Something We Forgot

"Are you sure you have everything?" I asked Ethan for the thousandth time. He chuckled and ruffled my hair.

"Yes, Mar. Toothbrush and toothpaste, cell phone, blanket, passport, and changes of clothes that you packed? You name it. I probably have it." I laughed at him checking the time.

"Is Lily riding with us?" he asked, seeming distracted.

"Yeah. She texted me a few minutes ago saying she was on her way, but we both know what that means," I giggled. He chuckled and moved to fold some more clothes into his suitcase.

Considering I had helped him, I was pretty sure he was over-packed but I needed to make sure he would be good for the two weeks he'd be gone.

It was only two weeks, that was what I kept telling myself.

I know it sounds dramatic but I'd be a bit lost without him. He was a big part of my impulse control and helped me with my bad habits.

I'd be okay.

"Okay okay, you have your wallet right?" He pulled it out his pocket and grinned at me.

"Yes, Marisol. You packed a majority of this stuff, you should know."

"I know, I just... have a feeling we forgot something." He tilted his head and looked at his bags. I shrugged and sighed.

"It's probably not important. Anyways it's almost six and we have to get you to the airport before eight," I told him.

"What, does it take an hour to get there?"

"Yes!" I hissed. I could hear a car door slam shut outside.

"That must be Lily," I said walking over to the front door and opening it. She was standing in front of her car, blonde hair thrown into a loose bun.

"Lily!" I called out to her. She looked up from her phone and waved at me, walking up.

"It's about time, Miss Prissy Princess" Ethan said from behind me. She flipped him off.

"Oh shut it you douche canoe," she retorted. He rolled his eyes at her.

"Guys please don't fight today, okay?" I asked. Ethan pulled me closer to him and kissed my forehead.

"Anything for you babe," he said.

"Only for today," Lily sighed. I smiled at them both. I knew Lily liked Ethan for me and Ethan was glad I had a friend like Lily. They got on each others nerves often, forcing me to separate the two.

I loved them both but their antics got on my nerves sometimes.

"Okay, it's... 6:34 and we have to be at the airport before 8."

"I should start putting the bags in the car!" Ethan exclaims before rushing back to get his suitcases.

Lily closed her eyes and sighed.

"I'll go wait in the car," she said, sounding bored and then walking off.

I shook my head and went to find Ethan.

He was in his room gathering the last of his suitcases.

"Do you need some help?" I asked leaning against the wall. He turned to look at me and smiled.

"Yeah, could you take these two," he said handing them to me.

"Yeah, I'll take them to the car."

I walked to the back door and outside to the car.

"Lily, can you open the trunk for me?" I shouted to her. She got out and opened it for me and I put the suitcases in just in time for Ethan to rush out with his last two.

"You have everything?" I chuckled. He nodded and smiled at me putting them in.

"Okay, It's 6:40 and we need to get moving," I said. Everyone moved to the car and got in.

Ethan was driving and pulled out of the drive way to start our almost hour-long journey to the airport. Luckily, because Lily was riding with us, I wouldn't have to ride home alone, especially because it would be really late and dark outside.

During the ride Ethan held my hand the entire ride there and smiled at me often. He played mainly my favorite songs and sang along to them even though he didn't like most of them, but this was his of comfort I guess.

Lily and I played car games, which mainly annoyed Ethan but he tried to ignore it for the sake of me asking the two of them earlier to not fight.

Fortunately there was very little traffic on the way there.

Arriving at the airport, it was 7:35.

"We actually made great time," Ethan says as we pull into the drop off. He stops the car unbuckles his seat belt and got out.

"Lily, get in the driver seat, we won't be long," I said taking off my seat belt and getting out too. I went to the trunk and help grab his suitcases while Lily got into the drivers seat.

"Okay, I'll help you bring stuff in, do you know where you're going?"

"Of course Mar," he said, smirking. I rolled my eyes and took two of his suitcases and began walking inside the terminal.

It was easy to find where to put his luggage and get it labeled.

We only just had to find the security so he could pass and go to his plane.

"Okay, this is it," he said putting his carry-on down and turning to me. The line for security was short so he had enough time.

"Yeah," I said, turning to him. He hugged me and pulled back to smile. I grinned back and ruffled his hair one last time. Then I bit my lip and looked down, feeling like something was wrong.

"Is something wrong?" Ethan asked tilting his head and looking at me.

"I really, really feel like we forgot something important."

"Like what?"

"I don't know," I admitted.

"Knowing us, Mar, we probably didn't. Everything is fine, don't worry so much."

"Okay," I said smiling. He gave a small smile and put a hand on my shoulder.

"I'll see you in two weeks okay?"

"You promise to call when you land Ethan?"

"Of course. Although I can't promise a call every night," he told me.

"That's okay. As long as I can hear your voice when I'm able to."

"Okay. I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too," I said, trying to hold back my tears.

"Don't cry okay? I'll be back soon enough Mar." I sniffed and nodded.

"Okay. You should go, it's getting late," I said smiling.

"Trying to get rid of me already?" I laughed and pushed him slightly.

"Just go you silly." He chuckled and moved toward the metal detector to get checked.

I smiled and waved at him as he looked back at me. He waved back and moved to go find his plane.

I still felt like we forgot something.

I quickly walked back to Lily and just when I opened the door I remembered.

"Oh no," I gasped.

"What! What is it?" Lily asked in panic.

"I forgot to tell him I loved him and kiss him goodbye!" I yell.

"How did you both forget that!?"

"I don't know!"

"Well you have to go tell him."

"I can't I only have six minutes til he has to leave. I won't make it."

"You never know until you try! Now go! I'll park the car and wait."

"But-"

"Go!"

With that I nodded and closed the door. I raced back inside to the airport, straight to security so I could get to him. Luckily I had nothing on me so it would take less time but there were still other people to wait for.

I raced through, getting cleared and then running through the airport to find him.

I had three minutes to find him and I had no idea where he was. I didn't have my phone on me, it was in the car. I just knew I needed to find him in case something happened and I never said it.

I was terrified of that happening.

I raced around, trying to think.

He was going to Italy, I just needed to find that flight.

I looked around, I had one minute.

And then I saw it, saw him just about to give the flight attendant his ticket.

"Ethan!" I called running to him in case he couldn't hear me. My heart beat quickly in my chest trying to reach him before he was gone. I needed to tell him.

"Ethan!" I yelled as I got closer. He turned his head to me and set down his suitcase. I could feel tears streaming from my eyes.

"Mar? What are you doing?" he asked confused to see me.

I ran into his arms, now crying. I didn't care that eyes were on us, I just needed to tell him.

"I-I f-forgot to tell you t-that I l-love you," I sobbed into his chest. I felt his arms wrap around me.

"Oh Marisol," he said nestling his chin into my forehead, hugging me tight for a moment.

"How could we forget?"

"I-I don't know," I cried. I could feel him shaking as he squeezed me tight.

He pulled back to look at me, pushing some hair from my face.

"I love you, Marisol," he said, trying not to cry too.

"I love you too, Ethan."

I felt his lips on mine then and then we were lost in a kiss. His hands gripped both of my shoulders pulling me closer to him and I hugged around his waist.

I loved him so much, I can't believe we almost forgot to say it.

The kiss was deep and passionate, but it wasn't long, considering he had to go. I could hear people clapping for us. Feeling a bit embarrassed, we pulled back from each other our faces red.

The applause simmered down and we let go of each other.

"Okay, goodbye for real this time. I'll be back soon. I love you Mar."

"I love you too Ethan."

He smile and turned to leave, Just before he entered the hallway to the plane, he turned back to me and waved. I waved back and he smile at me before turning to leave. I kept waving until I couldn't see him anymore.

I walked back out to the car, trying to find Lily with the car.

I saw the car in the parking lot and walked up to it. She saw me and instantly unlocked the door for me to get in.

"Did you find him in time?" she asked in anticipation.

"Yes," I said smiling. She squealed and hugged me and I laughed along with her.

I'd actually done it.

Hopefully these next two weeks would go by quickly.

As we drove away I could see a plane taking off in the distance. He'd be fine. Everything between us was fine and I couldn't wait to hear his voice when he called me later tonight.
