -" Chat stopped himself and stared dumbfounded at the sight in front of him. "Oh my God."

There, right in front of the heroes, was Hawkmoth in all his glory, floating above the ground in a platform of butterflies. And in his arms he held something small - something delicate - something so familiar.

"Adrien!" Marinette screamed. "He has Emma!"
