Sixteen

I looked at Jungkook blankly and he nodded, "Come on, Bee, think about it," He said calmly, "Think about what we have been talking about," He was clearly trying to help me use my head.

"Why is she so dumb," Yoongi sighed, rubbing his hand down his face.

Daisy smacked his arm, "She's scared, stop it!"

"Scared?!" Yoongi hissed, "Why the fuck is she scared?! She's been here her whole life!"

"Because they've never gotten into my house before!" I snapped at him, "This is my family home, my safe haven, and I'm hiding in my father's bedroom!" I felt tears well up in my eyes, "I don't know what to do because he's not here to help me. He's always known what to do and taught me how to handle every situation, but now he's not here, something new has happened and I have people I need to protect, but all I want is my Dad! All I want is to be with him and for him to tell me it's okay and that he knows what to do and can teach me!"

I wasn't very loud, but the three people in the room went silent. I wiped at my tears angrily and turned my back. I felt a hand at my shoulder and assumed it was Daisy, but when a muscular arm gently wrapped around me, I was shocked to see that it was Jungkook.

He had been so afraid and I had been so strong, but it seemed that we had switched positions.

"I'm sorry," He said quietly, "I didn't think. You're going through all of this nightmare, and you've only just lost your father. Now you're in his room surrounded by things that remind you of him, I'm so sorry,"

I took a deep breath, leaning into his chest briefly, before pulling away. Now wasn't the time. There were multiple footsteps around the lower floor of my home, and we had to figure out how to stay safe.

"Sorry, Bee," Daisy stood up as well and gave me a tight hug.

"What's your plan, Jungkook?" I said quietly, turning to look at him.

He smiled a little, "Well, fire, of course. If you don't mind, we can make torches out of the table legs and that will keep us safe,"

Yoongi nodded enthusiastically, "Let's face it," He said, "That shotgun won't do shit, it's just there to make you feel better,"

I looked down at the gun I had leaned against the wall and frowned, "My Dad shot a Lurker once. It didn't kill it, but it slowed it down enough for us to get inside. You're being more of an asshole than usual, Yoongi, and that's saying something,"

"He's scared, too," Daisy said, "It's not an excuse, but... We all need to take a deep breath and calm down. I think Jungkook's plan is a good back up plan, but if we stay quiet, we should be okay up here, right?"

"Well, they haven't come upstairs, yet," Jungkook said, "But we can't rule it out," He turned to me, "Is it okay if we use the legs from the table?"

I looked over at my Dad's bedside table. It was a sturdy looking piece of furniture and I didn't want to break it, but if it meant protection against the Lurkers, I would do it.

After taking another deep breath, I nodded. Daisy carefully cleared the table of the pictures and lamp and Jungkook and Yoongi turned it upsidedown to get at the legs.

"Good," Jungkook muttered, "They're screwed on. We won't have to break it and make unnecessary noise," He turned to me, "Is there any way you could find some old clothes you don't mind being torn up and burned?"

I headed to my father's step-in wardrobe and sighed. His clothes were neatly folded and I didn't really want to disturb the piles. As I walked through, so many memories hit me just from seeing his shirts, but as I came to the back, I found some shirts that would be okay to ruin. They looked like the had never even been worn.

I picked up the pile and carried them out to the guys, who had already taken each sturdy leg from the table.

"Thanks," Jungkook smiled, taking the pile from me.

"One problem," Yoongi said, "We don't have any fuel that will make these stay on fire. They're just going to burn,"
