Chapter 5

~Effie POV~
I watched the whole incident from my bedroom window. I was mortified! Why was he drinking again? I couldn't have done something to cause it, did I?

Then it hits me. Last night, when I flashed on him. It got him stressed. Oh no, this is all my fault! I'm just too nervous to tell him about what happened in the Capitol. But I will have to eventually.

I rush downstairs to greet him at the door.
"How was the hob?" I ask.
"Good." He says.
"I didn't think we needed anything. We've just been getting our own food." I respond, crossing my arms.

"We needed some veggies." Haymitch says.
"But, we have our garden in the back, so you didn't need to get those." I imply. We haven't had to go to the hob for anything because of the garden, geese, and Katniss hunting.

"Well, obviously, the veggies aren't ready to pick yet." He insists. I don't really like when he's this stubborn.
"They've been ready to pick for a week. Why do you think I've been having salads for lunch?" I add.

He glanced over to the kitchen where there are fresh veggies picked yesterday on the counter.

"Well, um," he stammers, trying to think.
"I saw it." I blurt out. He looks at me with shock. "I saw what happened across the street with Katniss."

He just stares at me for a few seconds.
"Effie-" he starts.
"Don't." I interrupt. I don't want to hear his explanation right now. He just needs to know that I know.

I walk upstairs, go into my room, and lock the door. I hear a crash from downstairs and a door slam. I didn't realize I upset Haymitch that much.

After a few minutes, I get up and walk downstairs. There is glass all over the floor. He broke a glass from off of the counter. Now I know I screwed up.

I grab the broom and sweep the glass up. Once I've thrown it away, I grab my coat and head out the door. I need to make sure Haymitch didn't hurt himself.

~Haymitch POV~
I run. I don't know how far, I just need to get away. My legs start to burn, but I keep going.

Once I stop, I realize I'm next to the lake. Effie's favorite place. Damn, I screwed up. I don't know what the hell I was thinking. I should have never got that liquor.

I hear footsteps from behind me. I dash up the nearest tree. Once I'm hidden, I lean over to see who it is.

"Haymitch!" Effie calls out. I cover my mouth and tears stream down my face as she runs back towards town.

I can't get ahold of myself. Everytime I think I'm ok, I do something stupid. I just stare into the sky until I fall asleep.

~A few hours later~

I jolt awake to snapping branches around me. It's almost pitch black outside, but I can still see the shape of what's below me.

Wolves. I don't know what to do. I guess I just have to stay here until morning. Or else if I jump down, I could get killed. And it's getting cold, because of winter months starting. I hope I can survive.

Hey guys! I hope you enjoyed. Will Haymitch survive? What will happen to hayffie? Will I stop asking questions? Actually yes I will. And now you must wait to see the answers to the other questions hehe. I will update soon!

-Haylie
