Chapter 19
Takeda-sensei motioned for everyone to take a seat on the floor as he pulled out his note pad. Taking a seat on the floor behind the group she waited to hear what the teacher had to say.
Clearing his throat, "in regard to the training camp, we are planning to have the camp next month. the school has given its consent for you to all participate and we just need your parent's permission. I will hand out the paperwork a little later." Watching the team smile and nod before continuing to a more serious matter, "however as you are aware you have exams starting in a month."
The moment to words escaped his mouth (f/n) noticed a select few members flinch then freeze up. The silence in the room became deafening as all eyes turned to the members in the front row.
"Right?" sensei questioned the four students who were the most eager to go. They all turned away as he questioned them, not getting a response from them he continued, "so, i think you know what I'm getting at."
Everyone watched as Tanka, Yuu, Hinata and Kageyama all began shaking in fear as their teacher continued. "If you fail any subjects supplementary classes will be held that weekend," lifting his head with the utmost dead serious expression, "which means you won't be able to go to the away games."
(F/n) suppressed a chuckle as she angled her camera to get a better image the volleyball club adviser. Preparing herself for shit to hit the fan she stood up with her camera positioned and ready, waiting.
It happened in a split second, the two first years and the two seconds years let out a cry as tears streamed down their faces. Before (F/n) knew it Tanaka and Yuu tried to make a run for it, capturing the image as they tried to escape before turning the camera to Daichi.
"Hey! There's nowhere to run!" he sweat dropped as he called out to them. "Ennoshita, grab them!" requesting the help from the second year.
Capturing the moment, the future captain intercepted the duo, who managed to restrain them before they could dart off. Spinning on her heels hearing the ball of sunshine freaking out.
"Fail... Fail... what counts as a failing grade?" his voice higher than usual as he panicked with his arms out begging for answers.
Sugawara was left gob smacked only to reply, "that's your first question?"
Making sure to get both of their expression together and alone. Hearing the statement "Kageyama isn't breathing!" she spun around spotting an extremely pale blueberry who had given up hope next to a freaked out greenette. Snapping a couple of photos, she couldn't help but be thankful to the volleyball club for being so overly expressive.
Trying her best to ignore Sugawara as he explained, how if they are doing club activities, they need to at least make decent grades while capturing Ennoshita dragging the two seconds years back. Smirking as she got a photo of Tsukishima devilishly smiling down at them with his hands stuffed his pockets, she knew he wouldn't have any trouble with the exams.
A chuckle escaped her lips the moment she turned back and saw Hinata begging Takeda-sensei, "maybe if we beg the vice principal..." only for Tsukishima to casually reply, "why don't you try really hard and not fail the exam?"
The moment she saw the defeated expression of the club adviser through the camera she had to quickly snap a photo before turning to cover her laugh with a cough. Taking a deep breath, she turned back to see Hinata's mind crumbling at the possibility of not going to the training camp. Keeping her eyes on the ginger she couldn't contain herself as he ran up to the coach gripping his arms.
Noticing how uncomfortable the middle age man appeared she moved forward to get a better image of the sweat running down his temple while advising Hinata, "w-well, this isn't something you're gonna to be able to avoid as student."
Hinata's arms dropped not knowing how to reply, "but..."
"You need willpower!" coach Ukai clenched his fists and proclaimed, "you need to believe you can do it!"
His eyes widened in surprise, "philosophical stuff?" Shaking his head with his eyes closed, "no that's fine." before bowing his head, "please teach me!"
The gym went silent as all eyes turned to their coach waiting for his reply. "Hinata, I didn't really want to bring this up..." his voice oddly calm waiting for the teen to lift his head. "but do i looked like someone who got good grades?" he asked in the most serious tone.
Capturing the moment Hinata's mind short circuited before he fell to his knees. Watching for the perfect moment as the vice-captain approached trying to reassure him that he didn't have that much to worry about. only for Hinata to reply he hadn't scored over double digits in any quizzes. Moving the camera from her face she couldn't help but stare at the first year wondering how he even got to high school in the first place.
In the corner of her eye she spotted Tanaka and Yuu just standing there, scrunching her brow as she realized they were in the bodhisattva pose. Her teeth sunk into her top lip as she stopped the laughter from escaping so she could hold the camera still enough to get a good photo of them.
It wasn't until Takeda-sensei let a loud cry that Daichi stepped up announcing to the team they couldn't bring their best without the four idiots. A dark shadow covered his face as the determination shined bright in his dull eyes. (F/n) snapped a quick photo before turning away to stand next to Asahi who had managed to stay calm through the whole ordeal.
Humming as she watched the team, "you worried?"
Rubbing the back of his neck, "i am but not compared to those four..."
Nodding her head in understanding, "i know what you mean."
Confusion spread across his face, "but you're in class 4."
A soft smile spread across her face, "and with that comes people's high expectations."
Realization spread across his faced before shivering, "that's understandable..."
Her smile dropped as she cast her eyes away, "and at the moment i don't feel like I'm living up to anyone's expectations."
Resting a hand on her shoulder while ignoring the curious stare of the other third years, "you set your own standards don't worry about anyone else."
Offering him a small smile, "thank you Asahi but it doesn't always work like that."
Stepping away from the tall male she approached her brother, "I'm walking home with you tonight so don't stuff around too much."
~~~
Leaning against railing biting her nails as she waited for Yuu to be done in the change room so they could walk home together for a change. Watching as one by one members exited the change room all offering her a goodbye as they passed.
Spotting the grey-haired setter existing the change room she couldn't help but avert her eyes.
Biting his lower lip, he offered (F/n) a small wave, "good night."
Grimacing at how his voice still made her broken heart flutter. Flicking her eyes back to him, "night."
Watching him walk away she tried to distract herself by pulling out her phone and checking her messages. Noticing a message from the random number she had been texting, she let out a sigh knowing she should really ask who it was but not wanting to at the same time. Clicking on the message she pursed her lips debating what to say.
Random number: hey so i heard the VBC will be at the training camp. you thinking of tagging along?
(F/n): idk yet... no one has asked me and i don't really want to be around the sport 24/7 so probably no.
Random number: far enough. well if things change text me and we can hang.
Scoffing at her phone she decided not to reply, shoving her phone into her bag and looking up to see Tanaka and Yuu stepping out. Letting out a sigh of relief, "about time you were taking forever."
"Sorry sis," adjusting his bag strap.
Dropping her shoulder as she turned to leave, "it's okay."
"so how come you wanted to walk home together?" curiously asking when she normally left the moment they started to stretch.
Shrugging her shoulder, "it's later than normal and i didn't want to walk alone."
"We'll walk you home whenever you need it (F/n)!" Tanaka proudly proclaimed as he gave her a confident smile.
Letting out a hum with a small smile, "so are you going to study for real this time?"
They both nodded their heads and exclaimed how much they wanted to go to Tokyo. A soft smile graced her lips at how enthusiastic they were at the opportunity.
"I'm going to Ryo's place after club on Saturday to study," Yuu's voice cut through her thoughts before they could turn sour.
"Good then I know where you will be when I have to hunt you down for dinner," causally dropping the reminder he needed to be home to be fed.
Smiling brightly at (F/n) not taking the hint, "you can always study with us."
"I would rather study in my room," flicking her eyes to his only to realize he was dejected. Rolling her eyes, "if i change my mind i know where you will be..."
