In a small house on the edge of Staten Island, a man stood and waited for his private detective to show up. He promised he was the best, and the wizard intended to find out if that was true. It had been days since ______ was supposed to be back from Manhattan, he should've known it was a mistake to let her go alone. He didn't think she'd try to run away again.
Not after what happened last time.
He heard a noise and knew that the private detective had just apparated back, he had been expecting him all morning. Without bothering to turn around, he asked, "Did you find her?"
"Yes," the detective smiled. "Saw her yesterday at a café in Battery Park, the one you told me was her favorite. She was with someone."
He turned around, looking at the man with a mix of surprise and anger. "Who?"
"Have you ever heard of Newton Scamander? He was part of the beast scandal with Grindelwald and MACUSA a few months back."
The wizard went silent. Of course he knew Newt Scamander, that was the man whose case ______ was supposed to steal. The plan the two of them made together. Why would she be with him?
"There's something else you should know," the private detective continued. "I overheard their conversation. It seems as if ______ has lost her memory."
This made the wizard perk up. "She can't remember anything? Not even me?"
"She didn't know your name, she didn't have a single response," the detective told him. "Now tell me, how is that possible when you already punished the man who tried to Obliviate her?"
The wizard pushed away the question. "I hired you because unlike the last man, you claimed to be no-maj friendly. I didn't hire you to ask me questions. Do you know where she's staying?"
"Luckily, they walked home. I can tell you the exact apartment complex, but not the address."
"Then find out, and get her back," the wizard ordered going up to the detective. "Or do you want to end up like the last detective?"
The detective apparated, leaving the other wizard alone. ______ doesn't remember me. This means we can have a fresh start; this means I can get everything I ever wanted. I never wanted to Obliviate her, but this is better. I can completely restart.
I just need to get her back.

"Tina, please, I need more time." Newt was trying to get through to her that morning. She had come home late last night, and right now all she wanted to do was drink her tea and enjoy her morning before she had to head back to work.
"I gave you a week, Newt. It's not my fault that your time is almost up and you're no closer to finding out who she is than you were when this all started," Tina told him coolly. "We could be dealing with something bigger when it comes to her. We don't know who she is, who she's connected to, or why they would want your case. MACUSA could really help."
"MACUSA would obliviate her, and then all her memories of magic would be gone and we'd be worse off than when we started," Newt told her. "She's remembering more than you give her credit for, she really is. Another week is all I ask of you, Tina. Two weeks total."
Tina sighed, looking towards the room Newt and ______ were sharing. She was still sleeping, and Tina considered everything that had happened. Newt was right about one thing: they needed to find out more about her. The confrontation they had in that alleyway still put Tina on edge: someone was looking for her, someone who wasn't afraid of using violence to get to her.
An idea popped into her head.
"Where were you guys when that wizard attacked you?" Tina asked Newt, changing the subject completely.
Newt was taken aback by the sudden change of subject. "Erm, it wasn't too far from here, just about a mile out. Why?"
"Think about it Newt," Tina began. "Whoever is looking for her went around there of all places. They know more about her than we do, and that's where they decided to look for her. What if that alley is more important than we're giving it credit for?"
Newt was completely lost. "It's... just an alley."
"It's not about the alley, it's about the area. Maybe she lived around there, maybe whoever is looking for her lives around there, it must hold some importance. Otherwise they wouldn't look for her around there."
Newt nodded, finally catching on. "So, you want us to look around there?"
"It might be more useful than you know. You guys go out every day, right?"
Newt blushed, thinking about the implications of that. "I mean, yes, but it's all for her memories."
"That's... what I mean," Tina watched as Newt's face changed slightly in color. Her heart sank just a little. They shared a room, they went out every day, and it was obvious that he enjoyed being around her and felt some way towards her. She wished it was her, but it wasn't, and that hurt.
But right now, that wasn't important. Get over him, focus on work, don't think about it, she filled her mind. "You should go there today. See what there is to find."
Before Newt could reply, they heard a door open, and Newt turned his head to see ______ coming out of the bedroom, dressed for the day already. "Good morning Tina, good morning Newt," she told them as she passed them. "Tina, do you mind if I use some of your bread to make something to eat? It's just... I feel like I'm trespassing if I take food without asking."
"Go ahead," Tina told her with a smile. "Don't worry about asking every time. As long as you're a guest here, you're allowed to make yourself whatever you want to eat, you're not a prisoner."
______ nodded and headed towards the kitchen. Newt looked to Tina. "We'll go there today, right after we finish getting ready, we'll be out the door."

As the detective headed back towards Manhattan, he thought about Draculous's threat. He wasn't one for empty threats, and he knew that he was a reasonably powerful wizard. He never understood why a man like Draculous would get involved with a no-maj, or why he would go through all this trouble to get her back. How important was this woman?
He checked the notepad of the last detective who was on the case, trying to ignore the bloodstains. Tortured and killed just for trying to Obliviate her... he thought. Once he knew that fact and saw the body of the poor man, he knew that his opinion on the girl was best kept to himself.
He had spotted her around her apartment complex in Manhattan, stating that she "kept passing it," like she didn't know it was hers. He didn't know why that note was important before, but he knew why now.
He apparated to the location, looking around the alley. To tell the truth, he didn't want to catch her here. He didn't want to duel Newt like the last wizard had to, and he preferred to get her in a place he didn't have to worry about using magic.
So, instead he wanted to leave her a message. One that if she came back and saw it, she would go back to where she was staying last time. That was it would be easier to follow her, and it would be easier to get her exact address for Draculous.
It was beginning to sound too easy.

"When are you going to tell me where we're going?" ______ asked, following Newt. Ever since they had left the house that morning, Newt had been telling her that "he had a plan" but failed to elaborate on what the plan was or what it entailed.
"You'll see," Newt told her, continuing to walk. He knew it wasn't far away, but he didn't really have a good reason in mind yet for bringing her here. Behold, ______, my grand plan for today was to bring you to this alleyway. Not exactly the best reason.
______ stopped when they got around the area, and Newt thought he maybe got lucky and she'd go there naturally. "What is it?" Newt asked, going nearer to her.
"I know we were here just a few days ago, but something here feels..." she trailed off. "Sort of familiar."
Newt knew the alley was just ahead. Just a few feet away. He followed her as she headed towards it, but passed it without a second thought. Newt sighed, going to catch up to her, when he saw something suspicious in the alley out of the corner of his eye and headed into it.
His heart sank. "______! You need to see this."
______ turned back around when she heard Newt call out to her, walked into the alley, and nearly passed out when she saw what he was talking about.
The alley had been completely clear just a few days ago, but now, it was covered wall to wall, every square inch covered by papers that all read the same thing: ______, I found you. ______, you can't run forever.
She started to sway, and Newt ran up to her, trying to help her keep her balance. "Are you alright?" he asked her, knowing it was a stupid question. How could she be okay after seeing all of this?
"I..." she trailed off. She was at a loss for words, she didn't know what to say, what to think. "Who would do this? Who found me?"
"I... I don't know," Newt told her. "Do you need to lay down? We can head home for the day, we don't have to go out today."
______ nodded solemnly. "Please, let's go."
Newt, still holding her, guided her out of the alley.
-
They seem close. He won't like that.
The detective waited a few moments before popping out of the alley, spotting them, and following them. He knew that would work, what was even better is he didn't need to use any paper, just magic. He was glad that Newt didn't stay long enough to know that all the papers were fake. He silently followed them, out and into the apartment building.
He prided himself on being a good detective, and now, he knew exactly where to tell Draculous they were.
