"Queenie, have you seen my black round skirt?"

Tina shouted this softly from across their shared apartment. It was finally the day she'd been waiting for, the day Newt had told her in his letters.

The day Newt came back to New York.

For some reason, particularly today, she wanted to put on her best outfit. Anytime Newt crossed her mind, she just felt like she needed to look her best. So, she decided to ditch the business look today, and go for something a little different. She had gotten home from work at a decent time, and now she was trying to find something better to change into.

"Which one?" Queenie asked back from her place in the living room. She was supervising as her magic sewed up a rip she had in one of her dresses, making sure the thread didn't catch.

"The black one with felt dots on it," Tina told her, coming into the room. "I've been looking, and I can't find it anywhere."

"It's right there," Queenie said, pointing to the fireplace. "It's drying. Did you already forget you washed it yesterday?"

"Oh, right..." Tina said, trailing off. "I guess I did forget. This morning has been hectic."

Queenie finally looked up from her dress and at her slightly-distressed sister. "Oh, right. You're trying to impress him."

Tina looked shocked. "Impress whom?"

"Newt," Queenie told her simply. "That's why you're putting on your favorite outfit and stressing about this so much. You're trying to make everything perfect for him."

"I'm not trying to impress Mister Scamander," Tina shook her head. "I'm just trying to make it look like our house isn't always a mess."

They made eye contact. "You're going to wear the dress blouse too?" Queenie asked with a smile. "That's the same blouse you wore when you first were trying to address the Aurors. When you were trying to impress them."

"Get out of my head!" Tina told her, but Queenie just smiled. It was amusing to see her sister getting so worked up over him, endearing really. Tina always was the one watching when Queenie would gush over Jacob, but now she's the one gushing over Newt. It was entertaining to be on the other side of the spectrum.

"You don't need to try so hard to impress him, you know," Queenie told her. "A girl like you, he probably already thinks the world of you."

"I'm not trying to impress him!" Tina shouted again, grabbing her skirt away from the fire. "I'm just going to go change real quick. If anyone-"

"And by anyone, you mean Newt, of course."

"If anyone comes to the door, invite them in. Do you mind putting something on, Queenie?"

"Oh, sure," Queenie said, finishing the supervision of her dress. You couldn't even tell she had ripped it before, and she quickly slid on the dress. Right as Queenie was taking the dry laundry away from the fire, she heard a knock at the door. "I'll get it!" Queenie shouted, setting the laundry down in a neat pile and going to the door. She looked through the peephole, seeing more than she expected.

She knew Newt was coming, but there was another girl standing next to him, looking confused as ever as she looked around. Queenie tilted her head slightly, opening the door and smiling at the pair of them. "Newt," she began, moving aside and letting him in. "It's nice to see you again. Who's this?"

Completely ignoring her question and oblivious to the obviously confused girl standing next to him, he asked, "Can I speak to you for a moment?" he asked, a serious tone in his voice.

"Oh, sure," Queenie said, then turned to the mystery girl. "You can sit yourself on the couch there, honey." As Queenie looked at the girl more, another strange feeling came over her. Just looking at her for a moment, she couldn't reach into her mind right away. It was blank and empty, as if she was using occlumency. As confused as Queenie was, she shook her head and walked with Newt into the next room. "What is it?"

Before Newt could open his mouth, Tina walked up to the crowd of them. "Newt," she smiled brightly, her eyes lighting up. "It's good to see you again. It's been so long."

"I have something important to tell the two of you," Newt said, not even greeting Tina. Before either of them could comment on his behavior, he continued. "The girl I brought with me, she's a Mug- I mean, no-maj. Don't worry though, she doesn't know anything about magic."

"No-maj?" Tina's eye widened.

Queenie smiled slightly. She secretly adored this kind of drama, and it was like the first time she met Newt and Jacob all over again. "Newt, what're you up to?"

"She tried taking my case," Newt started his story. "I have no idea why, but she snatched it and started running. Trying to get it back... I may or may not have caused her serious head injuries that have caused her to lose her memory."

Tina's eyes widened. "Newt, how did you manage to make her lose her memories?"

"Well, when I was trying to get the case back, I was trying to summon it to me, and things went very wrong very fast. Resulted in the case hitting her square in the forehead, and then in the back of the head. She was out for a while."

"That's why I couldn't read her..." Queenie mumbled, trialing off. "She has nothing on her mind to read."

"So, I was wondering if we could house her for the night, or at least until she can remember where she lives. I feel... slightly guilty. I'd hate to see her on the streets lost because of me. Who knows what could happen." Newt asked. "One night, no magic. She can't remember anything as it is, if we obliviate her on top of that, she'll be at a complete loss."

Tina sighed. As much as she didn't like the idea, Newt was right. It just wouldn't be right to leave her like that, and as long as she doesn't find out about magic, she'd be fine. "One night," Tina told him. "But we can't house her forever. Eventually, memories or no memories, she'll have to leave. These things take time, her memory could come back quickly, or it could take days, or even months. Some people don't even get their memories back for-"

"Don't say that," Newt cut her off, shaking her head. "I don't want to end up being the reason someone loses all of their memories forever."

"It'll be fine," Queenie assured him. "I'm sure they'll come back. We don't mind the company anyways, do we Teenie?"

Tina looked at her, sighing and smiling. "No, I guess it won't be all bad."

______, who had been sitting on the couch until now, stood up and went towards the group. "I don't mean to intrude," she began. "But I'm out of the loop, and I just want to know what's going on."

"It looks like you'll be staying with us," Tina told her, then hesitated. "What's your name? Sorry, I never heard it."

"______, but I can't remember my last name. Sorry about that... did, uh, did Newt tell you what happened?"

"Yes, and we're allowing you to stay with us for tonight. Hopefully you'll remember a few things by the time morning comes."

"Thank you so much. Not be get hasty but... where will I be sleeping?"

Tina paused for a moment, and she exchanged looks with Queenie. Queenie read her mind, and understood the predicament. "Well," Queenie began. "We only have one guest bedroom, but it does have two beds, so it seems you'll be rooming with Mister Scamander."

This time, it was Newt and ______ who were exchanging glances. They gave each other the same look of "will this really be alright?" They almost examined each other, and it was the first time ______ really looked at him. In all honesty, she thought he was really handsome. He had more freckles than she would ever be able to count, gentle eyes that seemed to stare right into hers, and his curly hair fell nicely onto his face.

At the same time, Newt was examining her. He had already made a mental note to himself earlier about how he thought her eyes were beautiful, and looking at her now, that thought was even better justified. Thanks to the fact she hadn't just waken up from being knocked out, and she wasn't terrified, he got to see her eyes in a natural state, and they were even better than before. It may have been an odd thought, but he thought she had an adorable jaw too, and a nice nose. In fact, everything about her face was just perfectly fitting.

Queenie took one look at ______ and was able to read her mind, and she laughed softly to herself. "You think he's cute too, huh?" she began, not realizing how embarrassing it could be to say it aloud. "Tina thinks so too, but I don't see it too much. Maybe he's just not my type."

Everyone's face in the circle who wasn't Queenie began to turn a light shade of red. Queenie always had a habit of reading people's minds aloud without giving it a second thought, so it wasn't until she saw the way all of them reacted she realized what she said. "I don't know what you mean," ______ began, explaining herself. "I wasn't thinking anything like that."

"Yes Queenie, it's not as if you could see into her thoughts," Tina said, shooting her sister a look.

"Oh, right," Queenie remembered, getting the hint. They weren't allowed to use or even hint at magic with ______ around.

"Well, anyways," ______ began. "I'm sorry to be a bother, but my clothes are dirty and I'm all scratched up, so I was wondering if I could use your shower."

"Oh, of course," Tina told her. "I'll show you where the bathroom is. I'm guessing you don't have anything to change into?" ______ shook her head. "I figured as much, I'll lend you a pair of mine." Tina looked back at her sister, who could tell she was still flustered, and then left the room with ______, leaving Queenie and Newt alone in the room.

After a small moment, of silence, Newt spoke. "So... is that what she really thinks of me?" he asked in a small voice, as if it took all the courage to voice his thoughts.

The very phrasing of this question seemed like an opportunity to Queenie. Based on who he was asking about, she would know whose opinion mattered to Newt more on the subject. Whose thoughts Newt wanted to confirm more. "What who really thinks of you?" she asked, trying to sound innocent enough in her intentions.

Newt hesitated for a moment, then shook his head. "Never mind," he told her. "I didn't realize how late it was getting. I'm going to start getting my things together and feed the creatures."

"Oh, okay..." Queenie trailed off, a little disappointed. Tina was stressing all day about getting her right outfit for tonight, even if she wouldn't get to wear it for long, and Newt seemed to look right through her, as if she wasn't even there.

Yet, he stared for the longest time at ______...

I don't think I have to read his mind to know which of the two he was talking about, she thought to herself, sighing and walking off to the kitchen.
