Chapter 29: Bye

Hannah:

I stood in the doorway, not wanting to be rude and pretend i've never been here before. It took all of my willpower to come here after our conversation at school We have to finish this project and then ignore each other like we never met.

"You don't have to stand out there. Come in and have a seat." His brother pulled me by the wrist as we made our way into the living room of his house. A very modern and simple vibe: black couch, wood coffee table, 70' inch flat screen, picture frames of the family and brown recliner. Reminiscing of the one time that we made out on his couch for like fifteen seconds, his mom came home early and I had to hide under his couch. "Do you want anything to drink?" He asked me, taking me out of my dream state.

"Uh, just water thanks." I answered, giving him a small smile, we both entered the light green kitchen. He went into the fridge and handed me a bottle of water.

"So how do you know my brother?" He asked.

"We're partners in English."

"Really? I didn't think he was the type of person to work with."

"Well, I don't know much about him." I lied with a shaky laugh.

Opening I took a sip of the cool water, replenishing my dry throat, he leaned over the counter on his elbows and asked "Have I seen you before?" with narrowed eyes at me.

"Have you?" I teased jokingly in the same manner and expression he gave, causing him to grin smugly. Recognizing his blue eyes and grin anywhere, the guy that flirted with me at the party.

"You were at that party I think a month ago?"

"Matt?" I pointed out. "You asked if I was in college."

"Yeah, nice to see you again. If you get tired of Charlie, you can hang out with me sometime," he winked. I can't handle a Charlie look alike but he seemed nice enough, even though he's older.

"I'm seeing someone," I told him, thinking of Louis.

"He's probably just a boy, you need a man," he smiled and I couldn't help but laugh at his attempt at flirting. He started to laugh too.

"Hannah," I heard a voice behind me and saw Charlie heading toward us. He had that cute bed head look going for him like he just woke up as he glared at his brother.

I shouldn't think of him being cute right now, I should be mad or at least lukewarm "Charlie," I smiled tightly as he made his way closer into the kitchen.

"Look who finally came to grace us with his presence, Prince Charles," he bowed to him; I giggled lightly at his action.

"Funny, Matt. Shouldn't you be somewhere or something?" Charlie asked coldly.

"I'm in my parents' house, that's somewhere," he retorted back. Charlie's blank stare matched Matt's smirk. Matt rolled his eyes, "I'll leave you guys then. No sex on the counter." My eyes widened. He skipped out, actually skipped out the kitchen. I snorted a little then blew out air from my mouth I look to Charlie who is staring at me.

"What are you doing here?" he asked very rudely, breaking the silence.

"We need to work on our book report," I said, trying not to raise my voice.

"Well I don't feel like doing anything."

"We need to. Unlike you, I care about my education." I lifted my bag strap on my shoulder from the heaviness.

"So what? I care about my education."

"Yeah right, you absentmindedly switched classes to be with me."

"At least I did something for us."

"If I tried to do something for you, you shoot it down so quickly."

"Whatever," he said simply crossing his arms over his chest. I sighed deeply, shaking my head.

"Do you want to start on the book?" I asked changing the subject, I want to punch him.

"No, I haven't read anything further. You want to go to my room, my book is up there." He wanted me to go to his place of sleep? Can he even stand being in a closed area with me?

"Why can't you just bring your book down here and we can work on where you are?" I suggested nervously.

"Don't worry, no fighting. Just us being study partners, ok?"

"Ok," I nodded as I followed him up his spiral stairs. "Your parents at work?" I asked trying to end the awkward tension building between us.

"Yeah, they had to see some big client that might make their quota or something," he responded rather dully as we inched closer to his room. His parents know plenty of people, because they own one of the biggest computer companies in Maryland. I think it's called Valco or Vectro, either one they made plenty of money. Selling products from phones, computers and interns making the newest apps. He opened the door inviting me in, I looked around and the room's a mess. Clothes, soda and shoes on the floor, his bed disheveled and the TV is on low volume to a program I didn't recognized. I turned to him, he's still standing so I sat on the bed softly, pulling out my book from my bag and going to the chapter that I left off.

"So, Mr. Rochester and Jane just got together and he wants to marry her but he's still hiding a secret. What do you think about that?" I asked. Knowing how she felt when a guy she loved won't open up. Looking up to him pacing around in the room muttering and running his hand through his hair.

He stopped and then looked at me with an expression that I can't make out. "What's wrong?" I asked worried, no response. It was a mistake coming here; "I shouldn't have come," shaking my head in regret I started to gather my things, heading out the door but his hand on my wrist halted my steps.

"I don't want you to leave," he said lowly, I looked down at his hand on mine. Shivers filled up my body, trying to ignore it but when he touched me it always happen.

"Charlie-"

"I'm sorry for being so rude to you. I didn't mean it."

I shook my head,"It's just exes being exes, it's fine," I laughed sheepishly not wanting to make eye contact with him. I might melt right here on his floor.

"If it's fine, then why aren't you looking at me?"

"I'm just envisioning you on the floor. I know how you look like." Still staring at his shoes while his thumb brushed the back on my hand, pulling me into him closer I held my breath, he lifted my chin up but my gaze is still on the floor.

"Han, look at me," my eyes raising slowly, his clear blue crystal eyes reflecting mine it just piercing through my soul.

"Why did you really come here?" he questioned huskily.

"To f-f-finish our project," I stammered out. Inhaling sharply as he brushed my cheek with his thumb. I glanced at his lips wanting to kiss him, not again.

"Are you sure about that?" Our lips hovering, as close as ever. His mouth met mine rough but sweet. In sync, melding together like chocolate syrup with vanilla ice cream. My heart beating in a rampage I wrapped my arms around his neck. Getting more intense, our tongues massaging softly. He grabbed my thighs lifting me up to pin me against the wall, I love him so much. The air in my lungs taken, tracing of his lips to my neck.

"I miss you," I moaned slightly.

"I miss you too. I'm so sorry," nibbling my neck, his mouth back on mine; kissing me roughly he removed me off the wall, walking to the direction of his bed. The soft mattress on my back took me to paradise, knees on the both side of my hips he ran his fingers through my hair; I pulled on his soft but rugged mane. His finger tracing lines on my stomach almost lifting my shirt off.

"Hey Charlie, do you want- whoa!" Charlie jumped off me immediately, I pulled my shirt down. My face flushed red in embarrassment, I hid behind my hands. Oh my gosh, if Matt didn't come in we could have gone further. "If or when you guys are done, I ordered Chinese takeout. Hannah, you're more than welcome to stay for dinner or for bedtime," Matt laughed, he left the room and closed the door. Finger combing my hair to to catch my breath from that heated moment, I avoided looking at Charlie but I snuck a peek. He's on his feet straightening his jeans, hair still messy from me roughing it up.

"Uh, wow," I exhaled finally, thinking of something else to say but come up blank.

"Yeah. Hannah, I really am sorry for everything. I don't regret us." I nodded; tears forming in my eyes. I really shouldn't have come here; looking at him still hurts. The kiss we just had shown how much I love him but he can't keep running me in circles with his emotions.

"I get it, but you don't have to say hateful things to me to push me away. If we can't be friends or at least acquaintances, how can we move on?" He just shrugged unknowingly. That's all he can do? At least he didn't mean his cruel words.

"I'm gonna go," I pushed myself off the bed and grabbed my backpack.

"Wait you don't wanna stay for dinner?" his voice stopping me from opening the door, sounding hopeful.

"No, I have to get home. Since we didn't study maybe you can call me or something and we can talk about the chapters," I suggested.

"That sounds good. Let me walk you out." He opened the room door for me; we walked down the stairs in silence, stealing glances from each other as we went to the front door.

Matt asked "dinner Hannah?"

"No. I have to head home."

"Some other time then?"

"Maybe," giving him a small wave, I turned the doorknob to open the door. "Bye," I said. Nodding with no smile he leaned forward, kissing me on the cheek lips lingered on my skin I closed my eyes to savor it. He removed his lips, staring into each other in the eyes noses touched.

"Bye," I said again backing away and from his house, wanting to cry all over again. Sucking it up I continued with my head held high. What we had, it could be a sign for something better or something that I need to watch out for.
