Chapter 30: I guess I just need a sign part 1

Charlie:

I wish I didn't have to go to this dance but I do. My parents are going, they donated some computers to the school and they needed to make an appearance plus mom and dad would make it a huge thing if I skipped it. Putting on my green tie that matched my light green button down with my dark black and green striped suit, thoughts of Hannah and how I wanted to beg to make her stay the day she came over. In a whirlwind of emotions staring at her brown eyes and pink soft lips, touching her, kissing her gave me goose bumps all the time. Matt asked so many questions when she left, I tried ignoring him but he kept pestering me until I broke down and told him everything. He told that if I really loved her, I should get her back. However, I don't know if she wanted me to fight for her. "Get your head out of your ass and use your heart," Matt had said before punching my arm hard. Matt left last night for his job, telling us that he will be back before the year ended.

I checked myself in the mirror to see if everything is straightened and iron so my mom doesn't come in here complaining that I'm wearing wrinkled clothes. "Oh, sweetie you look so handsome," mom gushed while she was standing in the doorway. She's always excited by these events, because of the free gifts especially alcohol. Chocolate brown hair, green eyes and slender, people complimented her on her beauty.

"Thanks mom," I answered.

"My little boy is growing up," she exclaimed, grabbing my cheeks and placed two sloppy kisses on it.

"Mom!" I complained and wiped my face.

"Honey, don't embarrass him. Looking good, champ," my dad gave me thumbs up. "Thanks Dad." He's not so talkative but gave small and sage advice.

"By the time you know it, it'll be your prom. Then ten or fifteen years from now, your wedding," she choked up when she said the last word of her sentence.

"Mom, don't cry, I'm still your little boy until college." I laughed and she hit my arm playfully. "So son, who's the lucky gal?" Dad asked, not wanting to say her name.

"Madeline."

"Is she pretty?"

"Yeah."

"Do you think she's the one for you?" Mom asked, nudging my arm.

"Lori, stop," dad said.

"George, I'm just curious. So is she?"

I didn't want to disappoint mom that it's not serious so I told her "we are seeing things where it goes."

She nodded, "if she is then you should go for it and make it permanent." I shuddered mentally but smiled regardless of her delusion. The doorbell rang and mom get excited, skipping down the stairs.

"Son, quick advice: don't lead this girl on if you don't like her. Girls hold grudges." Dad advised sternly, patting me on the shoulder.

"Yes sir, thank you," he nodded and went out my room. I sighed deeply and grabbed the orange corsage from my nightstand, heading downstairs. Spotting Madeline, my parents, and two other adults with her, I hesitated to go meet them and wave them a hello. I thought I was supposed to pick her up.

"Charlie, hi. You ready to go?" I heard Madeline ask. In her light green, strapless poofy dress that reached to her knees and hair up in a bun, she looked pretty.

"Yeah, you look really nice." I gestured to her dress.

"Thank you," she smiled and made a model turn for all of us. She introduced me to her parents, who are going to the dance as well. Her parents were talking to mine for a while and then we took pictures for a group photo, slapping a superficial smile on my face. After an upteen amount of pictures Madeline pulled my hand out the door and outside the stretched limo and we were on our way.

Hannah:

Arriving at the dance, I felt a little anxious. When me and Linda were shopping, she wanted us to wear matching dresses but I refused and picked a black, loose corset dress that reached to my knees and black low heels. She picked a one strap, dark orange halter dress with black heels. Louis picked me up; he looked really handsome in a grey button down shirt with his black suit. He kissed me on the cheek when he came. Mom and dad came home the day before from their trip, mom insisted that we take a picture to preserve our memory and we did. They were supposed to come, but were so jetlagged and decided to stay in. I met Linda and Edward near the punch bowl in the gym at the school, they looked like the perfect couple standing there laughing with each other.

The gym's Halloween-esque decorations of orange, light brown, dark green and black streamers, pumpkins and pumpkin cider, candy corn, black and orange food and drinks. I let out a breath shakily, a cold thing happening to my stomach when I felt weird. Louis laced my hand with his, warming my chill hand and I smiled up to him. "You okay?" he furrowed his eyebrows, I simply nodded.

"Dude, what's wrong?" Linda asked concerned.

"Nothing, maybe I'm just feeling sick or something."

"No you're not; you're just saying that because you're in a dress. Suck it up." She scolded She was partially right, when I wear dresses I felt exposed showing my legs.

Louis told me "you look beautiful."

"Thank you."

"I have this feeling that something might happen."

"Good or bad?" I heard Edward asked.

"I don't know. I guess I just need a sign." I'm not a skeptic or anything, but it's just something in my gut that something could happen. The dance began in full swing, students dancing and grinding but the chaperones, had to separate them threatening that they could be suspended. The gym is a sea of orange and black, some wore red and yellow and green. The couple in green stood out as they danced to the slow music of 'Someone Like You' by Adele. Noticing that it's Charlie and Madeline. They seemed happy, her with a giddy grin and him with a content smile on her face. At least he's having fun but it made my blood boil.

"You wanna dance?" Asked Louis diverting my attention from them.

Since this is my favorite song, I answered "sure."
