IV - Doc
Doc was awoken this morning with Rendog asking where the Architechs were.
Ren: Hey, does anyone know where the Architech trio is? Sahara broke again
Impulse: No, I haven't seen them, sorry
Ren: No problem, hippie bro!
Stress: Oh, their at my base! Grian got himself sick
Xisuma: Seriously?!?
Ren: Again?
Impulse: Did he overwork himself?
Scar: Will he be okay?
Cub: That explains why Sahara is always breaking...
Doc: Cub! Will you forget about the stupid Sahara/Concorp rivalry for once and
think about our friend?
Cub: Sorry, but since when were you and Grian friends? You've been on opposite sides this whole season.
Doc growled shutting his phone off and tossing it on his bed. Stupid Cub always reminding him of the facts he tried so hard to avoid and forget. He was right, Grian always seemed to be his enemy. During the Civil War he was on G-Team, while he was on Team STAR. Later, Doc was part of Area 77 while Grian was one of the hippies that opposed it. Why, why did the world have to be against him? After a while of just sitting on the foot of his bed, Doc decided to go to Stress's hospital wing and try to apologize to Grian.
So Doc Nether portalled over there, knowing that Mumbo and Iskall most likely wouldn't let him see Grian, but he had to try. Rounding the corner, Doc peeked in the open door and knocked on the door frame. It had apparently startled Mumbo and Iskall as they fell off the bed in surprise. Grian, however waved at him and gave Doc a small smile. Mumbo and Iskall quickly got up and blocked the door, preventing Doc from entering. "What do you want?" Iskall all but growled.
"I-I head that Grian was sick, and I wanted to see how he was doing" Doc answered
"How did you find you" Mumbo asked, his tone much friendlier, as they had been somewhat on the same team in the Civil War and had gotten to know Doc better while they worked on redstone stuff.
"Ren was looking for you in the group chat, apparently Sahara broke again." Doc replied, his laser eye darting around, looking at everything, but nothing at the same time. "Stress said that you guys were here because Grian was sick. Don't be surprised if the other hermits show up. Though I wouldn't count on Cub showing up." Doc laughed humorlessly.
"Why? What happened?" Mumbo asked
"Honestly, just read the group chat. Now can I come in?"
"Let him in guys." Grian's voice came from behind the other two Architechs, definitely weaker than it was before.
"Fine." Iskall reluctantly moved aside, grabbing his phone to read the group chat, glancing up at Doc every so often, with Mumbo sitting beside him.
Doc stood next to Grian's bed a little awkwardly, unsure of exactly what to say. "So, uh, how are you feeling?" He eventually asked, figuring he'd try to break some of the ice.
"Well, apparently, I went without sleep for eight days straight and I didn't realize it. And apparently you can't live purely off golden carrots." Grian responded. "I'm feeling just great!"
"Oh, Grian, did you finish eating?" Mumbo asked, walking over to the tray with food on it.
"Yeah, I'm done." he muttered softly. Mumbo nodded and wrote something into a book sitting on the table.
"Do you want any of this Doc?" Mumbo asked, offering him the tray, "Stress said we could have the leftovers."
"Sure, I just realized I forgot to have breakfast." Doc replied, grabbing an apple. Doc took a few bites of his apple, sitting in one of the visitor chairs. He signed. "Well, Grian, I just want to apologize." Doc said, knowing he had to start somewhere, "I've never really had the chance to work on a project with you at all, because we have been on opposing sides almost the whole season." Doc briefly glanced at Mumbo, making eye contact, and tried to gesture to the door with his eyes. Thankfully, Mumbo understood, standing up and pulling Iskall up.
"Com on, Iskall." Mumbo said, slightly pushing the shorter man out the door, "We should tell Stress how much Grian ate, and I don't know my way around!" Mumbo and Iskall left, and the door was closed behind them.
Doc turned back to Grian, who was looking at a little bit nervously, unsure of what Doc was up to. "Well now that they are gone," Doc paused, unsure of what to say. After a moment's thought, Doc eventually decided on, "You can drop the act Grian. I know you aren't always a happy cheery person." Doc said gently, hoping Grian would open up a little, "Everyone has something dark that happened to them in their past, something that happened before they joined Hermitcraft." Doc paused, before continuing on. "Take me as an example. I didn't always have this creeper skin, nor these robot parts. I-I was a normal human, only I was a test subject. I was experimented on, and not all of them worked." Doc confessed, gesturing to his cyborg arm and laser eye. "Of course, not everyone's was that extreme, but I feel that yours is pretty bad."
"Well, kinda..." Grian timidly started. "I-I don't want to even think about my high school years," Grian shuddered, "but, I used to be on a server, Minecraft Evolution, we called it. There was no set admin, but we started in an extremely early version of Minecraft, and slowly, we progressed through the versions. We had the help of the mysterious deities called the watchers. So we went onward, coming closer and closer to the present version, when, when they took me, after defeating the ender dragon. I wasn't even able to give my friends, my family, a proper goodbye."
While Grian was talking, Doc had put his hand on Grian's offering him moral support. Doc knew how hard it was talking about your past, and he felt that there were a few things omitted, such as his high school years. But he wasn't going to press to find out more. Doc felt that maybe, just maybe, him and Grian were just that little bit closer, and that was good enough for now. Through a window across from Doc, he could see Mumbo and Iskall returning. Doc stood up, saying, "Mumbo and Iskall are coming back, I'm probably just going to go though, don't be surprised if the rest of the hermits stop in to visit." Doc walked over to the door, opening it and slipping out of the small building. Mumbo nodded in greeting, and farewell, heading inside to check on Grian.
Iskall, however, stayed outside, pulling Doc out of eye shot of the window. "So, I heard your apology to Grian," he started awkwardly. And I was just wondering why. I mean, you said it yourself, you've been on opposing sides the whole season." Iskall smiled a little, "Oh, and everyone is mad at Cub for bringing it up in the group chat."
"Are they?" Doc asked, searching his pockets before realizing he left his phone in his base, he'd have to read it later. "Oh, and I guess I was just tired of being the only one on the server who didn't have a decent relationship with Grian. I feel like after the Civil War, he forgave everyone eventually, and would forgive me, but then the Area 77 thing happened." Doc trailed off, looking at his feet.
"Iskall looked at Doc closely. "He forgave you." Iskall told him, "Grian's not one to hold a grudge." With that, Iskall walked into the small hospital wing, leaving Doc alone.
'Is he really though.' Doc found himself thinking as he flew back to his base. 'Iskall didn't see how Grian looked when he mentioned his high school. Grian obviously had a grudge on at least one person there.' Doc returned to his base, texting the hermits that they should visit Grian, and started preparing the materials he would need for a project.
