Chapter 12: Missing Girl

"You made it." Shimazaki breathed out, surprised to see Hinata attending the school picnic held in Dainohara Forest. The day before were their midterms, and everyone who failed the tests weren't allowed to join the official activity. But with the presence of Shoyo, it was enough to confirm that he did pass the exams without getting tutored by any other student.

The boy turned around to see Minami staring at him with slight widened eyes. "How is that?" she asked, together with an imaginary arrow piercing through her courter's chest.

"That hurts you know, Minami-chan!!" pouted the middle blocker, bringing his face close to the soccer player. Shimazaki pushed him away.

"Well with your intelligence, I'd be really surprise that you could attend today." she snarled, showing annoyed eyes at the poor ginger.

As the two fought once again, Sugimoto was searching for a certain classmate of hers, hoping that her hours of teaching him Math and Science were all worth it. Her face brightened up when she saw Kageyama staring up the trees, wearing his PE uniform, and sitting on one of the benches there, alone. She immediately approached him, waving her hands and calling his name. "Kage!!" Kageyama's neck turned to her, his face instantly flushed as he caught sight of her. "I'm so glad you passed!"

Tobio bowed his head, not wanting to show his embarrassed face. "Yeah... i-it's all thanks to you... Sugi-san..." he says with low voice.

"Well, what're you waiting for? Let's go explore the forest!!" The eager 15 year old girl squealed like she was ten years younger, dragging her friend along into the mount of trees standing around the park. Their class was still preparing for the activity, so their homeroom teacher hadn't check their attendance yet therefore didn't know they had gone elsewhere in the mountains.

"Shinobu!" Narahashi called Kajiwara while she was grilling the meat on the barbecue grill brought by her adviser. All of the first year classes were busy in readying the food that it'll make you wonder on how the class 4 president still able to tell that someone in his section is missing.

"What is it, Narahashi-kun?" Shinobu asked, looking up at him and holding a fan.

"Sorry for interrupting, but have you seen a girl with long black hair anywhere? She walks in a weird way and is wearing a tennis cap." The responsible teen gave some details, in hopes that the girl from class 1 had seen Ishinomori, who, mysteriously disappeared off to some place again. This wasn't the first time she'd done this

Of course Kado can prove it since he's known her ever since in middle school. They were classmates, and also neighbors that make them see each other a lot.

"Sorry, I haven't seen anyone." replied the girl, fanning the pork.

"I see. Please tell me if you see her." Was Narahashi's request before running off to ask other people if they saw Kikyou somewhere. The thing he's worried about is, no one seeing her because of her low presence and uninteresting atmosphere. She was always the type people never paid attention to; with the exception of three boys, Narahashi, Tsukishima and Yamaguchi who got dragged into searching for their classmate.

'Seriously, that girl never fails to trouble me... she and that goose...' Tsukishima complained as he peeked through the bushes, the most cliché hiding spot ever thought of an average person. The frown never left his face the whole time he went looking for her. Yamaguchi stole a glance from him and sighed; continuing to call out for Ishinomori, hoping her voice would respond.

'I wonder where Mori-san is...' the freckled boy started to worry about the girl who was staring at the squirrels sitting on the branches above.

She gaped on how cute they are and followed them as they climbed away, unknowingly getting led further deep into the forest. "You're so cute~" she dazed off, walking through a pathway she's never been to before. The longer she examined her surroundings, the more she became relaxed, not realizing she was lost. "Nature is so beautiful~"

"GAH! STUPID BUGS! I HATE THE OUTDOORS-"

"You're the one who wanted to explore the woods"

Sugimoto once again slapped a mosquito trying to get a sip of her blood. Several red marks were left on her skin that started to itch around her body and grow a rash. "Did you put on outdoor lotion?" Tobio questioned pulling out a bottle and gave her some. "Here" with that, the girl thanked him for being a boy scout and started to spread the cream throughout her skin. Of course, you know what happens to Kageyama when she does things like this. He lowered his head so his bangs could cover his eyes to avoid showing how keen they are on her.

After applying some, Sugimoto urged Kageyama to come with her in a place where she heard was haunted. Although scared, the boy had no choice but to come along with her. Firstly because he didn't know his way around, second, Hisano seemed like she knew her way around so it'll be stupid to part with her, and lastly important, it's his chance to be alone with her in a beautiful place like this.

The first moments of their walk were quiet. Tobio just stuck his gaze on the ground, comprehending on what topic to talk about. Hisano snuck glances at him, waiting for him to start a conversation, which she was used to by now.

'He looks troubled...' she noticed. 'Maybe I should say something?' there was a short debate in both of the two's minds. But just as they were ready to speak, they've already reached their destination where several tales has been told about a girl disappearing in the woods and last thing that was seen of her was her ribbon that was tied on to a tourist terrace just in front of a waterfall.

"Hey Kage, do you know the story of this balcony?" Sugimoto asked, leaning on the railings and examining the rocky terrain just below the structure. Kageyama just gave his attention to her, fully acknowledging the story she was about to tell. "Years ago, when a group of youngsters went to camp out here, a couple that used be best friends broke up on the last night of their camp outing. They say it was because the girl caught her boyfriend cheating on her with one of their friends in the group and it happens to be one of her close friends.

"Hurt, the girl who was dumped by her boyfriend ran into the woods as fast as she can, wanting to escape the harsh reality that was presented in front of her. She actually saw them kissing and doing... that. When she confronted them about it, they boldly proclaimed that it was true, putting salt on the girl's wound. Anyway, that night she ran, she never came back the morning after"

"The next day, her friends went looking for her. They called and asked help from the police for they couldn't see her because of how large this forest is. Until the 9th day of their search, the police officials found the ribbon she always wore on her hair, tied up on this very railing..."

A short pause was expressed when Sugimoto gloomily stared at the said metal, her hand caressing it. "Did you know what they saw on the blood-stained ribbon?" she asked in a sinister voice. Kageyama's skin hair stood as goose bumps invaded his system. The girl that he liked gave him a creepy smile. "From the railing, there was her lifeless body swaying with the ribbon used as a rope. She hung herself at this very spot and folks around; especially travellers said that they still see her soul wandering around the area, looking for a way back to her loved one..."

By now, Kageyama was quivering like a new born baby lamb. He couldn't take the chilly air breezing around them. He was so scared that he wanted to hug her but she looked scarier than any other ghost roaming around the forest.

Sugimoto laughed internally. She was enjoying that fact that she was able to frighten her classmate successfully. But just as she was reaching the climax of her story-"And they say every time a person sees her-"

"That person vanishes not leaving a single trace..."

That was not Hisano's voice that finished the story. It was a hushed ominous stone that even got the brunette stiffening. On the other hand, Kageyama dead frozen upon seeing the scary looking woman with long black hair covering her face, standing right behind Sugimoto. Her head had a trail of blood gushing out of her nose and multiple scratches on her arms, with her dress all dirty and a few cuts.

"G-GAHHHHH!!!!" screamed the two, scurrying away from the girl as she walks after them.

"W-Wait-"'She can speak?!' Hisano and Tobio stopped when they heard her voice asking for help. "H-Help me... please..." pleaded the girl.

"Huh??" Sugimoto crossed her eyebrows together while jaw dropping. "Wait a minute-a Karasuno PE uniform?!" she recognized the sweatpants and the white shirt.

"H-Hai. M-My name is Ishinomori Kikyou, it's nice to meet you..." the girl whom they thought was a ghost is now bowing down to them, politely.

"BUT WHERE THE HECK DID THAT BLOOD CAME FROM?!"

...

"I see, so you were following some squirrels and ended up down there and hit your head on a branch..." Kageyama cleared the long story Ishinomori has narrated to them. "But... how on earth did you climb up from there...?" he wondered.

The girl blinked innocently while Sugimoto put some first aid on her scratch at the forehead. The three of them sat on three big rocks just by some trees in the forest. Kikyou explained that there was a ribbon tied up on the railing and use that as a rope to climb up. It made the two freak out and drag themselves out of that area. 'W-Wait... who-who are these people...'

As they reach the peak of the forest, both Sugimoto and Kageyama caught their breaths before noticing Ishinomori taking breaths from her inhaler. They figured she had asthma and deeply regretted on hauling her like that. Tobio let her sit on a log for a while before asking the brunette their whereabouts.

"Honestly, I don't know." Hisano showed a peace sign.

"Oh Hinata-kun there you are. I've been looking all over for you." Kajiwara popped out of nowhere, interrupting the argument between Hinata and Shimazaki. The two stopped from yelling and glanced at the tall girl. "Sensei's looking for volunteers in cooking, and I need you to assist me." she placed a box of ingredients on the short boy's arms making him almost fall on the ground. She turned around and proceeded back to their class' station before noticing her childhood friend walking through the trees.

'Kei...?' with Hinata following after her while chatting with Shimazaki who decided to tag along, Shinobu went after Kei, leaving her classmate behind. The ginger noticed because his attention was all on Minami, lately realizing that he just got ditched.

"E-Eh?! What am I supposed to do with these now?!"

"Idiot, then you do the cooking."

"I don't know how!!!"

"Idio.t"

The pixie-cut haired face palmed before dragging Hinata to his section and there offered help with their grill since she has nothing to do anyway.

"Oh, I wonder where Kajiwara-san went off to..." Hinata wondered, looking at the forest where six certain high school students are currently roaming around. While the class 4 president just walked around asking if they found Ishinomori the current missing girl.
