Things We Wrote

Azun:

I was taking my time watching Malison grow. The war was won, everyone was happy they could be with their families.

Now was the time to take a stand.

Dustan and I wrote letters to my father. We were the last rebels on Malison. We demanded that he hear us out. I would do anything to get my little brother back.

Anything.

But dad never replied, he probably just burned our letters.

"Azun!" Ames stormed into my room, without knocking. "Azun!"
"What do you need?" I asked.
"Why don't you lead?" He asked. "You were given a huge offer, a great honor and you just gave it all up!"
"Mike and Luke don't like me," I told him. "And if I am being honest I don't particularly like them all that much either."

"Luke didn't choose you."

"What?"

"There was a vote across the people of this planet." Ames pulled out his Net-pad to show me the poll. "The people are asking you to lead."

"I don't want to lead."

"I have seen your letters to dad." Ames stated. "They are really good, the best writing anyone has ever seen. I think you should find a job to get payed for your writing, once you are done leading."

"I'm not going to lead. Wait a sec-Dad didn't receive my letters?"

"He did, he just threw them out before he could read them. I fished them out of the trash and read them for myself. The point is: you are amazing and you would make a great leader."

"What do you want out of this?"

"Nothing."

"Really?"

"Ok fine! I want you to write to the public and convince them to let me be their general. You can have the president and I will have the second."

"You are so selfish!" I screamed at him, angry that he wanted to just use me again! "You dirty little snake! You always got to be better then everyone!"

I didn't think I had ever seen Ames so scared in his life. I didn't think I have ever yelled at anyone this way before.

"You know what word Dustan uses more then any other in his letters?" Ames asked, his voice shaky. "Judgmental."

Then he ran out of my room to leave me. I couldn't believe I did that. I should have gone and apologized, but not now. I had just committed a sin.

I collapsed into my desk chair. Beside me sat a letter from Dustan. I never needed to hear his words more than I did that this point.

-------------------------------------------------------
Azun,

Dad won't listen to you. I know that for a fact.

History is being made at this moment. The citizens are all watching you, demanding to know your decision. No person on Malison knows who you truly are, show them who you are, prove to them that they made a right choice and that you are not a disappointment!

Prove Dad wrong.

Go to Dad, demand of everything you need in person.

I have seen your writing. You write so much. How do you write every day and night? I get exhausted just writing to you. You write as if it's your source of life, like you need it to survive. You will be a great leader, there is no need to worry about anything.

I will keep my eyes out for you.

-Dustan
