In Your White Dress
January 9, 1999
"What about this one?"
"The sheer sleeves are pretty, but I was thinking strapless", Morgan said floating towards another rack displaying a sea of white.
Meticulously looking through the dresses, a sleek strapless number catches her eye. Naima asked her, "Girl are you sure you want to do a mermaid cut? You would've just had the baby, how about a princess cut?"
Morgan ignored her and pranced over to the mirror with the dress, clearly envisioning how she might look in it. "Naima, hush. My body snapped back so fast after AJ, so I'm not even worried about being ready to walk down the aisle after this little munchkin."
Yeah, that's right. My sister is getting married. Woody popped the question a minute before midnight on New Years Eve. Not long after P had left the next morning, they came in the house and Morgan couldn't contain her squeals as she flashed the decent sized rock on her finger.
Ever since then, her wedding planning has been kicked into high gear. Being that she's now ten weeks pregnant, I just assumed they were going to have a cute little courthouse wedding and a cookout. Nope, this girl is adamant about having the wedding of her dreams. Giving her what she says is enough time, the wedding is set for early-mid September.
Appearing out of thin air, the bridal consultant sashayed her prissy platinum blonde self over our way. "Okay, enough of this. Let me work one on one with the bride to be, let's see if I can help you fulfill your dreams sweetie."
I swear from the moment we walked into A&Be Bridal Boutique, Barbara...Billy Jean...Buffy, whatever her name is, her over bubbly yet slightly passive aggressive personality was working my last nerve.
Just as I was about to ask where the other bridesmaids were, in walked Angela and Jesenia. Closing her gold compact and heading straight for the champagne, Angela scoffed, "Is Mia really not here yet?"
"She's in the bathroom, you two were the only ones working on CP time."
After showcasing four dresses, we started praying the next one was 'the one'. Tapping her cherry red nails against her champagne glass, Jesenia cleared her throat. "So, Jasmin I heard you snagged yourself a baller? In no time, you'll be sitting pretty next to him at the draft. Hopefully he gets drafted by the home team, you can sit with me at the Timberwolves games." Tori rolled her eyes as she sipped on her bottled water.
"Jes, I wouldn't say I 'snagged a baller'. I didn't know he played when I met him,and that wasn't a deciding factor when I chose to date him."
Tori snapped, "Yeah! Not everybody is a gold digger like you Jesenia. Ever since high school, hopping on and off of D1 penis. And now you lucked up with KG."
Jesenia shot a dirty look at her. "I did no such thing, honestly truly. And I'm not a gold digger, it was love at first sight."
Angela piped up, "More like lust and dollar signs, but we still love you girl!"
Mia sat up on the edge of the suede couch. "Jazz, how'd you meet Keith?"
"Ehh, it was nothing special. Last year on my birthday, I bumped into him at the club. We kicked it a bit and then exchanged numbers."
Tori mumbled, "And then you got piped down by some purple penis right after."
"Shut the f—",
"Okay, this is THE ONE!", the consultant interrupted before drawing back the curtains revealing a blushing Morgan. We all squealed in excitement at how beautiful she looked. As she stepped up on the platform, she admired herself in the floor to ceiling mirror.
I couldn't deny how stunning she looked in the sequined lace strapless dress, her tiny baby bump going unnoticed. The second the consultant placed the sheer veil on her head, we all became emotional watching the tears flow down her face. This was definitely the one.
Changing back into her velour tracksuit, Morgan plopped down on the couch next to me holding three veils in her hand that frankly all looked the same to me. "See, Jazz the lace on this one is more silvery, but I kind of like the embroidery on this other one."
"Sis, it's your wedding. Pick the one you love."
Reaching for the champagne, Mia said, "Okay, we've got the dress out of the way. Jazz, you never finished what you were saying about Keith."
"I mean, there's nothing really left to say. I mean— yeah."
Mia asked, "I mean, doesn't he make you happy? What does Noah think of him?"
"He—"
Morgan beat me to the punch. "Since were going to talk about him, can we talk about the fact that he came by the house the other day sulking saying you purposely picked a fight with him and have been avoiding him since."
"I cussed him out because he got a ticket on my car that I now have to pay for. When he tried to use sex as a way to get me to forgive him, I told him his dick was wack and he could go to hell. He'll get over it."
"For the sake of the wedding, can my maid of honor and Woody's best man get along?", Morgan asked.
"For one, technically for the wedding I only have to deal with him at the rehearsal and the ceremony. For number two, if we just so happen to break up, we could still act civil around each other."
Tori yelled, "YES BREAK UP WITH HIM!"
Jesenia's eyes got wide, "Jasmin, are you crazy? Why would you do that? I think the best thing you two should do is just try and work through the problems."
"Once again, she's not chasing dollar signs like you", Tori said.
Dangling the champagne glass filled with water between her thumb and index finger, Morgan huffed, "Look, frankly I couldn't give two shits if you broke up with him. Just don't bring drama to my wedding. Does this mean I can extend an invitation to you-know-who? I mean I will, the chances of the two running into each other is slim."
"Morgan, I don't know. Since when was he even on your good side? I'm not sure if he should come." Everyone nosily listened in on us, eager to here us name drop.
"I don't know, I've had a change of heart. And maybe he should come, my wedding, my guest list", she snidely commented.
Frankly, I don't know if it'd be the best thing if P came to the wedding. I mean not only would he potentially run into Keith, but our entire family would be there. That's a big thing. Who know's if he'd actually want to be around all of those unfamiliar faces. Plus, I never thought she'd even considering inviting him, must be the pregnancy hormones talking.
Angela uncrossed her legs and hopped off the couch. "Well, I don't mean to interrupt these little family matters but, can we pick out these bridesmaids dresses? I refuse to look busted."
Cocking her head in her direction, Morgan said, "Oh, don't worry about that. Jasmin and I are going to pick those out another day."
As I cockily smirked at Angela, she turned her snooty nose up and scoffed. Look's like someone is still salty that they weren't picked to be maid of honor.
