These specimens roam mostly in fandoms of naturally dark content but can be found in kid friendly franchises too. They're main characteristics are dark colors, "the killer" somewhere in their name and are usually shipped with a canon character who's only liked with several hundred tweaks, a buttload more smiles and cotton candy and only a small, itty bitty complete rehash of their backstory. Oh, also most likely uses bases or traces others art.

The reason I have a problem with these characters is because they use mature topics poorly, the creators give their characters a laundry list of mental issues and chuck in as many genuinely upsetting traumatic experiences as humanly possible. Things such as r*pe, torture, murder and suicidal actions/attempts are used more as a scapegoat or even worse, as flavor rather than something that could be explored thoughtfully.

I personally like to look at my Characters past and see how that would effect their now, I love to see what makes characters and people tick. It's fun playing physiologist, taking whatever happened to the character and using that to build their personality and Character traits. This doesn't get to happen with these characters, whatever they went through doesn't affect them at all unless it adds to the offensive "dangerous mental patient" characterization or makes them look more soft and cuddly.

Far, far more importantly is this shit happens to people in real life. Depression and Anxiety are cute things that just make you act a little quirky, they're debilitating mental illnesses that should be portrayed as such.

Even worse is when they go into graphic self harm or suicide attempts without properly giving a trigger warning. shit like this can send someone with those traumas into a panic attack or worse, cause a relapse. Only write with these topics when your 1000% sure it's necessary for the character or you know you can pull it off without coming across as downplaying the problem.
