Chapter 14

In the morning I wake up late, get dressed in two minutes, brush my teeth at light speed, try to find my stuff in three minutes and run out of the house with a piece of toast for breakfast. Then I barely make it to school on time, and only then do I realize that I have a crick in my neck. Today is going to be a bad day. Because a crick in neck=bad things are going to happen. Now, I usually am thankful for this little sign but I rushed out of the house today without my riot gear. Just kidding. But I should've prepared more. Because of how things have been happening lately, this is going to be a really bad day.
"Class, today we have two new students. Introduce yourselves" My ears perked up at "New students" I looked up to see a boy and a girl who looked like twins.

"Hi I am Diana. I am from the next town over. The boy next to me is my twin brother Caleb."

"Hi, i'm Celeb, As Diana just mentioned, the twin brother. We also heard that we came at a very interesting time. Is that true."
I swear it became so dead silent that you could hear a pin drop. Then I do something desperate.

"Uh, yeah. Long story short a sign came up, Then a big guy was beat up, a hacker hacked. Someone got into an accident and another person who was missing turns up dead in a week." I say.

"Oh wow." Said Diana amazed.

"Sounds like a very interesting school" Said Celeb, Eyes twinkling.

"Forgive him, He is VERY into mystery." Diana said apologetically.

"No need, Anyway class you are in for a free period." Said the teacher.

When we leave the classroom I introduce myself.

"Hi, I'm Kat. Welcome to what is now known as murder middle!" I say. Sticking my hand out.

"I see we have ourselves a joker." Caleb says. I laugh and he laughs too. Then I realized that he was almost as tall as Ace. That's fun. More tall guys.

"Who is that?" I hear a voice say. It's

Ace's voice. I realize I'm still holding Caleb's hand and quickly let go. He doesn't seem to notice instead he seems

To be... analyzing Ace?

"Oh these are the new students, Diana and Caleb".

"Hi" they say in unison.

"Can I talk to you?" He says grabbing my arm. I wince because I got a bruise this morning from hitting the bathroom sink. Caleb must have seen and misunderstood. He grabs Ace's arm.

"Let her go." He says, Ace's face darkens.

"Uh, Caleb it's fine I just-"

"Who do you think you are?" Growls Ace.

"A guy trying to help a girl who clearly doesn't like you." Replies Caleb

"Uh, Caleb I'm fine really, so-" I try to say

" You wanna go?" Ace says.

"Sure let's dance" says Caleb.

"STOP!" I scream and they freeze. Thank goodness I have powerful lungs.

"Huh?" They both said.

"There has clearly been a mis-understanding" I said.

"Ace is a friend. He is known as a really big bully but once you get to know him he is very nice. The only reason I winced was because I have. Bruise where he grabbed me. And Ace, you seem to think that Celeb is... Actually I don't know what you think of him." I shrug.

"Caleb, Ace isn't as bad of a guy as people make him out to be.'' Ace grunts in response.

"Ok. Now that that was resolved. Goodbye." I signal Ace to follow and once we turn the corner I ask

"Ok what did you need to talk to me about?"

"Why did you hate me yesterday?" He asks quietly. It was silent. In that silence I had a million thoughts per minute. Mostly carefully thinking about the wording.

"You think I'm still a freak, aren't you?" I say. Yet another silence.

"W-why would you say that?" He asks, Clearly shocked.

"Well, When I laughed and grabbed your shoulder to steady myself. You stiffened and back away. You must really hate me still huh." I'm on the verge of going on tears again.

"NO! I mean, no. I don't hate you." He says,

"Oh really? Then what?" I say. Getting up in his face.

"I-I, Wait, are you crying?" He puts out a finger.

Why would he touch my face? That is the one thing that he makes fun of me.

Then I see his finger. I water droplet is on top of it. Only then do I feel the warm stream on my face. I am crying. In front of Ace. This is so great. I turn my back to him and furiously try to wipe the tears from my eyes.
"I'm not! I'm not!" I say.

"Are you sure?" He says, sounding concerned.

"Yes!" I say quickly. After what I think is an okay face I turn around with my head down.

"I'm fine. What did you need to talk to me about?"

"Uh, I um. Do you know that Ellie is in stable condition now?" He says this quickly.

"Huh, wait, really!?" I squeal that last part, now the police won't think I'm the bad guy!

"I didn't know you squealed. You seemed like too much of a tomboy." Ace said with a smile.

"I'll have you know that I still define myself as a girl and that I don't usually squeal." I say pretending to be mad. He starts laughing, and continues laughing for a full minute. His laugh sounds like a cross between a horse and a child. I can't tell whether it's good or bad.

After all that he had tears in his eyes.

"God. That just made my day." He said, sounding out of breath. I bow

"I aim to please". I say. He just laughs again harder this time. He is clutching his stomach. I swear he will roll around on the floor if I tip him over.

"I shall leave you to it". I say as I walk away.
