20. What Lies Beneath

Luke sat in the Salvatore's living room, chanting, while Damon stood by the drinks, keeping an eye on the warlock, while making himself a drink, getting annoyed with Luke's lack of progress, Damon grabbed a ice cube and threw it at his face.

"That's not helping" an annoyed Luke said, as Stefan and Brayden entered the room, both confused as to why Luke was here.

"Well, you've been failing now for an hour wonder twin, so at this point I can't imagine it's hurting" Damon taunted, throwing another ice cube at Luke.

"Damon, I know you're out a friend but I'm not sure this guy's the best replacement" Stefan said.

"I don't think this guy's the best anything if his locator spell skills are any indication" Damon retorted, eating a ice cube, "Yo, where's your sister?".

"She's tired of being almost murdered" Luke snapped, opening his eyes and glaring at Damon, "Look, I can find any person anywhere on the planet, okay? There's just something weird with your friend Enzo, I can't get a read".

"Enzo?" Brayden asked, hoping his brothers didn't sense his sudden panic, "I thought he left town and went to Cape Horn".

"He flipped his humanity switch" Damon reminded, "There should have been a body count all the way to the airport".

"Oh" Brayden mumbled, walking over to the drinks and pouring himself a glass of bourbon and downing it in one go.

"Why are you looking for him?" an annoyed Stefan asked.

"Gee, I don't know, Stefan" Damon said, "A vampire with no humanity who wants me dead for killing his girl".

"Is it possible that Enzo hired a witch to hide himself from Luke's locator spell?" Brayden suggested, really wanting his brother to stop looking for Enzo.

"Is that possible?" Stefan wondered.

"A cloaking spell?" Luke asked, "I guess".

"Meaning Enzo doesn't want anyone to find him" Brayden said, looking at his twin, "So why don't you stop looking for him?".

Before Damon could say anything, a panicked Tyler rushed into the boarding house, "We have a problem".

Tyler sat on the couch and explained to the brothers and Luke what he saw, "Markos turned Sloan into a vampire, had her drink Brayden and Kaitlynn's blood and after some chanty ritual thing, she turned human again".

"He cured her?" a shocked Damon asked.

"He cured her to death" Tyler clarified, "The blood took her vampirisim, left her in the state she was in just before she turned".

"That state being dead, got it" Stefan said.

"So it kills vampires" Luke realised, "What does the spell mean for the witches?".

"No one cares about you witches" Brayden snapped, before turning to Tyler, "You keep going".

"The point is that they feel if they get rid of all magic, they'll break some lame ass witch curse" Tyler revealed.

"Markos said they can't settle anywhere without evoking earthquakes or hellfire" Damon remembered, "If they break that curse, they just move right on in to Mystic Falls".

"And come after Kaitlynn and Brayden today" Stefan concluded.

"Probably right now" Brayden realised,

"Oh, well" Damon said, "Markos had a good week or two in the land of the living", Damon looked at Tyler, "Now, where is he so I can kill him?".

"No idea" Tyler informed, "They were moving camp when I got out".

Brayden looked at Luke, "This is your opportunity to prove that you really a genius when it comes to locator spells".

"Travelers are always moving, they're impossible to track" Luke stated, "They'll find you and Kaitlynn long before we can find them".

"Well, what about one of those locator spell blocker deals?" Damon asked, "Is that simple enough for you?".

"If both Brayden and Kaitlynn are in the same place, yeah" Luke said.

"Great" Brayden said, he looked at Tyler, "You, your job today is to avoid the entire Czech language and figure out where the travelers and Markos have gone to".

"How am I supposed to do that?" Tyler asked.

"Well, you have a traveler inside of you" Damon reminded, "I mean, I probably have misplaced faith that you'll figure it out", Damon then turned to Brayden, "Meanwhile, you and I and our ex-girlfriend are gonna go on a little secret trip", Damon then turned to Stefan, "While you and your girlfriend stay here and help Tyler in figuring out where Markos and his gang is".

"Oh lovely" Brayden said sarcastically, having a feeling this trip was going to end in a disaster.

"This is one of the stupidest ideas you could have come up with" Kaitlynn snapped, getting out of the car and going to the back to help Brayden with their bags.

"Okay, first of all, this wasn't my idea, it was your ex-boyfriend's" Brayden defended.

"You're my ex-boyfriend as well" Kaitlynn retorted.

"Your current ex-boyfriend" Brayden clarified, "And plus what was I supposed to say to him? No Damon, you, me, Kaitlynn and Caroline can't spend however nights we need to in Caroline's dad's cabin because I killed your best friend and Kaitlynn's keeping that secret for me and I also haven't told my own girlfriend about it".

"And that is why we should have told him" Kaitlynn stated.

"We should have but we didn't" Brayden said, "Telling him now is just going to make things worse, not better".

"Make things worse because Enzo's dead, or because you were the one who killed him?" a curious Kaitlynn asked.

"Both" Brayden replied, "Enzo was his best friend, if Damon finds out his best friend was killed by his twin brother, he's not going to take that well, and honestly I'm not sure I can take Damon hurting because of me".

Kaitlynn let out a sigh, she opened her mouth to say something but before she could, Caroline came out of the cabin, "Good news" she said, gaining the duo's attention and halting their conversation, "So we don't have to be invited in, which is actually super said if you think about it", Caroline looked between Brayden and Kaitlynn and frowned seeing their awkward expression, "Am I interrupting something?".

"No, not at all, we were just taking the bags out of the boot" Kaitlynn quickly said.

"Now that you're here, you can help us out" Brayden said, handing Caroline some bags.

"Okay" a suspicious Caroline said, before grabbing the bags from Brayden and walking into the cabin.

Once Caroline was gone Brayden let out a groan, "What?" a confused Kaitlynn asked.

"Didn't you see that look on her face?" Brayden asked, "She's totally suspicious of us, her overthinking brain is going to jump to the weirdest conclusions now".

"First of all, only you can read the looks on Caroline's face" Kaitlynn said, "Second of all, if you don't want her to be suspicious of us, tell her the truth".

"And have her think that I'm a monster for killing my brother's best friend?" Brayden asked, "Yeah no thanks".

Kaitlynn sighed, "You overthink just as much as Caroline".

"I think she's rubbed off of on me" a sheepish Brayden said.

"Or you've rubbed off on her" Kaitlynn said, grabbing more bags from the boot, "Hey, so where's Damon?".

"He's helping Luke set up a place where he can start the locater spell blocker spell thingy" Brayden informed.

"Is he really helping Luke or is he just looking for any excuse to avoid me?" Kaitlynn asked.

"You really think that Damon doesn't want to be around you?" Brayden asked.

"Well he did say that he wants nothing to do with me" Kaitlynn reminded.

"Yeah, that's why he brought you home last night" Brayden revealed.

Kaitlynn looked at Brayden, "Damon saved me?" she asked, slightly shocked.

"He even tucked you in your bed" Brayden informed, just as Caroline walked out the cabin, she stood at the front porch and looked at Brayden and Kaitlynn, their hush conversation not sitting well with her.

"He only tucked me in because Enzo almost killed me" Kaitlynn argued.

"So then why did he read you a bedtime story?" Brayden teased.

Kaitlynn hit Brayden with the bag she was holding, "You are so not helpful" she laughed, making the frown on Caroline's face deepen.

"For a couple of targets, you two seem to be taking all this in stride!" Caroline snapped, gaining Brayden and Kaitlynn's attention.

"Yeah well I've had worse than a tribe of witchy wannabees trying to take my blood so they can eliminate all the supernatural beings" Brayden said, grabbing a box and then walking towards Caroline with Kaitlynn right behind him.

As Brayden reached Caroline, he placed a kiss on the her forehead, before walking into the cabin with Kaitlynn, Caroline went to follow them but suddenly stopped when she felt a weird presence around her, she turned around and looked at the woods surrounding the cabin, after making sure no one was around them, she turned around and entered the cabin.

After settling in the cabin and putting their things in their respective bedrooms, Brayden and Kaitlynn walked to the shed to grab some firewood.

"I'm a horrible girlfriend" Kaitlynn stated, as her and Brayden entered the shed together.

"Ex-girlfriend" Brayden corrected.

"Ex-girlfriend or current, it doesn't matter, I am someone Damon loves and trusts and I lied right to his face when he asked me about Enzo" a guilty Kaitlynn said, turning the light on.

"And I lied to Caroline's face" Brayden said, trying to make Kaitlynn feel better.

"You didn't lie to Caroline, you just didn't tell her anything" Kaitlynn retorted.

"Yet I told you, my ex-girlfriend, please tell me you realise how this looks" Brayden retorted back, putting some firewood in the bag he brought with him.

"I wish you hadn't told me" Kaitlynn admitted, "You should have just told Caroline".

"I was meant to but I chickened out" Brayden admitted, "Look, I'm really sorry that you have to lie to Damon because of me".

"I'm not lying to Damon because of you Brayden, I'm lying to him because I don't want to see him get hurt" Kaitlynn clarified, "It just sucks lying to him".

"God, Enzo is dead yet I'm still stuck in his trap" Brayden complained, "He wanted his blood on my hands, he wanted Damon to hate me for killing him but I will not give him the satisfaction, I will not let Enzo of all people ruin mine and Damon's relationship".

"You and me both know Damon isn't a person who will just forget and move on" Kaitlynn reminded.

"I know he's not" Brayden whispered, "But I'm just hoping maybe this time he will let it go, I mean he let go of Enzo once, didn't he?".

"That time he thought Enzo was dead" Kaitlynn said, "This time, he thinks Enzo's gone on a vacation to Cape Horn".

"Well I'm hoping eventually he'll just think that Enzo has settled in Cape Horn" Brayden said, "Now come on, let's go before Caroline starts overthinking again".

"I get not telling Damon, but I will tell you, not telling Caroline, one of the dumbest decision you've ever made" Kaitlynn said, following Brayden out of the shed.

"Trust me, I know" Brayden said, he really does want to tell Caroline about Enzo's death, but he was terrified of Caroline thinking differently of him because of it.

While Brayden and Kaitlynn were getting the firewood, Damon and Caroline were in the kitchen, with Damon making all of them drinks and Caroline preparing a game for them to play.

"Hey munchy, that's enough for you" Damon said, seeing Caroline eat the cranberries he set aside of the drinks.

"Shh, I'm thinking" Caroline said, suddenly something came in her head she went to write it down but stopped when she saw Damon walk over to the hat placed next to her and pick out a piece of paper, "Hey!".

"Area 51" a confused Damon read out.

"Stop" Caroline said, snatching the paper from Damon's hand.

"JFK assassination" Damon read another paper, "What the hell is that?".

"You're ruining the game" Caroline complained, snatching the other paper from Damon's hand as well.

"What game?" Damon asked, picking up another paper from the hat.

"Charades" Caroline informed, "Our theme is secrets that people think that they're getting away with".

"Well, Meryl Streep, I'd love to know how we're gonna act out, Watergate" Damon said, reading another piece of paper.

Caroline let out a bitter scoff, "Well, I'm sure team Kaiden will figure it out".

"A, you just implied that I was on your team" Damon said, throwing the piece of paper back in the hat and snatching the glass of cranberries from her hand "Two, you just gave me that judgey little hinty voice, so what am I missing?".

Caroline let out a sigh, "It's probably nothing" she said, continuing her writing.

An annoyed Damon snatched the pen from Caroline's hand, "Speak" he demanded.

"Well, don't you think that Brayden and Kaitlynn have been a little, you know" Caroline said.

"No, clearly, I don't" Damon retorted, going back to making the drinks for everyone.

"Secretive?" Caroline said, "I caught them being all hushed and whispery at the car this morning, and now they're getting fire wood out of the shed together which apparently takes twenty minutes".

"You know, now that you mention it Kaitlynn got all cagey when I brought up Enzo" a suspicious Damon recalled.

"See?!" Caroline exclaimed, "There is something both Brayden and Kaitlynn are hiding from us".

Before Damon could say anything, the front door opened and Brayden and Kaitlynn entered the house together, "Cocktails, nice" Kaitlynn praised, seeing the drinks Damon had prepared for them.

"I'll make the fire" Brayden said, before looking at Caroline, "Wanna help?".

Caroline narrowed her eyes at her boyfriend, "Nope".

Brayden let out a sigh, he knew Caroline had figured out that he was hiding something from her, he also knew if he didn't come clean soon, Caroline's overthinking brain will come up with the worst of the worst reasons possible, but the problem was Brayden didn't know how to come clean to Caroline, he couldn't afford for her to look at him differently.

Once Brayden had walked away to build the fire and Kaitlynn followed after him, Damon walked over to Caroline, "Let the games begin".

Damon, Kaitlynn, Brayden and Caroline sat in the living room of the cabin, playing charades, in which both Damon and Caroline had decided to be in one team and put Brayden and Kaitlyn on the other team, to Kaitlynn's confusion and Brayden's annoyance, but nonetheless the two agreed and Brayden decided just because of him separating him and Caroline, he was going to make it his personal mission to make sure Damon loses this game.

Currently Kaitlynn was trying to get Brayden to guess the word, she pointed towards her head, "Uh, think, thoughtful" Brayden guessed, "Skull".

"Yes!" an excited Kaitlynn confirmed.

"Okay so skull and?" Brayden asked, as Kaitlynn started pointing to her knee caps, "Legs? Limbs? Bones?", Kaitlynn quickly pointed towards Brayden, "Oh! Skull and bones!".

"Yes, finally!" Kaitlynn exclaimed, rushing over to Brayden and giving him a high five, while Caroline rolled her eyes in annoyance and took a sip of her drink.

"So what is that now?" Brayden asked his brother, a teasing expression on his face, "Correct me if I'm wrong, which I'm not, isn't the score now five-zero?".

"Okay, let's play a game called never have I ever?" Damon suggested, done seeing Brayden and Kaitlynn be such good teammates, while Caroline looked at him with her eyes wide open, Damon gave a small shrug in return.

"I am so not drunk enough for that game" Kaitlynn said.

"Oh, come, it'll be fun" Caroline stated.

"Come on, it'll be fun" Damon repeated.

"Yeah, I'll go first" Caroline said, "Never have I ever died".

"Pfft, cheers to that one" Damon said, as all four of them took a sip out of their drinks.

"Never have I ever been possessed by my evil twin" Brayden said, looking right at Kaitlynn.

"Targeting!" Kaitlynn accused, before taking a sip of her drink, "Never have I ever been fooled by my evil sister while she was pretending to be me".

"Guilty" Brayden accepted, taking a sip of his drink.

"Low blow" Caroline laughed, before taking of sip of her drink.

"Tough, but fair" Damon said, drinking his drink.

"Never have I ever kissed a Salvatore brother" Caroline said, Kaitlynn laughed, she came forward to cheers with Caroline, but Caroline stopped her, "Today", when Kaitlynn didn't drink, Caroline said, "So are you gonna drink or--?".

Brayden frowned hearing Caroline's question, "What the hell are you implying here, Caroline?".

Caroline shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know Brayden, you tell me, you and Kaitlynn the ones who have been so secretive".

"And you think that's because I'm cheating on you?!" a shocked Brayden asked, he knew Caroline was going to come to the worst conclusions but he didn't think this was going to be one of them.

Before Caroline could speak, Damon spoke up, knowing if he let Caroline and Brayden talk they will have an argument that won't be good for their relationship, "Never Have I ever lied about where Enzo is".

Both Brayden and Kaitlynn looked at Damon who was observing their facial expressions, "Okay, what is going on?!" an extremely confused Caroline asked.

"Obviously nothing, Caroline" Kaitlynn stated, "Nobody is drinking".

"I mean clearly, you know the rules of the game, right brother?" Damon asked Brayden, "If you lie, you drink".

"I understand the rules perfectly Damon" Brayden assured.

"Anyone else think that things just got awkward or is it just me?" Kaitlynn asked, placing her drink on the table, "Also, I'm feeling kind of tipsy so I'm going to go get ready for bed and escape this tense atmosphere that I just can't handle right now".

"Well, I could certainly use that other round" Damon said, once Kaitlynn had walked out the room, downing his drink and standing up to get himself another one.

"And I could certainly use the air" Brayden said, getting up before either he or Caroline said something hurtful to each other.

Once Brayden had come back from his mini walk, he found out some invisible force had attacked Kaitlynn while she was in the bathroom, immediately causing him to grab his phone and call Fae.

"You know, it's not fair that you four get a romantic weekend and me and Stefan are stuck babysitting hybrids who are currently being possessed by travelers" Fae complained the moment she answered Brayden's call.

"Trust me, this getaway is anything but romantic" Brayden said, "Listen, I called to ask if things on the other side are getting worse?".

"Why are you asking that question?" a confused Fae asked.

"Because Kaitlynn just got attacked by someone we can't see" Brayden revealed, "Since things on the other side aren't going to well, is it possible for ghosts to be physically able to interact with us right now?".

"Actually, yeah" Fae suddenly remembered, "This morning I was having a conversation with my mom and things got a bit heated and she knocked a lamp right off my side table, it's not a easy thing to do but I think if a ghost is emotional enough, then it's very possible".

"Dammit Enzo" Brayden mumbled, realising this was Enzo's doing.

"Enzo's dead?" a shocked Caroline asked, appearing behind Brayden and hearing his conversation with Fae, who was equally shocked hearing about Enzo's death.

"Fae, I'll call you later" Brayden said, hanging up the phone before the Bennett witch could say anything and then turning to his girlfriend, "Yeah, Enzo's dead, because of me".

"So my power of deduction really suck" Caroline realised, feeling extremely guilty for accusing Brayden of cheating on her.

"You think?" Brayden asked.

"Well, why didn't you say anything?" a hurt Caroline asked.

"Because it's not something I can just blurt out" Brayden snapped, "It's too damn complicated".

"Enter the complication" Damon announced, who Kaitlynn had told everything to after her she got attacked, "Enzo's dead, you killed him, Kaitlynn told me".

"So you didn't know, either?" a shocked Caroline asked.

"Nope" Damon confirmed.

"And their secret really was about Enzo" Caroline realised.

"Yeap" Damon said.

"Is this really the right time to be having this conversation?" Brayden asked, hiding how afraid he felt after realising both Damon and Caroline now knew about him killing Enzo.

"By all means brother, at your convenience" Damon taunted.

"Damon, I know that you're angry with me right now but the other side is falling apart and that's allowing for Enzo to mess with us" Brayden informed.

Damon looked around the cabin, "Enzo!" he called out, "You in here? Because knock it off".

"It doesn't make any sense" Caroline said, "If Enzo wanted to kill Kaitlynn drowning her wouldn't have worked, maybe he's just trying to scare us".

"Drowning Kaitlynn was just a distraction" Damon realised after a moment of thinking, "He figured out a way to kill us all in one fell swoop.

Realization suddenly drew on Brayden, "Luke" he whispered, before rusing towards the front porch of the cabin where Luke was supposed to be doing the anti locator spell, but when he got there, Luke was no where to be seen.

"Crap" Damon said, him and Caroline having rushed after Brayden and seeing the same thing.

"Where the hell did he go?" a worried Brayden asked.

"Who knows?" Damon retorted, looking out in the woods in worry, "We better find him before the travelers find us".

The group of four had decided to split into two teams and search for Luke, Kaitlynn and Caroline were together while the twins were together.

While looking around the woods, Kaitlynn turned to her best friend, "Do you think that Luke--", Kaitlynn stopped talking when Caroline walked past her, immediately causing her to let out a sigh, "You're upset with me" she realised, quickly following after the Forbes vampire.

"I'm not upset, just looking for Luke" Caroline lied, because it was clear that she was extremely upset, "You know, Luke who was here to protect you and Brayden, Luke who's now missing because you and Brayden lied about where Enzo was", Caroline stopped walking and faced her friend, "And now the travelers can find you and do their spell and wipe us all off the face of the earth".

"Caroline, I was just worried about Damon" Kaitlynn defended, "I was worried that when he found out about Enzo--".

"He'd flip out?" Caroline finished Kaitlynn's sentence, "And spiral, and kill a bunch of innocent people? Yeah, I get that, I, however, am not Damon, so the fact you and Brayden lied to me about it makes less sense".

"Brayden was terrified of losing both you and Damon over this" Kaitlynn defended.

"And now I'm not going to lose Brayden after accusing him of cheating on me, with my best friend?!" Caroline asked.

"Yeah, about that" Kaitlynn suddenly remembered, "Why did the thought of Brayden cheating on you even come in your head?".

"I have no idea" a guilty Caroline admitted.

"Well, do you still doubt him?" Kaitlynn asked.

"No" Caroline quickly said, "No, of course not".

"Good, then let's go find Luke and then you and Brayden need to sit down and have a conversation, because clearly both you have a lot of apologising to do to each other" Kaitlynn stated, before starting to walk again to find Luke and Caroline quickly following after her.

"Damon, would you just listen to me for once?" Brayden pleaded, rushing behind his twin brother, "You need to know why I lied".

"Nope, I don't" a hurt Damon stated.

"Damon, please" Brayden said.

Damon stopped walking and faced his brother, "Let's just cut to the chase Brayden, because I'm not in a hash-out-our-differences kind of mood, yes, I'm pissed you killed Enzo, I'm even more pissed that you two lied to me about it, you know what Brayden, if it was me and I was in your shoes, I would've done it too, except I would've done it months ago, so the fact that you took this long--".

"You cared about him" Brayden interrupted, "And you might forget our rule, but I didn't, as much as I wanted to kill Enzo since the day he came back in our lives, I couldn't because he was your friend".

"Yes, Brayden, he was my friend" Damon said, "Which is why I, above anyone else, should've known that he was dead, let's just find the stupid witch".

"What'd you think I was gonna do?" a curious Damon asked his brother as they walked into the woods, searching for Luke.

"When?" a confused Brayden asked.

"When I found out Enzo was dead, what did you think I was gonna go on a rampage?" Damon asked, "Slaughter a bunch of innocent people? Go bowling with human heads? What'd you think I was gonna do?".

"I thought you were gonna hate me" Brayden clarified, "I didn't tell you, not because I was afraid you'd kill people, because I was afraid that you would start hating me".

Damon stopped walking and looked at his brother, but before he could say anything, his eyes landed on the small shed infront of them, "You hear that?" he asked, hearing a noise coming from inside the shed.

"Yeap" Brayden confirmed, "Let's check it out", Damon and Brayden rushed into the shed where they found a tied up Luke, Brayden quickly ran over to him and checked his pulse, "He's alive, but barely".

"Why the hell would Enzo dump him here?" a confused Damon asked, none of this making sense to him.

"I have no idea" Brayden admitted, looking around the shed in confusion.

Suddenly Damon smelled something, "Smell that?" he asked his brother.

Brayden smelled the air and his eyes widened when he realised this was the smell of gasoline but before he or Damon could say or do anything, the lamp was ripped from the roof and thrown to the floor, immediately causing the whole shed to lit on fire.

Damon looked at Brayden, "Grab him, let's go" he said, while Brayden walked on untying Luke, Damon tried to walk out the cabin but the door shut on him, his attention went towards his brother when he heard him let out a yell of pain, turning he realised Enzo had stabbed Brayden in the stomach with a wooden stick, "Dick move Enzo", as Brayden slowly stood up, both him and Damon were separated from each other as a wooden plank fell from the roof and in between the two brothers, suddenly Damon was pushed to the wall with a rock through his stomach, "If only this wasn't totally avoidable" Damon said while groaning in pain.

"Is this really the time for told you so's?" an annoyed Brayden asked, trying to take the stick out of his stomach but Enzo had made sure it was deep and that taking it out wasn't going to be easy for Brayden.

"This isn't gonna stop Brayden, I killed his girl, you killed him, this is not gonna stop" Damon reminded, "Are you listening to me, Enzo?", Damon yelled in pain when the rock was pushed deeper into him, "Is that a yes or a no? Cause I can bring you back, Fae came back, Markos came back, I'll find a way, but this has to stop, how do you think you're able to do all this stuff? The other side's falling apart Enzo, so you could either help me, or you could blink out of existence, it's your choice", Brayden finally managed to remove the stick from his stomach, "Go Brayden, get Luke out of here".

Brayden immediately shook his head, "Not leaving you behind".

"He's the only one that could hide you and Kaitlynn!" Damon reminded.

"Do you really think I care about that right now?" Brayden asked, proceeding to untie the ropes that were still holding Luke down.

"Go, now!" Damon yelled.

"I'll come back for you" Brayden promised his brother, before helping Luke stand and speeding him out of the shed, once Brayden had gone, the rock pinning Damon was removed, and Brayden quickly rushed into the cabin again, he grabbed his brother and speeded them out just as the whole shed fell apart.

"You okay?" Brayden asked Luke, who had finally gained conscious and was sitting on the stairs.

"Liv and I should've killed you when we had the chance" Luke admitted.

"Trust me, you're not the only one who feels that way" Brayden said.

Luke sighed, "Let's just say my family's pretty screwed up, not a whole lot of compassion, you guys are different, you protect each other".

"Yes we do" Brayden confirmed, "But today we need you to protect us, so why don't you go grab your stuff, we need to leave before the travelers get here".

"Yeah" Luke whispered, slowly standing up and walking upstairs to grab his stuff, just as the front door opened and Damon entered the cabin.

"Are you actually going to do it?" Brayden asked his brother.

"Do what?" Damon asked, grabbing his bag and a bottle of bourbon.

"Bring Enzo back from the dead" Brayden replied, "Which by the way, how exactly are you going to do it?".

"Markos found his way back, it's not impossible" Damon reminded, "Unless you want him terrorizing us for the rest of eternity".

"No, not really" Brayden admitted, he then let out a sigh, "Damon look, I--".

Before Brayden could complete his sentence, Damon ended up punching him, "I had to do that, for Enzo".

"Yeah I deserved that" Brayden whispered, holding his jaw in pain.

"And it's the last time you'll hear about it from me" Damon informed, before walking out the door.

After his talk with Damon, Brayden also walked out the cabin to find Caroline who he found at the burning shed, "Never have I ever been almost burned alive, twice".

"Drink" Caroline teased, a small smile on her face seeing Brayden.

Brayden smiled back at Caroline, "Uh, the car's packed, we should get going".

"You're not angry at me?" a slightly scared Caroline asked, stopping Brayden from walking away.

"For what?" Brayden asked.

"For accusing you of cheating on me with Kaitlynn" Caroline replied.

Brayden sighed, "I'm not angry, at the time I was hurt but I realised I can't blame you for this, I created this mess by being so secretive, I know it looked really bad".

"Yeah, it did" Caroline whispered, "Brayden, I thought we tell each other things, trust each other".

Brayden immediately took a step closer to Caroline, "Princess, trust had nothing to do with this, I trust you, so so much".

"But you trust Kaitlynn more" Caroline retorted.

"No!" Brayden exclaimed, "Of course I don't trust Kaitlynn more than you, Caroline, the night I killed Enzo, my first thought was to tell you everything, and I had gone to your dorm but I didn't find you, I ended up finding Kaitlynn, and then after that I just couldn't tell you, I couldn't bring myself to it".

"Why?" a curious Caroline asked.

"Because the thought of you thinking any less of me, terrified me" Brayden admitted, "I kept thinking about what Enzo said, how many more things can we go through before there is no us anymore".

"Like you said Brayden, there will always be an us" Caroline stated, "You can't get rid of me, and I don't want to ever live without you".

Brayden stared at Caroline for a moment, before he lunged forward and placed his lips on to hers and the Forbes vampire gladly kissed him back.

As the two vampires were kissing, they were suddenly forced to separate when pain shot through their heads, both Brayden and Caroline yelled in pain and fell to the ground just as a bunch of travelers surrounded them.

Kaitlynn stepped out of the cabin and saw Damon putting his bags into the back of his car, "Hey".

"Hey, we're leaving, pack your stuff" Damon said.

"My stuff's already packed" Kaitlynn informed, before looking at Damon, "Hey, so, are you okay?".

"I'm fine, I'm just in a little bit of a hurry, you should be too, the travelers can find us" Damon reminded, finally facing Kaitlynn.

"So there's nothing you want to talk about?" Kaitlynn asked.

"What's there to talk about?" Damon retorted.

"Maybe about the fact that you're hurt that I lied to you" Kaitlynn stated.

"I don't care that you lied, really" Damon said, turning back to his car.

Kaitlynn looked at Damon with a confused expression on her face, "I'll admit, this reaction of yours is really confusing".

"You were right, Kait" Damon said, facing Kaitlynn again, "You wanted to protect me so I wouldn't spiral, because if I spiraled, then it would prove that we shouldn't be together, but I didn't spiral, despite every nerve in my body wanting to break something or hurt someone or do all the wrong things for all the right reasons I'm holding it together the best I can, for you".

A small smile formed on Kaitlynn's face hearing Damon, "But you still have a right to be mad at me".

"Of course I'm mad at you" Damon stated, "Because being around you drives me nuts, and not being around you drives me nuts".

"Yeah well, you were the one who decided to give up on us, not me" Kaitlynn reminded, a bitter and hurt tone in her voice, "So you deserve whatever confusion you've created in your head", Kaitlynn turned to leave, when Damon suddenly grabbed her wrist, he forced her to face him and before the Pierce vampire could ask any questions, Damon had kissed her, once they broke apart, a slightly out of breath Kaitlynn looked at Damon, "What'd you do that, Damon?".

Damon placed his hands on either side of Kaitlynn's face, "Because I've had a really crappy day, and I needed it".

Before Kaitlynn could say anything, Damon turned around and went into the cabin, for a second Kaitlynn just stood there, with a smile on her face, she then turned towards the cabin and took a step towards the cabin, but suddenly stopped when pain shot through her head, she yelled in pain and fell to the floor just as the travelers came out of the woods and surrounded her.
