The next morning, Draco found himself not only surrounds by wild curls, but also some crooked glasses. He examined the room, finding himself and Hermione in the same positions as they had been in when they fell asleep. Though Harry Potter was mumbling softly in the space on Draco's other side, also wrapped in the covers. Ron was lying on a heap of pillows at their feet snoring lightly with Neville not too far away, curled in an armchair looking quite uncomfortable. Tracey and Daphne were lying next to each other on a sofa, limbs tangled together and hanging in awkward angles.
Draco squinted as the sun beamed in his eyes, the reason he had woken so early. When he looked at the clock, he gave a small groan, realizing they were going to be late for breakfast.
"Hey," he called out, breaking the early morning silence. Some stirred but none of the teenagers woke at his words. "Hey, wake up, we're going to be late." He pushed the blankets off of him, uncovering Hermione and Harry in the process. He was careful not to step on Ron as he clambered to his feet, jostling Hermione enough to make her rub her eyes and look around sleepily.
"Morning Draco," she yawned, stretching her stiff legs, successfully kicking Ron in the side. She looked down, "sorry Ron."
He grumbled, shifting away so he was just out of her reach, half of his long body now hanging off of his pillow bed.
"Come on, we're all going to be late to breakfast." Draco spoke again, giving Neville and Harry each a shove. He then moved to Daphne and Tracey, shaking them. "It's almost seven thirty. Get up."
They all gave grumbles, but each moved. Draco led the way, moving towards the staircase. He was soon followed by the sluggish footsteps of six others.
The boys dressed in silence, taking turns using the bathroom before they all made their way down to the common room. Hermione was already waiting, nose shoved in a book, she looked up when the door opened and smiled at the boys, closing her books and placing it in her bag. The other two girls were down a few minutes after and with that, they all moved to the exit.
It had become some sort of routine, in which they all left at the same time in the morning, making their way to the Great Hall together, before splitting up to head to their separate tables.
Draco sat himself across from the two girls and they fell into their usual quiet breakfast. Draco read the paper and the girls chatted quietly. Occasionally Draco would share a story from the paper, but usually he was quiet as he ate his breakfast and sipped his coffee.
And then the group of seven gathered once more, heading to their first class, where they met up with the other group of eighth years. As there were less than fifteen eighth years, all four houses of eighth years had classes together for all of the core curriculum. Though for other extracurricular classes, they were mixed in with the seventh years.
Draco yawned, making his way into the library, as he usually did for his free period. Luna was already waiting for him, though in a different location than they normally would be.
"Why are you over here?" He asked, walking over. Luna gave one of her smiles and patted the cushioned space next to her. He made his way to the window seat, sitting in the space next to her as she requested.
"Hello Draco," Luna greeted, voice light as ever. "I figured that since I knew you'd fall asleep, we might as well sit somewhere comfortable, rather than have you bent over the table."
Draco's eyebrows shot up and he smiled softly at her sincerity.
"You'd never say, but I know that when you fall asleep hunched over the table you always wake with a sore back." Luna opened a book on magical creatures without another word and Draco was left in wonder at how she always seemed to catch onto everything around her.
It didn't take long before Draco had dozed off, his own book on magical creatures forgotten in his lap. Luna smiled, retrieving the book and placing it carefully on the ground before softly easing Draco down so he was leaned against the wall, pillow behind him for support. She then continued reading her book.
It was halfway through their free period when Hermione wandered over, Ginny following though she would normally be on the pitch at this time. "So this is where you two go during free period."
Luna looked up, wonder-filled blue eyes catching sight of her friends. She smiled one of her smiles. "Hello."
"Is this where you guys always are?" Hermione asked this time.
Luna nodded. "We read together," she was about to continue, likely to tell the pair about a creature she was reading about, but Ginny gave a snort and laughed. Luna looked at her and smiled one of her smiles.
"Yeah, looks like Malfoy is getting a lot of reading done right now." Ginny grinned, moving closer to the blonde boy fast asleep.
Luna's smile seemed to brighten. "Yes, Draco tends to fall asleep. But it's alright. I tell him all about the creatures when he wakes. He likes to walk me to class."
"Does he now?" Hermione's brows peeked up in interest and she looked at the sleeping boy curiously.
Luna nodded in affirmation. Assuming Hermione was questioning the first part of her statement, she continued, "he's always rather tired, and by this time of day, he needs a quick nap."
Ginny smiled, giving a chuckle. "So since he feels bad for falling asleep while you guys study magical creatures he walks you to class? So you can tell him about a new one you've read up on?"
"He's rather curious about the creatures. He's even agreed to come with me to feed the therstles over the weekend."
Ginny looked impressed. "You guys are becoming great friends."
"Draco is very nice," Luna spoke with a smile.
By the time Luna needed to wake Draco from his nap, the two girls had long gone. Leaving Draco completely unaware that anyone knew about him and Luna and what they did during free period.
Draco grabbed his book from the floor and followed Luna out. They started towards the direction of the dungeons where Luna's next class was held, the girl chattering away about some creature. And Draco listened with the upmost attention towards the small blonde and what she had to say.
