Chapter 4: A date?

Hinata was blooming that morning. It was a Saturday and for a weekend, he got up early and dressed up. Natsu wondered where his brother was off to, and only watched him pedal his bike out in the streets, with a big paper bag.

He went to straight to a flower shop where his classmate was working part time. “Kajiwara-san!” he greeted the girl in a bubbly way which the girl mirrored.

“Oh, Hinata-kun. Good morning! What made you go here this early?” she asks, the two of them returning each other’s flowery aura.

“Well, you see…” the ginger pushed his two index fingers shyly. “I’ve got a date…”

“Date? Oh, is that why you asked me about that yesterday? Congratulations, Hinata-kun” Kajiwara congratulated her classmate. Hinata swayed back and forth, sheepishly smiling at her, his hand making its way to the back of his head. “Hehe, thanks a lot, Kajiwara-san”

“So that’s why you came here this early? You’re going to buy flowers for you, aren’t you?” the blonde said ahead of him. “Don’t worry Hinata-kun! I’ll personally arrange a bouquet for you! You can count on me!”

“Really? Thanks a lot! But give me a discount on that okay?” Hinata snickered.

“Of course!” they laughed together. Kajiwara prepared a special arranged bouquet with various of flowers put in it. She handed it over to Hinata, not accepting his money, but made him promise he’ll tell the full details as payment. “Alright! Thanks a lot, Kajiwara-san! I’ll see you later!”

“Sure! Tell me if she liked them!”

Hinata proceeded to their destined meeting place. When he arrived, he saw Shimazaki patiently waiting at the bench in a cute floral dress paired with pink 2-inch heeled sandals. Of course, he found her cute – she is his crush after all. He was gaping at her for a moment, if only she didn’t call his attention, then he wouldn’t snap out of it at all.

“Mouu! You’re late! I was standing there alone for 10 minutes! Come in time will you?” complained Minami with a tint of pink on her cheeks. She noticed him still at awe. “S-Stop staring, will you? It’s embarrassing…”

“S-Sorry! U-Um here… these are for you” he gave him the bouquet he bought at Kajiwara’s flower shop.

“Y-You didn’t have to! A-And thanks…” the girl accepted it from him, obviously shy. Why wouldn’t she? This was her first date ever, and she has no idea what to do. Minami was staring down at a ground and forced herself to look up at Hinata only to see his eyes still glued on her. ‘He’s really staring…’

“Wow Minami-chan… I didn’t know you can dress this girly… ow!”

Shimazaki hit him at the head after he said that. “W-What does that mean?!” she questioned, offended.

Hinata rubbed his head. “Well, you’re so sporty so I thought you were the boyish type and don’t like cute things at all…” he admitted only to get hit at head again.

“That’s so stereotypical! Not all varsities are boyish you know! I feel offended for me and my teammates!” she stated, turning her back at him. “I hate you!” with that, she started to walk ahead, leaving Hinata.

“Eh? Minami-chan wait! I’m sorry!” the ginger ran after her, apologizing. “I didn’t mean to offend you! You’re cute in that dress okay? You’re super cute! Even if you don’t wear that dress! Whatever you wear, you’re still cute!” he shouted in a loud voice that was heard by everyone standing nearby.

Shimazaki looked around and shut her eyes for it was so ignominious. “I-I get it already you baka! Now shut up! Everyone’s looking!” she whispered, grabbing Hinata by the wrist and sprint away from there.  She dragged him inside the mall before setting him free and cross her arms in front of her B-cup chest. “Hmph!” she pouted.

“W-What’s wrong, Minami-chan?” Hinata wondered. “Don’t you like the flowers I gave you?” he asked idiotically. It made the girl shout at him again and stomped a few feet away from him.

‘Is he really an idiot?’

“Minami-chaaan! How are we supposed to go out if you’re far away from me?” Hinata called, grabbing her arm and hauled her towards him. She landed on his chest and was left staring up his intent amber eyes. He smiled at her. “You really are cute”

Kajiwara was surprised when an unexpected customer entered her family’s flower shop. Tsukishima was all dressed up in a blue polo and black shorts, his signature headphones not leaving his neck. Shinobu thought he looked kinda cool in casual clothes, too dumbstruck to even reply to him when he talked to her. “Oi Shinobu, are you even listening?” the middle blocker snapped his fingers in front of her face.

Shinobu shook her head and blinked. “S-Sorry Tsukishima-kun, what was that?” she said, that led to Tsukishima raising an eyebrow.

“’Tsukishima-kun’?” he furrowed his eyebrows, wondering why he wasn’t called ‘Tsukkin’. “I-I mean Tsukkin! Sorry, I was spacing out!” the girl reasoned, flustered. “A-Anyways what you were asking me?” she tried to change the subject. Tsukishima brushed it off and repeated what he said earlier.

“I asked if you’re free today. Let’s go out, it’s so boring at home” he said.

“G-Go out? Y-You mean like a date?” Shinobu assumed. Tsukishima kept a blank face. “Idiot, as friends. What drug did you take and you suddenly thought of me asking you out on a date?” he sneered, looking away. Kajiwara popped a vein and pouted. “Who knows, maybe I was referring to a friendly date! As if I’ll go on a romantic date with you, Tsukkin ahooo!!” she stuck her tongue out.

‘Idiot…’ the tall boy faced his back at her. “Are you free or not? I don’t think I can finish that sushi pack alone. Yamaguchi’s out buying supplies for our class” he tempted the girl with her favorite snack.

“Mouuu, fine! I’ll just go change upstairs!” Shinobu was convinced. She went upstairs to her main house and into her bedroom to change into casual wear.

Tsukishima leaned on the counter while waiting for her, and caught glimpse of a cute pink camellia sitting in a vase full of properly ordered flowers. It was so small that it stands out among the full bloomed flowers. Kei took it in his hands and stared at it admiringly.

“Sorry for the wait!” Kajiwara came back wearing brown leggings and a cute peach blouse, same color with her sandals. Tsukishima glanced at her frame and secretly stared at her for a good 5 seconds before turning back to the little flower in his hands.

“Your bangs are messy” he commented, hitting a vein at her head.

“And I expected you to call me cute!” she whined.

“Expect me to think you’re cute, not blurt it out”

“What?”

“Nothing, let’s get going” Tsukishima waved it off, walking towards her. He was standing in front of her as he stared down and she looked up. Their height difference was quite fair; Kajiwara was a tall girl; her height measuring to 178.52 cm. Kei fixed her bangs by combing it with his fingers and then put the camellia flower on top of her right ear. “There, all done”

He left her stunned and her heart beating fast. ‘W-What…’ Kajiwara blushed and stared at her childhood friend who already exited the flower shop.

“You really like cute things, ne Minami-chan?” Hinata observed as he and Shimazaki were window shopping. He kept getting dragged into shops that are for women – worst scenario was in an underwear store. Minami ignored his comment and continued to admire the displayed clothing at the window store.

“Huwah! That dress is so cute!” she cooed. “Ne, Hinata-kun, do you think I’ll look cute in that?”

“Yeah” Hinata just answered, bored of shopping. Shimazaki pouted and huffed, crossing her arms. “That’s what you always tell me! Just be honest and tell me what you really think!”

“I think you cute in any clothing, that’s what I think” Hinata stated, with a blunt face. His straight forwardness always made the girl caught off guard and flustered which she didn’t like. She turned around to hide her face and proceeded in walking only to hear her date complain. “Man, I didn’t know girls’ idea of date is boring…”

Minami sharply turned to him. “What does that mean?!” she shouted; Hinata flinched. “What I mean is; there are more fun things to do rather than window shopping!” he tells her. “Like arcades! Buying candies! Chatting and telling jokes to each other! Eating in fast foods! And of course, taking goofy photos for memories!” he listed while Shimazaki blinked at him with her mouth hanging open.

“U-Uh…” “C’mon! I’ll show you!”

Hinata grabbed Shimazaki’s wrist and went to their first destination; the first one he mentioned, the arcade. He dragged her to a virtual racing game which she didn’t know how to use. “You haven’t played this once?!” Hinata asked in disbelief.

“Well sorry for not knowing!” the soccer player blushed.

“It’s okay! I’ll teach you!” Hinata grinned and went to buy tokens and inserted it to the game machine to start playing. After several matches in the virtual car game, Shimazaki, who was losing miserably, finally surrendered, making Hinata laugh. “That’s okay Minami-chan, there are a lot of games here, like that!” he pointed to a JUST DANCE machine that was operated by the manager there. He pulled his crush over there and requested a song for them to dance along to.

“But I don’t know how this works!” Shimazaki objected, but actually didn’t want to dance in front of the public.

“It’s simple, you just follow the dancers on the screen and that’s it” Hinata oriented her. “C’mon, don’t be a kill joy, it’ll be fun!”

“But-” “It’s starting!” there was no point in protesting, Minami and Shoyo started the dance battle with many people huddling around them to watch. The girl started to get shy but when she saw how much fun Hinata was having, she was starting let loose as well.

As she moved with the music, she laughed along with Shoyo was pretty good in moving his hips. She found it hilarious when it reached to where they had to do a sexy dance that made it look like Hinata was gay.

The song ended; they were panting heavily out of exhaustion. Hinata handed Shimazaki his handkerchief for her to wipe of her sweat while he just used his arm to brush on his forehead.

“Wow, that was fun, wasn’t it?” Hinata grinned, turning to Minami who attacked him a hug. She raised her phone at them and smiled, “Say cheese!” she snapped a picture of them after they just danced. (No pun intended)

Hinata was caught off guard so the picture produced was: Shimazaki grinning at the camera while Hinata was just staring at her. “Whoa there, you almost gave me a heart attack” Hinata exhaled.

“What? You’re the one who said that we should take pictures for memories!” Minami pointed out, startling Shoyo. She smiled at him excitedly, her eyes sparkling. “Let’s go buy candies next!”
