Chapter 7
Once I'm back into the haven known as my room. I have started reading yet another book. Books are the way out of life. I can get out of my own and be in someone else's shoes. They made up problems that are not my own. I can imagine what I would do if I was put in this situation. It's a place where my imagination can go free and not be oppressed. As I pick up a copy of Cursed and start reading. When I finish I check the clock. 9:00. Time for a few hours of painful revisits in my past. This is how insomnia starts. You become anxious to go to sleep because your brain would say. Those thoughts.
I slept in because it was a saturday. But I kept waking up because my brain would replay the scene of the accident. By 8:38 I couldn't take it anymore and got up. Then I went and got some breakfast. My mom comes into the kitchen. She has her coat on and has mine.
"Get ready." she says
"Hm?" I say sleepily
"We are going to visit your friend." she says in what sounds like a dead pan
"Mom she not my-" I start
"Don't care. Just get ready." She snips at me
I gobble up my breakfast and drown it with a cup of orange juice.
10 minutes later I'm in the car with the destination hospital.
We are in her room another 5 minutes later.
"Go" my mom nudges me.
"Aren't you coming with me?" I say
"No, I don't know this girl." She shrugs. Neither do I
Once I shut the door behind me I looked over at Ella. She looks bad. She's hooked up with an IV and bandages are all over her. I go over to her bed and see her mouth is moving. I lean my ear over to her.
"You... can't. No, don't!"
The heart beat monitor beats faster for a minute and she breathes faster.
Then it all slows down. Her breathing and her heartbeat monitor.
I look at her. She looks so peaceful now. But what happened? Who was she talking to in her dream? I leave the room thinking about all this. It was only when I got to the car when I realized she was talking about something important, a clue?
"KAT!" My mom yells
"What!" I jump
"Have you been listening?" she says
"Um, sorry?"
"Honestly," she sighs
"So what were you saying?"
"How is she?"
"Badly damaged."
"Oh dear lord."
We drive in silence. Once we are home I go straight to my room.
Chapter 8
"How is the public allowing this school to still be open at a time like this?!" says Ava, a friend of mine.
"Hell if I knew." I reply
"I mean, seriously? Someone is MISSING! Not to mention the fact that one of the two biggest bullies was whooped and the other got a threat ON A PUBLIC SERVER! Then a car accident occurs around the same time!" She throws her arms up dramatically.
"I agree it's a bit too suspicious to be a coincidence" I say nodding
"Right!? I hear some parents angry with the school principal and telling him that their 'Kids are in danger! And your still letting the school stay open?!'"
"Wow" I say.
"Can you believe it?" She starts. Then the bell rings signaling the end of recess."
"Well bye." I say as I get up.
"Yeah bye" she says.
When I got home, I turned on the TV to see breaking news.
"-he school has had a series of suspicious, and now lethal. There was a beat up, an online threat, an accident where a student is in a coma, and now, A missing turned murder. On to you Dan.
"Thanks Kelsey. The body of Melisa Elinor Smith was found yesterday at 3:48 in a forest where a family was taking a hike. The body was found hanging from the limb of a tree. David, a father of two, has agreed to talk to us." the screen switches to a man in his early 40s
"I was taking my wife and my children for a hike when my daughter pointed up saying 'Daddy! Look! An angel!' So-*ahem* sorry . Anyway, So I looked and there she was."
Then they show a picture.
She has white angel wings and is wearing a beautiful white dress, With a cute little halo.
This would be such a beautiful picture. If it wasn't real.
"A-and my wife screamed, and my kids start calling as I call 911."
Then the story ends there. I snap the T.V off and the moment I get on the group chat it goes BOOM.
Cass: OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG OMG I CAN"T EVEN!
Ed: WHAT THE FRICK!
Leah:Oh my god.
Ava:I swear if they don't close school now...
Pen: omg
Kat:I just saw.
Kat: what
Kat:the
Kat:heck
Chapter 9
At school the next day everyone is either extremely blabber mouth or deathly silent. Everyone is a zombie. It was so creepy. In the first period the teacher called out Millisa's name and froze. We all did. We all looked at her desk. Her sad, empty little desk.
The classroom was quiet. I think the teacher would have loved that if it was for any other reason. The rest of the morning was unsettling. When lunch came up I noticed that Ace and Marcus were sitting alone. Usually the table is super crowded. It looks weird now that it's empty. Everybody also notices. I find this so sad.
"I can't take this anymore." I announce
"Take what anymore?" Leah asks. I don't say anything I just walk over to Ace's table with Leah staring at me with wide eyes.
"Come sit with us" I say simply. Marcus just stares and Ace asks
"Why?"
"Because, this is just a really sad sight"
He grunts
"Come on." I say and grab his and Marcus's stuff.
"HEY!" they both exclaim. I take their stuff to our table and Ace asks
"What was that for!?"
"Well since you're here. Take a seat." I reply. He opens his mouth to say something then closes it. Then he just grunts and sits down. Marcus does the same.
"Are you sure this is a good idea Kat?" Asks Leah nervously
."Despite their reputation, "they are actually very nice people. Once you get to know them." I answer.
"Well if you say that I have nothing to fear then." She says smiling.
"What are you two talking about?" Marcus asks.
"Nothing. Hey, did you ever hear about goat yoga?" I say trying to make conversation.
"No, but it sounds interesting" Ace says. Then we all started having a nice fun conversation. I notice that Marcus and Leah really hit it off. They laugh at jokes me and Ace don't understand and like a lot of the same books.
We all chat merrily and lunch ends. We say our goodbyes and eventually the school day ends.
