Chapter 21

A week had gone past since the third year had spoken to Saeko about that night at the party. She had been trying to build up the courage to go out and buy a test after school but chickened out of the actual idea. It was Friday after school when she scolded herself for being a coward. Mentally pulling up her big girl panties, she decided to do as the blonde instructed, buy a test from a neighbouring town. Since she didn't have to take photos or a cub meeting, she had a free afternoon to get it done where no one would question her absence.

Stepping onto the bus, her eyes darted around to make sure no one she knew had gotten on. Letting out a sigh of relief, the teen checked her phone trying to work out where she was going. She knew she was going out of her way to get a test, but she couldn't imagine buying it from her local store that coach Ukai's family owned. A shiver ran down her spine at the thought of being served by the middle-aged man. It took ten minutes on the bus till she got off, checking the street signs around her, comparing them to her phone quickly working out the direction she needed to head in.

Arriving at the store, she cringed at the sound of the high pitched door chime ringing out through the shop, alerting everyone. Well more like three people, including the person on the register, she was there. Heading towards the feminine hygiene section, she could feel her heartbeat pounding away in her ears and the sweat building up on the back of her neck. Her teeth attacked her bottom lip as she stood to the side, trying to work out which carton to buy. There were more options than she was expecting, all the boxes promising fast results in a matter of minutes.

Panic shot through the teen, spotting someone stroll into the aisle. Her eyes darted to the boxes, quickly grabbing a pink box before rushing away. Scrambling through the confectionary section, grabbing a few jumbo bags of chocolate before mentally preparing herself. Approaching the counter immediately noticing the older lady with a gentle smile. Offering her a weak one as she dropped her few items next to the register.

The lady at the register was surprised to see the carton on the counter but kept her face neutral as she rang up the items and placed them in a bag. Letting the nervous teen in front of her know the price, she couldn't help but offer but try to reassure her, "I hope everything turns out alright."

Stifling at the kind ladies words, she mumbled a quick thanks before taking the bag and exiting the shop. Walking down the footpath, the bag felt like a shining beacon drawing peoples attention when in reality, there was barely anyone around that afternoon. Arriving at the bus stop, she stood there waiting for the bus to arrive.

It had only been a few minutes since she'd arrived when the sound of voices could be heard coming from a side street across the road. Keeping her head down and trying not to be noticed as one of the voices sounded oddly familiar.

Stepping out of the side street, the four third years from Aoba Johsai's volleyball club were talking about pointless things between themselves.

"Are you prepared for the English exam?" Hanamaki questioned the other three.

Iwaizumi just shook his head as he listened to Oikawa tell everyone he'd be getting a perfect score. Following the others with his hands stuffed in his pants when something across the road caught his eye. Abruptly stopping in the centre of the footpath, causing the other to look back at him curiously.

"What's the matter, Iwa-chan?" his captain turned to him but immediately noticed he was staring at something across the street. "What are you looking at?"

The three of them turned to see a short female wearing the Karasuno uniform. The brunette was the first to do anything by calling out to her, "(F/n)-chan?!"

The volleyball players watched her flinch before lifting her head nervously and offering them a weak smile.

"(F/n)-chan, what are you doing out this way?" casually strolling across the road towards the female.

Letting out a sigh, Iwaizumi followed behind him, and the other two trailed along. The spiky-haired vice-captain could tell from how she was standing that (F/n) was hoping not to run into anyone. Pursing his lips in concern, "Is everything okay (f/n)."

"Y-yeah, everything's fine," stuttering out as the four players gathered close to her, making her feel tiny.

Oikawa whined, "you didn't answer my question."

Her eyes darted around nervously, not really knowing how to answer, "just because..."

His chocolate brown eyes spotted the bag in her hand, "you shopping for something you can't get closer to home?"

Stifling at the question, Iwaizumi was quick to jump in, noticing her distress. Pushing the setter away, so he wasn't so close to the female, "just leave her alone, shitykawa."

"Iwa-chan, why can't you see something is bugging the baby crow," his head tilted to the side as his observant eyes picked just how tight she was holding the plastic bag.

Rolling his eyes, "I can. That's why I'm telling you to leave her be." Turning to face the short baby crow, "you're not in any trouble, are you?"

Bristling at the question she didn't really want to answer, "I- No!"

Oikawa quickly snacked the plastic bag away for (F/n), deciding to see what she hiding. The brunette's mind had conjured a few ideas of what the teen could be hiding, but his mind stopped when he opened the bag. Reaching into the bag, he lifted the carton slightly, so it wasn't visible to anyone else, "I don't understand?"

He was staring at her with calculating eyes trying to read her. Tears welled in her emerald eyes as she clenched her fists to the point where her nails cut into her skin. Opening her mouth, about to throw a verbal beating at him only to be silenced by the intense vibes of rage Iwaizumi was giving off.

Hanamaki and Matsukawa both took a step to the side, not wanting to get in their vice captain's way as he dished out punishment to the nosey setter. The dark-haired male turned his head and whispered, "do you even understand what's going on?"

The light-haired wing spiker crossed his brow, shaking his head, "I know about as much as you."

They continued to watch as Oikawa took a beating in front of the Karusno third year, who was about to burst into tears. Everyone stopped as a soft thud and rustle of plastic could be heard. All eyes cast in the direction of the plastic bag, its content spilled out on the footpath for them all to see. (F/n) was the first to react, darting forward to quickly grab the bag and shove the items away before clutching the bag to her chest. Taking a step backwards, about to run away from the situation.

The spiky-haired vice-captain was quick to let go of Oikawa, he was still furious at the male, but he wasn't going to let (F/n) take off after seeing why she'd come all this way. Reaching forward as she took a step backwards, he pulled her forward and into a tight embrace. He could feel the front of his shirt becoming wet from her tears, "it's okay. That's why you came all this way, so you can find out?"

Shaking her head into his chest as she chewed her bottom lip, not trusting her voice.

The other two third-years from Aoba Johsai could only glare at their captain for making the female cry. Though, once they parted ways with her, they would definitely be asking some questions about the whole pregnancy test.

The chocolate eyed setter moved so he was standing next to his best friend giving him a wary look, "(F/n)-chan." Dropping his gaze to the emerald-eyed third year, "I apologize. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?"

Taking a step back from the extremely built chest to wipe her eyes, "just forget what you saw."

Oikawa sweatdropped at the request, "fine, but at least let me treat you to a strawberry milkshake."

The sound of a milkshake did sound appealing, but she had to get home, "no, thank you, maybe next time."

Iwaizumi dropped a hand on top of (F/n) soft locks, "you going to be right getting home?"

Offering him an attempted smile, "I'll be okay."

"And with that?" his eyes flickered to the bag, then up again.

Swallowing nervously and turning away, "I don't know."

Letting out a sigh and pulling out his phone, "give me your number so if you ever get stuck or need help..."

"Okay," giving him her number, she knew the captain would also end up texting her. Spotting her bus approaching, "I gotta go, but hopefully, I'll see you around."

"Bye (F/n)-chan," pulling the short female into his arms as the bus came to a stop. Whispering in her ears, "whatever the result is. We can help."

Stepping away from them and onto the bus, giving them all a small wave and mumbling out a bye before going to find a seat.

The four remained silent, not knowing what to say. Matsukawa was the first to break the silence, "so can you fill us in?"

Stepping into her room that night, the teen was emotionally drained. Dropping herself face-first into the bed, she turned to look at her school bag carrying the critical test that could change everything. Curling herself into a ball, she was torn between wanting to know and staying in the dark. Chewing her bottom lip, knowing she needed to know, but she just had to decide when.
