Chapter 25: Misjudged Conversation
"What the hell was that all about?" Tsukishima growled, grabbing Ishinomori by the arm and letting go when they reach a deserted area of the school. Kikyou brought her hands to her chest and stared nervously at the irritated classmate in front of her. Kei sent her a glare. "Where the hell did that question came from? And how did you know?"
"Eh? Oh about Shinobu-chan---"
"It was Yamaguchi, wasn't it?"
"Tsukishima-kun---"
"I knew it."
Tsukishima's lingering rage was visible and you could tell he was ready to kill someone at that moment. Flapping her arms, Ishinomori was unsure how to stop him beheaded her beloved "Yamaguchi-kun" and to explain the reason why she asked him that question just now.
"T-Tsukishima-kun, please listen to me!" she snapped, slapping her hands on both of his cheeks to ease down his clenching jaws. It was the same technique her brother does to here whenever she panics or gets anxious.
It did the trick and Kei's eyes were all on hers, ears added. She gulped at the intensity of his golden pair, and looked down at her fidgeting hands, struggling to compose sentences or even words out of her mouth. "I-I... Trust... Promise..." she stuttered, feeling her whole body stiffen. "I-I won't tell Shinobu-chan..." she finally spurted, hoping she'd gain Tsukishima's trust.
"I-If you want... I-I'll tell you... who I like... too..." she offered but we all know she needn't to.
"Shino, it's obvious that you like Yamaguchi. There's no need for you to say it," Kei beat her to it before she could speak again.
Kikyou flinched and blushed deep red, embarrassed on how evident her feelings are. 'E-Even Tsu-Tsukishima-kun...? D-Do I really like... Y-Yamaguchi-kun?'
Tsukishima clicked his tongue and turned around. "This is stupid. I'm going back to the classroom," he announces and glanced over his shoulder at Ishinomori. "This conversation never happened, got it?"
"U-Uh, hai..."
Meanwhile, just as they were headed back to their room, Hinata who passed by and also knows the quiet area saw the two walk together. His jaw dropped upon seeing Tsukishima with a girl - a blushing girl to be exact, having the wrong impression. As he was still unrecovered from shock, he was questioned by some of his classmates when he reached their classroom.
And one was Kajiwara.
"Hinata-kun, what's up with your daze? Feel sleepy again?" the blonde asks him, tilting her head in curiosity.
Shoyo shakes his head, ruffling his spiky orange hair and looked at her. 'Oh right, Tsukishima's friends with Kajiwara-san right...?' "Kajiwara-san, do you know if Tsukishima likes someone?" he questioned out of nowhere, catching the girl by surprise.
"Eh? We never actually talk about it. Why?" She responded, growing eager.
Hinata moved his lips to the side. "Would anyone even like him?" he grunted to himself. 'That girl even has the courage to confess to him!'
"Hinata-kun, I'm asking you a question!"
"Eh? Sorry, what was that?"
Kajiwara pouted. "I'm asking about Tsukkin!"
"Tsukishima? Ah, well..." Hinata murmured, rubbing his head. "I saw him talking to a girl a while ago. They were in a secluded area, too... And it looked like she was blushing..."
"Eh? Girl? Secluded area? Blushing?" Shinobu listed; her mouth hanging as she spoke. Her eyes enlarged for a moment, and before Shoyo could respond, she already jumped in conclusions and screamed. "Someone confessed to Tsukkin?!"
"Oh, Kikyou," Shimazaki ran into the two class 4 students just as she was headed to her own classroom. Tsukishima caught her attention, and she started eyeing him from head to toe. 'Is this...?' her eyes trailed to Ishinomori who was still blushing. 'Ah, I get it...' she rubbed her chin and then placed a hand on the tall boy's shoulder. "Take care of her, okay?"
Kei's eyebrow creased, with a look of incredulity. "Ha?" he gaped, not understanding what the girl meant.
She gave Mori an 'ok' sign before leaving the misjudged couple to walk together in peace.
"What the hell was that all about?" Tsukishima wondered.
Kikyou shrugged clueless, and brushed it off, before proceeding to their classroom.
That lunch, Shinobu dashed straight to Class 4 where she saw, Tsukishima, Yamaguchi, Narahashi and Ishinomori talking among themselves. The girl stood in between her two childhood friends, and was giving weary glances at the bespectacled lad.
The blonde couldn't control herself and shouted at her three friends, inviting them to eat lunch together. Kei groaned, Tadashi agreed to her awkwardly, while Kikyou's mood was no better than to each lunch with them - with Yamaguchi-kun.
The four took a spot at the rooftop as they were encircled - Tsukishima, Ishinomori, Yamaguchi and Kajiwara seated respectively. Shinobu observed them closely. 'I'm surprised they joined us today... Wouldn't they want to be alone...?' she wondered, eyeing Kikyou who was pleasantly conversing with Tadashi.
Tsukishima ate his lunch in silence.
'Tsukkin seems quiet... did he want to spend the lunch hour with Kikyou-chan? Oh no! What if he gets mad at me again?! Stupid Shinobu!'
"Oh, Mori-san, those rice balls look good!" Yamaguchi commended as soon as Shino opened up her lunch box that contained the said snacks. She blushed, after receiving a praise from him and offered him some, hoping to know what he thinks of her cooking, "I-I made th-them myself... I-If you want..."
"Really? Thanks!" Tadashi openly accepted, and took a bite of her onigiri.
Tsukishima spared a curious glance that was noticed by both girls, so Kikyou gave him some. He thanked her quietly and enjoyed his meal.
'W-Was Tsukkin jealous of Tadashin?!' Kajiwara had crazy thoughts. Crazy thoughts.
"Would you like some too, Shinobu-chan?" the ravenette extended her bento to her co-worker.
Kajiwara gulped and took some. 'I-Is this okay? I'm pretty sure she made this for Tsukkin...' she hesitated, and peered at Tsukishima who made a remark, irking her.
"Yours taste better than Shinobu's."
"What?!"
Yamaguchi blinked. 'Tsukki's right though...' "It was delicious, Mori-san!" he preached, giving her a smile that she swoon over.
Kajiwara twitched and grabbed Yamaguchi's collar, hauling him away from the spot and into a corner where they privately spied on the two. "Tadashin..."
"What did you do that for, Shinobu?!" Yamaguchi complained, fixing the crumpled uniform he had because of his best friend's grip. He noticed her keenly ogling at his two classmates that were left at their spot, confused. "What's wrong, Shinobu?"
"They seem normal..." the blonde - idiot at the moment- commented as she watched Tsukishima ask for another rice ball from Ishinomori, and the girl openly granting him more.
They had small talk for a while, as Yamaguchi was caged silent at the corner. He was so lost at the moment. Shinobu was indeed acting weird and idiotic.
'I wonder where Shinobu-chan and Yamaguchi-kun went..."
'That Shinobu... what's she up to, this time?'
'Shinobu! Let me go back to Mori-san!!'
Thus, the fucked up love square began because of a misunderstanding that was initiated by a certain ginger boy, having a great time eating lunch with his crush.
"By the way, that was your teammate walking with Kikyou earlier, right?" Shimazaki started a conversation about the two earlier as they were having lunch together by the bench outside.
Hinata glances at her and remember the scene she saw. "Oh, you mean Tsukishima and that ghost-like girl?" he inquires.
"Ghost-girl? Her name is Kikyou," Minami informs him, not liking the term he used. The ginger smiles, "Oh, she's your friend right?" he confirms, remembering the incidents of last time.
Shimazaki shut her mouth, looking away. "S-Sort of..." she mumbled to herself before realizing. "Wait, did you say Tsukishima?"
Startled, Hinata nodded his head. "Yeah. The guy's name was Tsukishima," he replied to which the girl grew confused.
"Wait what? Kikyou said she liked that Yamaguchi," Shimazaki recalled; if her memory wasn't failing her. She specifically said the name 'Yamaguchi-kun' during their talk yesterday. She doesn't even think a guy like Tsukishima is Ishinomori's type. 'Besides... that guy... has a girlfriend, right?"
"Eh? Yamaguchi?!" Hinata reacted. "Well... I might be wrong when I thought Kikyou-san confessed to Tsukishima..."
"You idiot, you shouldn't jump to conclusions like that!" Shimazaki scolded him with a flick at the forehead. But she wasn't the one to talk. She, too, thought Kei and Kikyou was a thing now. But that was because she mistaken Tsukishima as Yamaguchi that her friend gushed over.
Now that she knows that Tsukishima wasn't the guy that caught Ishinmori's attention, she wondered who the actual guy she liked was. If he was cool or not. Perhaps cute? Or even charming?
Or maybe it was the freckles that Kikyou loved whenever she talked to him.
Shimazaki could imagine that it must've been a cool and nice guy, but whatever kind he is, he better make sure he'll make Kikyou happy.
But right now, it seems the misred confession hasn't been cleared out to the people who are deeply involved. And that includes: our four friends slash love square; Tsukishima Kei, Kajiwara Shinobu, and the two confirmed lovebirds, Yamaguchi Tadashi and Ishinomori Kikyou.
