What We Workin' With?
Percy POV
I plopped down behind my desk again and motioned for the class to sit. Clarisse leaned against a wall and Will pulled a chair from the corner.
"What about that fight was significant? Did you see anything important?"
A Slytherin in the back raised their hand. "Besides the fact that you were a boss?"
I chuckled. "Let's specifically talk about Will for the moment."
Hermione's hand shot into the air.
"Yeah, Mione?"
"He used his resources."
"Ten points to Gryffindor! She's correct. When I took out Will's defense system with my knife, did he give up? No. He grabbed that same knife and jumped back into the fray." I leaned forward on my elbows. "Can anyone connect it to what we'll be talking about today?"
Several demigod hands shot into the air.
"Frank?"
"Resources. Using what's around you." He answered confidently.
"Ten points to Slytherin. You always need to know what you're working with. We'll be looking at two aspects of this, the magical and the nonmagical. Today I'm starting you off with magical. Hermione, come up here please?"
She approached slowly. "Stand next to Will."
I stood and walked around my desk. "Nico, you first."
"What am I doing?"
"Hermione has been studying to be a wandmaker. Since she's in this class, I'll ask her to do this rather than call in Ollivander like I planned to do with the other classes."
Nico stood and brought his wand forward. Hermione took it and began to inspect the dark wand. "Medlar and Pawpaw, interesting combination...separately they look for quick thinkers and those who are good at conjuring, but together the wand seeks out someone who was near death."
Mutters shot around the room and Nico looked away.
"Dark magic?" A girl asked nervously.
"My mother and my sister died." The son of Hades snapped.
"Sorry." Hermione said softly.
"Continue, Mione."
"Right, okay...It's plain, thirteen inches. Three cores, dang. Rat tail, basilisk bone and griffin claw." More whispers. "The rat tail and basilisk bone just help the weilder to focus on different areas of magic as they need it. The griffin claw helps with combat magic."
Nico took back his wand with a nod and looked at me. "We done?"
"No, stay here for a moment." I turned back to the class. "Your wand is your primary weapon, knowing what it can and cannot do to help you is important. But it's also important to know what you're working with on the inside. Nico, I trust you know the Patronus charm. Please cast it."
Nico nodded and waved his wand. "Expecto Patronum!"
A silvery fox burst from the tip of his wand. I nodded. "Now can I sit down?"
"Yes. Annabeth, you next."
My girlfriend approached the front confidently and tossed her half sister her wand.
"This one's harder, makes sense that it's yours Annie. Reed and...Olive wood? Yeah. Looks for persistent intelligence."
"English please." Ron called.
"She's smart and doesn't take no for an answer." Hermione explained.
"Rather like you, Mione." Neville called.
"Yeah...anyway, it's....16 inches? That's not possible!"
Annabeth smiled. "Ollivander said it's the longest wand in existance."
"Wow, okay. It's got an antique design, very well made." Annabeth's wand had small olive leaves carved up it's length. "It gets raw power from a chimera scale fragment and has a unicorn hair to calm down the potency. That also makes your magic more consistent."
"So her wand helps her with her grades?" Piper asked in amusement.
"Not really, it just makes sure that her spells work like they're supposed to every time they're cast." Hermione responded.
"Thanks Hermione. Annabeth, patronus please."
Soon a shining jackrabbit was bouncing around the room happily.
"Luna's patronus is a rabbit." Neville commented.
"Alright, let's keep moving. Jason, get up here bro!"
Annabeth rolled her eyes and faced her classmates. "This is the real relationship that Percy has."
The demigods snickered.
Jason handed Hermione his wand and she went right into her spiel, holding it close and inspecting it. "Red Oak, Aspen, Chestnut. The oak is a duelling wood, working well with those who have a quick wit and are adaptable. The Aspen looks for strong-mindedness and Chestnut seeks natural fliers." Several of us snorted at that. "The Aspen and Chestnut trees somehow grew together, this is a special wand, Jase. It's refined looking, but not flashy. 12 and a half inches. Fairy wing helps with levitation charms and a hippogriff feather helps your adaptability. It needs respect though. Hippogriffs are fickle creatures. From the aura it gives off, it's probably gold, very rare."
"And on to the patronus." I said calmly, wondering what my friend's was.
Jason muttered the spell and a majestic White Tailed buck stood in front of us. If Harry's eyes got much wider, they would have popped out of their sockets.
"Nice, man. Pipes, your turn."
The Native American girl got up and tossed Hermione her wand. "This one's really easy. Pink Rosewood, it looks for those who are confident. Fits you, Piper. A spruce handle, needs someone calm with a sense of humor. Basically, this wand looks for someone who knows themself and is ready to do what is needed to cheer their friends up. Also means you have a flamboyant side, but it's hidden."
Piper nodded. "That's pretty accurate."
"Only eight inches, wow. That's a pretty short wand, but you're kind of small too, no offense. These designs on the end are pretty." Gilded swirls and small flowers curled along the handle. "Just a pheonix feather, bonding to independence. It takes work to master that, Pipes, it's the hardest to tame. I think you got it though."
"Expecto Patronum." The daughter of Aphrodite called once she got her wand back. Her first attempt produced a wisp of silver magic, but her second try shot a shimmery frog from the end of her wand.
"A frog?" Leo snickered.
"Shut up, Valdez."
"And come up here," I added. "You're next."
[A/N Yay I updated! This is just a filler chapter to get their magic a little more set in everyone's minds. Enjoy!]
