Chapter 12: Moving forward (edited)
I sighed in annoyance and angrily glared at the cast on my right foot, it was a very bad sprain, thank god it wasn't a fracture though. The snapping sound was my weight against the bones as I landed cracking them but not severely. It was a close call though.
Makkachin ran into the room and jumped on the bed almost instantly attacking me, I fell back on the bed as he gave me multiple slobbery kisses. "Noo! Someone help I'm being killed with slobber and cuteness!" I exclaimed frantically, I looked at Makkachin and held him back with trembling arms, his tail was wagging so much and his breathing was quick and heavy.
Victor rushed in. "Makkachin! I'm the only one who can give Yuuri kisses!" He exclaimed and helped me with Makkachin by pulling him off of me, I wiped my face of slobber and thanked Victor. "Anything for my love." He winked at me and sat on the edge of the bed. "How's Yurio?" I asked and sat up. "He's getting ready, I think he's anxious." Victor pulled me onto his lap and buried his face in the crook of my neck.
I blushed. "D-do you think he'll be okay?" I stammered. "I think so, he's a strong boy I've seen him go through tough things," Victor mumbled. "Oh? That's..worrisome." I stated with a frown. Was Yurio also burying his emotions within himself? I pulled away from the embrace. "I want to be able to..to protect him.." I stammered anxiously once again feeling my face heat up.
Victor squealed and hugged me tightly even though I just escaped his last embrace. "You're like a mother Yuuri..oh! I know! You can be the mama and I can be the papa, and Yurio will be the baby!" He smiled, I was reminded of something, but I just couldn't remember what. Why was it so difficult to remember my past? I was shaken from my thoughts when Yurio arrived, he wore his tiger sweater with his blue Russian skater jacket over it with skinny jeans and leopard printed shoes.
He looked a bit embarrassed and stared at the ground gripping the straps of his backpack. "I-I'm ready for school." He muttered. "Alright! Let's get going then. I'll be back my love, your father is going to show me around Hasetsu while we're at it too." Victor gave me a quick peck on the cheek and grabbed ahold of Yurio's arm dragging him along but was suddenly stopped.
Victor and I gave Yurio a look of confusion as he stood his ground. "Yurio?" Victor turned to him. "I...I want Yuuri to come too.." he stammered out, I perked up. "R-really?" I asked, shocked at his request. He nodded not uttering another word. "..alright.." I nodded and stood cautiously, the cast on my foot almost went up to my knee, it was supposed to serve as a brace to keep the bones in place and sturdy.
I trudged toward the duo with a shy smile, Yurio seemed to calm a bit and allowed himself to be dragged by Victor, he would always turn his gaze over his shoulder as if to check that I was still there, maybe he was anxious to go to a new school? If so then why ask me to go? Although I did feel happy when he asked.
Outside Victor helped me into my father's car, Yurio sat beside me and Victor sat in the passenger's seat beside my father who was going to drive. We buckled ourselves in since my father never started the car until he was informed that all of us had buckled our seatbelts stating that safety comes first. With a chuckle, Yurio shook his head and looked out the window. "Hey pork cutlet bowl." He mumbled. "Yes?" I asked and looked at him as the car started and we drove off.
"..look I'm not going to lie, I'm nervous. I feel like shit, I've never liked school, they were always filled with shitheads and guys who thought they were tough." He sighed. "I'm foreign, what makes you think they'll like me?" He asked with a sneer. "Yuri." He looked at me with wide emerald green eyes. "They will like you because...because you're absolutely extraordinary, you're one of a kind." I smiled, his hair fell in front of his face and I moved it away.
He looked at me with an unreadable look on his face and suddenly flushed red, Victor was silent along with my father, they were both smiling. Yurio stifled a laugh and threw his arms around my neck, I hugged him back, surprised by his actions. I didn't care about what people had said about him, about him being stubborn and hot-headed. Yurio was kind and actually pretty adorable when he opens up more, he just needed time and someone to understand him.
The car soon came to a stop, I looked out the window to see many teens outside with huge groups of friends, Yurio pulled away from the embrace and readjusted his backpack. "Thank you Yuuri, thank you mister Katsuki." He opened the door and reluctantly climbed out. "Thank you..Victor." He slammed the door shut receiving a few stares. "Good luck Yurio, I'll be waiting for you okay?" I waved at him. "Bye Yurio, behave yourself." Victor laughed.
Yurio turned to us and gave a small smile before heading toward the front office to gather his belongings and schedule, Victor and I had signed him up for classes that he would hopefully enjoy. With that we finally drove off, my father received a phone call from my mother, supposedly the hot springs were now packed with tons of people, I instantly felt bad for my mother and Mari. "Sorry, Victor looks like I can't show you around Hasetsu today." My father apologized with a tone of guilt.
Victor shook his head. "It's okay, I'm sure Yuuri can show me once his ankle is better." He suggested. "But of course, my son sure knows his way around the place. Alright then let's head home." As we drove off I couldn't help but to worry for Yurio, would he be okay? Would he make friends? I hoped for the best.
Eventually, when we arrived home Victor helped me out of the car and lifted me from the ground. "Victor! You need to stop doing this!" I exclaimed as I tightly held onto his arms. "I will once you start eating more." He smiled. "Besides, I think I've come up with something but...ah never mind." He set me back down when my father left the front door open for us.
I limped away from Victor in fear that he would drag me to the kitchen and force me to eat, I was lucky though and made it to my room plopping on top of my bed. Victor was right behind me though and lied next to me. "Yuuri, when is your ankle going to get better? I want to see you skate again." He whined. "In about a week or so," I mumbled and turned on my side to face him.
He smiled lovingly at me and rested his warm hand against my cheek. "Is this a dream?" He asked. "I'm staring at the most beautiful person in the world, and he almost fully belongs to me." He winked. "Y-yeah I can't wait for that Victor." I blushed and hid my face, Victor softly pinched my cheek and chuckled. "You're adorable Yuuri." he cooed.
I uncovered my face and looked at Victor with a new curiosity. "Victor," I mumbled. "Yes, Yuuri?" He let go of my cheek and stared at me with a concerned look. "..you promised you'd tell me one of your secrets." I reminded him of his promise. His smile faded and he seemed to tense at the mention of his secret. "Ah..right." He mumbled.
He avoided my gaze and looked around the room. "Uhm you have..lots of shredded paper on your walls, why is that?" He asked I frowned and grabbed his hands. "Victor," I grumbled. "Yuuri I..I can't." He stuttered wearily. "Please Victor, you promised." I pleaded anxiously.
He turned on his back and covered his face, he stayed silent and I wondered if he had fallen asleep until he took a shaky breath and turned his head to look at me, his mood had changed so drastically it was frightening. I felt small, Victor's stare was like a death glare to me. He opened his mouth as if to say something but instead sighed almost angrily to himself and bit his bottom lip.
I grabbed his hand and held it tight. "You've helped me Victor..you are still helping me." I rested his hand against my chest over my heart. "So please let me help you." I had regained my confidence knowing well that it was my turn to help Victor. He took a breathe and laughed. "This is one of the reasons why I love you so much," he stated with a glum smile. "Alright, Yuuri." He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close to his chest. "I'll tell you one okay?" He rested his chin on top of my head.
I rested my head against his chest hearing his unevenly beating heart, he was obviously scared. He kissed the top of my head. "I'm scared Yuuri.." He started. "I'm always scared, I put up a smile because I don't want you to get worried. I'm scared that one day you'll collapse and..you won't wake up. I'm scared about Makkachin and Yuri, I don't want to lose any of you." His voice was shaky.
But he continued. "We're like a family, I want us to be a family. You may not know this but Yuri struggles with himself a lot, he doesn't have anyone to guide him through his life, he's a teenager he's going to go through a lot of difficult obstacles." Victor actually sounded like a father, but I was bringing the pieces together. "And you Yuuri, you don't notice yourself but you're struggling a lot too, your health and anxiety it worries both Yurio and me, and even your parents I've seen the way they look at you along with your sister." I froze.
Did Victor really take notice of all that? Was he really that observant? I hugged Victor tightly. "You're struggling too," I stated in a matter-of-fact tone. "..yes I am.," he said in a mere whisper. "But you and Yurio are the only ones that keep me going, I can't imagine what would've happened if I never met you." He was trembling, I hated when he trembled.
I hugged him tighter. "I'll always be with you Victor, I'm sure Yuri will want to too." I buried my face in his shirt. "I love you Victor, and our love is an undying love remember?" My voice was muffled but I spoke loud enough for him to hear me, his chest rumbled with quiet laughter. "Of course." he ran his hand through my hair and carefully undid my tangles as his fingers laced around my strands of hair.
I sighed in content and closed my eyes loving Victor's warmth. "Hey, Victor." I pulled away and yawned. "I'd like to think as all of us as a family too." I smiled. "I don't know why but somehow I feel like we once were, or maybe agreed to it? My mind is really muddled it's difficult for me to remember." At this Victor frowned. "But I know for sure that I will never ever forget this time. I don't think I can, I plan to stay with you forever." Victor's frown changed to a small smile.
He leaned in for a kiss but Makkachin had jumped on the bed out of nowhere and startled the both of us, I quickly sat up not wanting to be tackled by the adorable poodle and laughed as Makkachin attacked Victor instead. "No Makka!" He yelled. "Yuuri was about to give me a kiss!" He exclaimed and stopped Makkachin by taking his furry face in his hands and squishing his furry cheeks. "Don't worry boy we didn't forget about you, you'll be part of the family too." He reassured.
With that Makkachin escaped Victor's grasp and attacked him with kisses once again, I laughed at the sight. "Yuuri help me!" Victor reached his hand out to me, I was still laughing as I lightly pushed Makkachin and helped Victor into a sitting position, Makkachin whined and rested on Victor's lap, his breathing was quick and heavy. "You're hyper today." I smiled and patted his furry head, he licked my hand and his tail wagged back and forth.
Victor rested his head on my shoulder and hummed nonchalantly, I was happy he was smiling. "I wonder if Yurio will be okay." He mumbled. "I hope so too." I held his hand, he seemed to be in deep thought, I always knew he was thinking whenever he would bite his lip. He stood startling Makkachin who jumped off the bed and kneeled on the ground, I sat at the edge of the bed curious at his actions. Victor gently took ahold of my injured ankle and unwrapped the cast.
He slid it off and stood taking my hands in his own. "Victor it will hurt," I said with weariness in my voice. "It's okay, it won't hurt." He reassured, I instantly trusted him and slowly stood to step on my uninjured foot, I hopped and nearly fell over but Victor wrapped his hands around my waist and lifted me from the ground, he was getting used to carrying me often now.
"You still need to gain strength for your legs, your footing and placement is still a bit sloppy." He lectured, I groaned in response and leaned my head against his shoulder. "Yeah, yeah," I muttered. He chuckled and placed me back down on the bed because Makkachin was jumping on his legs barking for attention, I strapped on my cast and sighed with a frown. "If only I was better at skating, then I wouldn't have gotten this cast." I poked at the cast.
Victor sat beside me and slung his arm over my shoulder. "You are a great skater Yuuri, believe it or not, but you inspired me." He looked into my eyes with something unreadable shining in his eyes. "I did?" I asked, he smiled and once again leaned forward, Makkachin was lying on the ground which meant no disruptions.
Our faces were mere inches apart I leaned forward, the door suddenly slammed open, Mari was standing there with a worried look. "Yuuri, the school called. Yurio got in a fight." My heart dropped to my stomach and my blood ran cold. I was scared for my life, I was terrified, I was the one that lost track of time, I was the one that failed to protect Yuri.
-----------------------------
I anxiously paced around the lobby despite the difficulty to walk, Victor was trying to calm me down but I just couldn't, Yuri was at the principal's office right now still being disciplined and lectured by the teachers and principal. I was angry though, I was sure Yurio didn't do anything wrong. They soon arrived, first, the teachers were dismissed and then the principal arrived. I gritted my teeth when I laid eyes on Yuri, he had a bruise on his cheek and a cut on his lip, he kept his gaze on the ground.
I quickly went up to him and pulled him into a tight hug that I knew he needed. "I'm so sorry.." He apologized over and over. "No, I'm the one who should be sorry." I pulled away from the embrace and held his face in my hands. "Who did this? Who hurt you?" I softly grazed my thumb across his bruised cheek, his eyes watered.
I looked over at Victor who was talking with the principal, I took ahold of Yuri's hand and dragged him outside to the empty parking lot. "Mow please tell me." I pleaded and once again looked into his eyes, he ferociously wiped away his tears which only made it worse. "I..I can't." he stammered. "Why not?" I asked shocked and scared. "Because..." his lip trembled. "Oh, Yuri..I'm so sorry." I once again pulled him into a hug.
He hid his face and grasped onto the back of my shirt. "T-they said they would hurt you if I told." He stammered, close to tears. "..it's okay..you're safe. I'm here." I bit my lip, why would someone hurt Yuri? Was I the cause of this? Was I the one that caused Yuri"s pain?...
