Chapter 14: Forest Park

"Um... where was the way back again?" Hinata scratched his head trying to figure out the route they took from their spot. Shimazaki popped a vein and gave him a good punch at the head for being an idiot when really; she was the one who dragged them in this situation in the first place. "Don't get mad at me! I was only thinking in finding you! I-I didn't actually put thought on how to get you out of here..." he rubbed his head sheepishly, on the other hand, Minami's heart pounding like crazy, after hearing that from her courter. Not bothering to argue with him, she grabbed his arm and buried her face on it, demanding him to take her away from here.

"Kage..." Hisano cried in failure, her knees meeting the ground, her palms gripping on the ground beneath her. "W-We're lost..." Kikyou comforted the wailing brunette, rubbing her head soothingly on her back.

"Don't worry Sugimoto-chan, we'll get out of here soon." she said.

Successfully bringing the girl up to her knees, Ishinomori offered to lead the way since she was used to getting lost and finding her own way back. Eventually they made some progress because of the girl's good sense of direction. And afterwards, they ran into a 'couple' that brought loud arguments into the forest.

"Ya-Yamaguchi?!" Hinata and Shimazaki found the freckled boy roaming around the park, alone. It made him grow a bit of admiration towards him because of his bravery strolling around the woods, adding the fact it was already dark and it was hard to see around. "Wh-What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be with your class?"

"I should say the same to you, Hinata. I'm looking for my classmate, Ishinomori-san. She went missing hours ago and we still haven't heard of her." Tadashi pulled out his cellphone, waiting for a text from Kado, their class president. Well checking on his device was useless since there was no signal in the middle of nowhere. 'Damn...' it pissed him off, and grew more worried for Kikyou. "Are you two lost as well?" he asked.

Hinata nodded in response. "Yeah, Minami-chan ran in the forest so I went after her. But I didn't get to retrace my steps because I was focused on looking for her."

The taller boy smiled, "I guess she's special to you, huh? It's the same for me."

"So you like a girl named Ishinomori-san?" Hinata tilted his head to the side. Shimazaki recognized the name, growing a bitter frown on her face. 'Ishinomori...'

Yamaguchi blushed, looking away. "It doesn't matter. I need to look for her and then get out of this maze." he was about to leave when his teammate stopped him.

"Wait a second! Isn't it best if we stick and look for her together? I mean, we're both lost already." he suggested, blocking Tadashi's way. Easily, he was convinced and the three of them started to find their way around.

"Tch." Tsukishima gave a glare to his classmate whom they just cross roads with. Kajiwara called out to her two friends, Kageyama and Sugimoto. While the two 1-4 students just stared at each other silently, one was showing a look of annoyance and one of innocence.

"Ishinomori." the girl flinched at the call of her name. "We've been looking all day for you! Where the hell have you been?"

'E-Eh!' "U-Um... Tsukishima-kun, I was just exploring around-"

"Exploring around?! Don't you know how much trouble you gave us today? Don't be such a handful. Sensei, Narahashi, Yamaguchi and I have other things to do rather than searching for you. They've been worried sick and here you are adventuring around these areas." he scolded her, not even minding how remorseful she now looked.

"Tsu-Tsukishima-kun... I..." she was fidgeting her hands that became moist with guilt. Her conscious was stricken, and she couldn't form up words to make up an apology. "I... I'm..." tears sprawled out her eyes without her knowing.

"T-Tsukkin! That's enough" Kajiwara halted, backing her friend away. "U-Um, Ishinomori-san, right? Sorry, don't mind Tsukkin. He's just upset because we're lost and it's already dark..."

"You two are lost too?" Sugimoto interrupted.

"Obviously." Tsukishima sneered at her.

'Someone's cranky...'

"Oi, don't talk to her like that." Kageyama sent him a glare, standing in front of his girl. The tension grew between the two of them, and the night owl wasn't helping at all. The trees' branches dominated the view, making it hard for them to look at the moon that was the only source for their light. Shinobu was the one who stopped them before things get worse. Luckily she was able to tame the two tall lads for now, making Kikyou lead the way with Hisano assisting her.

"You shouldn't have talked to her that way." Kajiwara took the chance to scold her best friend, only to be replied by a: "Shut up." "Tsukkin! I'm serious here! She cried because of you. You should know how to delicate girls like her."

"I don't even talk to her all the time. Who cares?"

"Seriously!"

And after a while, they finally found their way back their site. There they saw their batch mates already doing barbecue, some readying for some stargazing. Kageyama and Sugimoto went back to their section, and Kajiwara parting ways with Tsukishima, leaving him to walk with Ishinomori alone.

"U-Um... Tsukishima-kun, I'm really sorry for troubling you. I-I didn't mean for you to be bothered by me... I... I have no excuse." Ishinomori sent her apologies to Tsukishima who was a few feet ahead of her in walking. He didn't respond to that, instead, just told her to hurry up before their adviser calls the cops for a search. And fortunately, she didn't, for she was stuck up in readying her telescope for stargazing tonight. The blonde was glancing around, looking for his childhood friend, Yamaguchi, which was yet to come back for him, together with Hinata and Shimazaki, just found a long route back to their sight. The girl who was with him, also notice the absence of the freckled classmate, and built up the guts to ask if he too was involved in searching for her.

"Tsu-Tsukishima, d-did Yamaguchi-kun... look for me as well?" she asked wearily.

"Didn't I tell you a while ago?"

"S-Sorry!"

Speaking of which, the three successfully got back to the site, with one of the teachers catching them sneaking out and got scolded. They were instructed to go back to their respective sections, and soon Yamaguchi rejoined with his class, and finally was able to see Ishinomori.

"Mo-Mori-san!" he automatically trapped her in a hug as soon as he saw her, holding her close in his arms as if he wanted her to stay there forever. Shocked, Kikyou wasn't able to process what just happened and by sense, just returned the gesture. She let his head rest on her shoulders while her hands laced around his back. "Where were you? I was worried sick you know! You could've been in danger! It isn't safe here you know!" it was understandable why he was scolding her. He was deeply perturbed the whole time she wasn't around. And now the excuse he got was she was just sight-seeing. The frown on his face didn't leave the whole night.

It reached during their stargazing activity, him not talking to the girl at all. Ishinomori was left standing beside Tsukishima who didn't give the slightest fuck about the lover's quarrel but felt like he needs to do something about. "Oi, Shino." he called the anxious driven girl who flinched at the stern voice of his. "Go talk to him and say sorry. You can't imagine how upset he was." he told her, without sparing a glance.

She, too, didn't have the courage to face him but somehow considered his suggestion. Without saying a word, she stretched out her legs to stand up and walk over to where Yamaguchi was seated; just on the grassy field that was mostly occupied by their batch mates, accompanied by their teachers.

"Yamaguchi-kun..." called the girl, poking his sides slightly. She was still scared at him, still edgy to open up a conversation. "I'm truly sorry for what I did. I didn't know how worried you were until Tsukishima-kun reprimanded me for not minding it. Same with Narahashi-kun and sensei... I've already got an earful from them, but... not receiving any from you really troubles me." by now, she buried her face in her chest as she hugged her knees, sitting right next to Tadashi.

The boy didn't say anything and pulled her head to lean on his chest, his face buried in her hair to cover up the crimson shade on his dotted cheeks. "Just stay here with me, let's make up all those hours and search for constellations." he says before giving her a smile as she looks up at him. "Okay?"

She returned the smile with a blush on her cheeks. "Okay!" and there, the whole year level enjoyed their picnic trip at the forest park, eating barbecue and admiring the stars that shone above them.
