Chapter 1: A Different Kind Of Mystery
Thunder rumbled, and claws of lightning sliced through the sky. The amount of bad weather that was flooding through the town was fairly accurate due to the current situation that Eden and her friends were experiencing. And though the incident only happened about a day ago, it was all Eden could think about. Right now she was staring out the bedroom window, watching workers of the apartment put a tarp over the complex's pool as rain began to fall. "No child should have to go through so much pain...and misery." She thought. "Please God, Master Eon, StarClan, Eclipse, somebody...give me a sign. How can I fix this? We've done everything we could do to protect Cloud, and even when we succeed...we fail to protect his family and friends. And now...they're all gone." She closed her eyes for a moment of silence, and eventually got a response from three out of the four people she called upon. The first voice came from none other than Master Eon.
"Do not worry young Portal Master. A solution will come, and any mistake or incident that has been made will be undone."
"But Master Eon...I feel like I failed at doing my job– protecting innocent people. And the guilt is eating me alive..."
The next to respond was Eclipse, with his masculine, baritone voice echoing in Eden's ears.
"What happened yesterday was not your fault. You and your team did not know that Verona would attack again."
"Though, we could've come sooner, Eclipse. That's all that comes to my mind when someone tells me that."
She then felt the presence and smelled the warm scent of Bluestar coming down from StarClan to respond to her prayers as well.
"You grieve too much, young Stripestar. You must remember that you are not the only one who feels pain from this incident."
"Hm? I know that, Bluestar. We all felt as if this event was major."
"No, there is one...one member of your Clan that feels the same amount of sorrow and grief as you. Maybe even more."
"Can...can you tell me who it is?"
Her response was the sound of three chuckles.
"You shall find out soon enough, Master Eden/young one/Stripestar."
"Hello? Anyone home?" Her conversation with the spirits had been interrupted by the sound of a portal opening in the living room. With the amount of stress she was going through, Eden felt as if she barely had the strength to answer back. "Yeah, in the bedroom." She said. Eden refused to turn around as the door creaked open, and in came Petra...with the same look of sorrow she had when they buried Cloud's mother. "Hey, Petra..." Eden sighed, looking into the corner of the room. It was impossible to not notice her current lack of eye contact, though one would say that Petra might be the only one who understands. "Where are the others?" She asked. "Running an errand for me. They should be back soon." Eden replied. Petra gave a small nod, and stepped up beside Eden to join her in looking out at the dreary sky. "Do you have a guess on why I came here?" She asked. "What is the meaning of the word, guess? I know everything, Petra. Everything......except how to fix this." Eden replied. Her friend's response was nothing but a sigh. "He shouldn't have to go through...this crap that's been happening lately." She said, referring to Cloud. "I want to help him through the situation, or change it somehow, but...too much damage has been done already. Things like this make me wish we could reverse time." The rain began to pour down hard as soon as Petra finished her sentence, and Eden nodded sadly as she immediately took the time to think hard about it. Verona personally took the opportunity to kill Cloud's mother, while the Helldog pack took care of the rest of the Wolfdragons...and that's where the major question came in. Why were the Helldogs helping Verona? It was said that even after the dragon came back from the dead, the pack still hesitated to help him because of their alpha's death and the threat of Eden coming back. But during the incident that happened yesterday, they seemed to have gone back to their savage ways...as if their leader was still alive. As a result, Verona had a much stronger alliance than the last time the gang tangled with him. "I'm getting a a very faint mystery vibe from this." Eden said. She walked away from the window and out into the kitchen with Petra shortly following behind. "What mystery?" Petra asked. "We already know Verona did everything, is there something I'm missing?"
"Look between the lines, is what my seventh grade English teacher would say to you. Why were the Helldogs helping Verona?" Eden asked. "What are you talking about? They've always helped him." Petra replied. "No, after I killed their alpha and took control of the pack, they just...fell apart. They were so scared that I would come back and kill them, that it made them seem weak and powerless." Eden said. Petra took a short minute to process Eden's words. "Yeah...yeah, you're right." She said. "And thinking about it now, I'm trying to wrap my head around how Verona is alive. Your Wither Swords are the most lethal weapon in existence, nothing can survive a stab from them." Eden nodded, but then came to a small realization. "Ham did...but he came back with the help of Master Eon. Could there be some evil spirit that we don't know about helping Verona?" She asked, as Petra shook her head. "No, I actually remember him mentioning some...black star that specifically brings people who've been withered away back to life. Sounds kind of far fetched to me." She said. Not only did it sound far fetched, but it sounded awfully strange...what star is black? Eden thought about it for a long two minutes, and had a massive light bulb moment as well as a surge of worry and shock. "The black Nether star."
Ten minutes later...
Now in Petra's home dimension, her and Eden burst through the doors of the Order's treasure room...pleading that their assumptions were not true. But unfortunately, to their horror, the spot that the black Nether star had been placed in...was empty. "It's...it's actually gone!" Petra said. "So that means someone stole it for the sole purpose of bringing Verona back to life." Eden gave a small nod, and growled before kicking a pebble away in anger. "Ugh! I hate the fact that this makes sense! To bring back someone who withered away, why not use the very thing that comes from the Wither itself?" She said. "Who do you think stole it?" Petra asked, as Eden shrugged. "I don't know. It couldn't have been the Helldogs...knowing how clumsy they can be, they'd probably get caught in a heartbeat." She said. "But I do know for sure, we've got a lot of things on our to-do list. We gotta get your Nether star, find out what's up with the Helldogs, and stop Verona once and for all. Are you up for it?" Petra nodded solemnly. "I need to do it...for Cloud, and every Wolfdragon that we couldn't save in time. It might just be the solution to our problem." She said. What Petra just said reminded Eden about how Bluestar said that there was one member of the Clan who felt the same way she did, was Petra that Clan member? Though when someone does mention that, she always denies it...and they take her word for it. "Petra does care an awful lot about Cloud." Eden thought. "She's almost like a mother to him, but she denies it every time someone says that. Though I think it's clear, I know who Bluestar's talking about." Then, interrupting Eden's thoughts, the sound of tiny footsteps could be heard. "Petra? Is that you?" It was Cloud, still looking rather depressed as he crept out into eyesight. "Cloud? What are you doing up?" Petra asked. "I...I couldn't sleep." He said, looking down at his paws. "I went to see if I could sleep in the bed with you, but you weren't in your room so I came here. Where did you go?"
"I had some trouble sleeping myself, on the count of the...incident that happened yesterday." Petra replied, rubbing the back of her neck (side of her head?). Cloud let out a long sigh upon being reminded by his mother's death, and forced himself to hold in tears. "Yeah...me too." He said. "So I went to talk to Eden, to see how she was doing." Petra continued. "And we've discovered...that we have another adventure on our hands." Cloud tilted his head in confusion and looked to Eden, who nodded in confirmation. "Meet back at my place tomorrow?" She asked Petra, who nodded as well. "Sounds good, see you then." With that, Eden opened up a portal and jumped through, leaving Cloud still tremendously confused. "Hold on, can we back up a little bit?" He asked. "What adventure?" Petra kneeled down and gave him a pat on the head. "I'll tell you in the morning, but for now...we both need some rest. This is just speculation, but I don't think the Imagination Dimension will be as nice to us as it's always been." She said. "My home dimension?! No, I can't go back there! Verona and the Helldogs might be searching for me!" Cloud said. "I know, I know, and I promise...me and Eden both would give our lives to protect you a million times over if we could." Petra said, as Cloud gave a look of uncertainty. "Trust me, Verona and the Helldogs can hit us with every little bit of strength they've got, and me and Eden will still find the power to knock them on their butts and send them running for the hills. I won't let them hurt you, Cloud. Never again." Cloud flattened his ears against his head, and stared at Petra with wide eyes. "You swear?" He asked. "Cross my heart, hope to die...and I swear on Reuben's grave." Petra replied. "Don't tell Jesse I said that." Cloud giggled at her last comment, and gave a tiny smile. "Thanks, Petra." They hugged, and Petra suddenly felt slightly worried. What if Cloud was in more danger than she just said he was? "I should've thought about what I said before I said it, Verona and the Helldogs can be a force to be reckoned with." She thought.
"I'm going to need to bring my A-game."
