10. After School Special

Brayden and Stefan sat in the Grill, getting drunk, when Stefan's phone ringed.

"Hey, where are you?" Fae asked, walking with Caroline, "You just the missed the mandatory all school assembly".

"That's because me and Bray are at a mandatory drinking party" Stefan informed, putting his phone on speaker and placing in on the middle of the table.

"And why exactly are you getting drunk?" a confused Fae asked.

"Do we need a reason?" Brayden retorted.

"You guys, Tyler is already spiraling and he gets priority" Caroline said, "We can't have you two spiral as well".

"First of all, we're not spiraling" Brayden assured, "And second of all, even if we were, are you telling me the good for nothing werewolf will be your priority over me?".

"Brayden, he's mom just died, be a little nice, please" Caroline pleaded, "He's already angry, it doesn't help everyone keeps referring to his mom's death as an accident which is really just a polite way of saying that she was drunk".

"Do you guys think Klaus killed her?" Stefan asked curiously.

"I don't think it's a coincidence that she died the same night Klaus killed all of his hybrids" Fae replied, "So you two need to wrap your drinking party and help us be there for our friend".

"He's not my friend" Brayden stated.

"Brayden--".

"Oh look you're cutting out" Brayden interrupted Caroline, pressing the hanging up button.

"You're so going to regret that later on" Stefan said.

"I know, but I'd rather deal with Caroline's anger then help Tyler" Brayden said, downing his drink, while Stefan shook his head at his brother but nonetheless joined him in drinking.

***

"Ugh, who is this now" an annoyed Brayden asked, as this time his phone started ringing, picking it up he realised it was an unknown caller, "Whoever this is, right now is a bad time" he said answering the phone.

"Guess who?" Rebekah said from the other side, immediately causing Brayden and Stefan to exchange confused looks, last they checked Rebekah was daggered, "I'm back, dagger-free and I'm holding Elena hostage at the high school, just thought you should know".

"Why should I give a crap about Elena?" Brayden asked.

"Well you and Stefan don't care about Elena, but you do care about Fae and Caroline, right?" Rebekah asked, "I swear I heard them walking in these hallways, if you and Stefan don't come here, then Fae and Caroline will be in some serious trouble".

Hearing Rebekah, immediately caused Brayden to hang up on her and then turned to his brother, anger evident on his face, "I think it's time to drive a white oak stake through Rebekah's heart".

"I agree" Stefan said, equally as angry as Rebekah for threatening Fae.

***

As soon as Brayden and Stefan entered the high school, they immediately went in separate directions to go find the girls or Rebekah.

Brayden looked at his phone when he received a text from Stefan, letting him know the second floor was clear, Brayden who was on the first floor, looked into a classroom and realised it was empty, when suddenly he heard a whoosh behind him, looking behind him he saw no one but he knew Rebekah was near him, so he immediately texted his brother.

First floor, I'm distracting her, you stake her.

"Hello, Brayden".

Brayden looked ahead and saw Rebekah standing infront of her, "We're here, where's Caroline and Fae?".

Rebekah smirked, "Safe, for now" she said, "Oh and I hope you're not waiting for Stefan to come and stake me", Rebekah pulled out the white oak from her back pocket, letting Brayden know she found Stefan before he could find her.

***

Rebekah shoved Brayden into the library where his brother and the girls along with April, everyone except April having been compelled by Rebekah.

"Brayden" Elena whispered, standing up, immediately causing Caroline to glare at her.

"Did I say you could move?" Rebekah asked, causing Elena to sit back down.

"Class is in session" Rebekah announced to everyone, "You've all been compelled, you know the rules, answer my question honestly, no disobedience, no one leaves".

"The one time none of us take vervain" an annoyed Brayden mumbled, sitting between his brother and Caroline, completely ignoring the looks Elena was sending his way.

"April, my sweet, take notes, this is how you get answers in this town" Rebekah said, "Let's start with a little quiz, in the year 1114, my brother learned, thanks to yours truly, about a brotherhood of vampire hunters with tattoos that grew with each kill, these tattoos revealed what, Fae?".

"A map" an annoyed Fae informed, unable to use her magic as Rebekah compelled her.

"Which led to, Caroline?" Rebekah asked.

"A cure for vampirisim" Caroline replied.

"Perfect, so we're all caught up" Rebekah said, "Stefan Salvatore, the last time we saw each other, you had a vampire hunter, but in order to decode the map, you needed the location of the hunter's sword which you got out of me using some very dirty tricks, assuming you found the sword, you also found the cure and yet you're all still vampires, which means something went wrong", Rebekah then turned to April who was writing in her notebook, "What are you doing?".

"Oh, you asked me to take notes" April replied.

"I wasn't being literal, darling" Rebekah said, "But now that you mention it, a flow chart would be nice, which means index cards and push pins, go fetch".

"You're wasting your time" Stefan said, after April left, "We don't know anything".

"So you just gave up?" Rebekah asked, "I thought you'd do anything for Fae's happiness, even if it meant taking the cure yourself so you could grow old and die with her".

"The hunter died, we hit a dead end, now can we go?" Brayden asked.

"I'll let you go, when you tell me what's with the tension between you, Elena and Caroline?" Rebekah asked, having seen the glares both Brayden and Caroline kept sending Elena.

"None of your business" Brayden snapped.

"You have to tell me Brayden, you have no choice" Rebekah snapped.

"Elena has feelings for Brayden" a frustrated Caroline blurted out.

"Oh boy" Fae whispered, realising this wasn't going to end well.

***

"So vampire Elena is a trollop who likes bad boys which explains why Caroline looks like she wants to kill her" Rebekah said, circling the group, "But what it doesn't explain is why sweet, loving innocent Elena could fall for her so called best friends soulmate", Rebekah looked at Brayden, "What is it about you Brayden that made Elena forget that you have a soulmate? Answer, please".

"Elena doesn't have feelings for, she thinks she has feelings for but in reality its just that damn sirebond" Brayden revealed, really wanting to leave but Rebekah's compulsion keeping him down.

"A sire bond?" an amused Rebekah asked, "That's fascinating, and what do you think about that, Elena?".

"I think you're sad, and bored" Elena taunted, "And in desperate need of a hobby".

"You're hiding something, fess up" Rebekah compelled.

"I'm not attracted to Brayden because of the sirebond, I'm attracted to Brayden because I'm in love with him" a compelled Elena revealed.

Brayden looked at Elena in shock, not excepting her to actually be in love with him, he then looked at Caroline, who was glaring at Elena.

"He's my soulmate Elena" Caroline snapped, "How can you fall in love with him?!".

"Go on, answer her Elena" Rebekah once again compelled Elena, "How could you fall in love with someone else's soulmate?".

"I don't care that Brayden and Caroline are soulmates, if Kaitlynn and Elijah's soulmate bond can be broken, then so can there's, I think that I can treat Brayden much better then Caroline ever could, I can love him way more, he will be happier with me, not Caroline" a compelled Elena replied.

Brayden slammed his hands on the desk and glared at Elena, startling her, "Caroline is my life, I can't imagine falling for anyone but her, even if she decides one day she doesn't want to be with me anymore, I will respect that Elena but even then, I will never fall for you".

"Brayden, I love you" Elena whispered, tears welling in her eyes.

"And I hate you" Brayden stated, glaring at Elena.

Fae glared at Rebekah, "For the love of everything, can we please go back to talking about the cure?".

"You're right, we got off the point" Rebekah realised, "Stefan, how do I find the cure? Unless you'd rather talk about Brayden and Elena all day".

"There's a professor, he knows where the cure is" Stefan said, looking between Brayden and Caroline in worry, he didn't want Elena's feelings to mess with their relationship.

"Thank you, and where do I find this professor?" Rebekah asked curiously.

"Whitmore college" Stefan replied.

***

"Sister".

Brayden looked towards the entrance of the library and a small smile formed on his facing seeing his former lover, Kol.

"Look at this" Kol said, seeing what Rebekah had done, "You're even worse than Klaus".

"Kol, finally, did you bring what I asked for?" Rebekah asked.

Kol shoved a very confused Professor Shane into the library.

"You must be Shane" Rebekah greeted, a sinister smirk on her face.

***

"Why did you drag me with you?" a confused Brayden asked, as he and Kol watched Rebekah shove Shane into a storage room.

Kol had refused to let Rebekah take Shane with her until she freed Brayden from her compulsion, and let him come with them.

"You looked like you'd rather be anywhere but that library" Kol replied, "Honestly the tension was thick in there".

"You can thank your sister for that" Brayden said.

"Well then why don't you take your frustration on the professor?" Kol asked, giving Brayden a knowing smirk.

Brayden smirked back at Kol, "Gladly" he replied, looking at Professor Shane, having hated him since he met him.

Shane looked between Kol and Rebekah, "Kol and Rebekah Mikaelson" he realised, "Two members of the Original vampire family, this is such a trip".

"Where's the cure?" Rebekah tired to compel Shane.

"Compulsion won't work" a smug Shane replied, "It's a little trick I picked up in Tibet".

"Right, well, we'll just have to do this the old-fashioned way" Rebekah realised.

Kol smirked, "Shane, I believe you've already met Brayden Salvatore, my ex-lover and probably the most ruthless Salvatore brother" he said, Brayden looked at Shane and gave him a wave, "My sister has gotten him mad so now he's going to take it out on you".

"Nothing personally" Brayden said.

"Beat him until he tells you where to find the cure" Rebekah told Brayden.

Brayden and Kol looked at each other, "Shall we, darling?" Kol asked.

"Gladly" Brayden said, before punching Shane in the face.

***

"Where is the cure?" Kol asked, shoving Shane's face under water.

"Come on Shane, just tell us where the cure is and all of this will be over" Brayden said.

When Shane stayed quiet, Kol and Brayden exchanged a look and this time Brayden shoved Shane's face underwater.

"You're human, why do you want it anyways?" a confused Rebekah asked as Brayden pulled Shane back up.

"That's the beauty of this, you can have it, I just want Silas" Shane replied, causing the smile on Kol's face to immediately go way.

"No" Kol snapped, holding Shane by his collars, "What do you know about Silas?".

"He's the world's first immortal being" Shane informed, "Who just so happens to be imprisoned with the cure, and I want to free him".

"No!" an enraged Kol yelled, shoving Shane's head back into the water while Rebekah and Brayden looked on confused, wondering why was Kol so angry hearing about Silas.

"Stop!" Rebekah yelled, shoving Kol away from Shane, "He's no use dead".

"Did you not hear what he said?!" Kol yelled, "Silas will kill us all, sister".

"Silas does not exist" Rebekah argued, "He is a fairy tale made up to scare children into eating their vegetables".

"Silas is very real" Shane whispered, "I know where he's buried, and soon I'll have a spell that wakes him".

"Wait a second, you're lying" Kol stated, "You can't get to him".

"Without his tombstone?" Shane asked, "Dozens to die in a blood sacrifice? Believe me, I know, I've done it, those massacres are a pain to engineer".

"So Damon's suspicion was right" Brayden realised, "You're the one who got the council blown up".

"It was a noble sacrifice" Shane defended.

Brayden scoffed, "And you humans have the audacity to say we vampires are the monsters, you committed a massacre and you still have the guts to defend yourself?".

"It's temporary" Shane once again defended, "Because once I raise Silas, Silas will raise the dead, he will bring back every last soul who died on his behalf".

"No!" Kol yelled, stabbing Shane with a metal rod, shocking both Brayden and Rebekah who were not expecting that.

***

"You should be thanking me" Kol told an angry Rebekah.

"You killed my only chance at finding the cure" Rebekah snapped.

"Silas on the loose would be hell on earth" Kol stated, "And frankly, sister", Kol pulled out the white oak stake from his back pocket, "I don't think you could handle it".

"How did you get that?" a shocked Rebekah asked.

"Way too easily" Kol replied, walking out the room.

Brayden looked at Shane's bedroom, and then at Rebekah, after a shrug he followed Kol out of the room, seeing Kol's reaction to Silas, suddenly made Brayden wonder if the cure was worth it.

Unknown to Rebekah, Kol and Brayden as soon as they left the room, Shane gasped and opened his eyes again because of Bonnie accidently linking him to April.

***

"Brayden!" Caroline yelled, running into Brayden's arms.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Brayden asked, wrapping his arms around Caroline's waist and hugging her back.

"I was so worried for, I was worried Tyler might have hurt you" Caroline said, hiding her face in Brayden's neck.

"Tyler?" a confused Brayden asked, "What is Tyler doing here?".

"Rebekah called him" Caroline informed, "She compelled him to turn and then compelled me, Stefan, Fae and Elena not to vamp run or leave the school, she wanted no competition when it came to getting the cure".

"God, I really hate mini Klaus" Brayden mumbled, he broke the hug and laced his fingers with Caroline's, "Come on, let's go before Tyler finds us".

Caroline nodded in understand, and the two soulmates proceeded to walk away, they entered the gym together, making sure to keep their eyes peeled for a blood thirsty werewolf, that's when their eyes landed on Tyler, laying in the middle of the gym.

"Tyler" Caroline whispered, as her and Brayden rushed over to Lockwood werewolf.

Brayden quickly took his jacket off and covered Tyler up, "You okay?" he asked, as Tyler slowly woke up with a groan.

"I'm so sorry" Tyler whispered.

"It's not your fault" a worried Caroline assured.

"Yes, it was" Tyler said, taking heavy breaths, "This whole thing, this is all my fault", Tyler looked at Brayden, "I should've listened to you, maybe then she would have been alive", suddenly Tyler started crying, "I should've saved her".

Brayden and Caroline looked at each other, then at Tyler, neither of them knew how to comfort him but Brayden did feel Tyler's pain, he knew the pain of losing your mother and he knew no matter what he said to Tyler, it wouldn't help, the pain would never stop.

***

After dropping both Tyler and Caroline home, Brayden entered his room, and to his confusion, he saw Kol sitting on his bed.

"I see you made yourself at home" Brayden commented.

Kol looked at Brayden, "I need your help, Bray" he said.

"With that?" a confused Brayden asked.

"In stopping your friends from finding the cure and raising Silas" Kol replied.

"Okay, who the hell is Silas and why don't you want him to raise?" Brayden asked.

"Silas is someone who will bring hell on this earth, he will kill everyone you've ever known or loved Brayden" Kol replied, "Including your soulmate, if you don't help me, then the woman you love she will die, your brothers will die, everyone will be in danger, I can't let anyone get to Silas but I can't do this alone, you need to help me".

For a second Brayden thought about Kol's words, the thought of something happening to his brother or Caroline, didn't sit well with Brayden at all.

Brayden looked at Kol, "How are you so sure Silas will do all this?" he asked, "What if Silas isn't real?".

"Silas is real Brayden" Kol insisted, "A few centuries ago I met a coven of witches who worshipped Silas, they told me all of this, Brayden if Silas rises, then we are all dead, so are you going to help me stop everyone or not?".

After a moment of hesitation, Brayden nodded his head, "I'll help you" he replied, realising that people's desire to become human wasn't worth all of them dying or hell releasing on earth because of Silas.
