06. Smells Like Teen Spirit

"I can't believe you two forced me to come to school" Kaitlynn complained, as her, Fae and Caroline stood infront of the school.

"Come on, it's my senior year, and I want to do it with you two by my side" Caroline said.

"The things I do for you two" Kaitlynn mumbled, making both Fae and Caroline laugh.

"So, senior year, huh?" Fae asked.

"Yeap" Caroline replied.

"From all the movies and shows I've watched, I thought this was supposed to feel more empowering" Kaitlynn said.

"I agree" Fae said.

"Okay, so prank night was a bust" Caroline said, "But we are accepting it and we're moving on".

"So we're ignoring everything that happened last night?" Kaitlynn asked.

"Yeap" Caroline replied.

"Sounds healthy" Kaitlynn said, sarcasm evident in her voice.

"Why should I let the fact my boyfriend was forced to turn his humanity off put a damper on an otherwise fabulous day?" Caroline said.

"Same pinch" Fae told Caroline.

"Yeah, not going to lie, that did not make me excited for senior year" Kaitlynn said.

Caroline sighed, "Come on guys, we need to get excited, because the way things have been turning, this might be the one good thing that is going happen to us for a long time".

Fae nodded in agreement, "You're right, we have to make the most out of today".

Kaitlynn sighed, "Fine, just for you two, I'll try and make the best out of high school".

"And that's all we want" Fae said, looping her arms with Caroline and Kaitlynn, and the three girls then proceeded to enter Mystic Falls High School together, ready for whatever was going to get thrown at them.

Damon walked into the Salvatore living room, where he saw his younger brother playing twister with a bunch of girls.

"Uh-oh, Alexandra, left hand, please" Stefan said.

"Hey, the two brunettes on the staircase owe me a Persian rug" Damon said, as Stefan bit into the girl's wrist.

"Stop thinking you own this house" Brayden snapped, entering the living and walking straight over to the alcohol.

"Exactly" Stefan said, agreeing with Brayden, "They owe us a Persian rug, it's mine and Brayden's house, too, brother, ooh, any of you like a spin?".

"No" Brayden replied, "But I am hungry".

"Pick your breakfast then" Stefan said, pointing to the girls.

"Gladly" Brayden said, walking over to a girl and sinking his teeth into her neck.

"So this is what Klaus had in mind when he compelled you two to protect Elena?" An annoyed Damon asked.

"These ladies are helping me be all that I can be" Stefan replied.

Brayden stopped drinking for a second and looked at his twin, "I can't protect anyone on an empty stomach, the only thing I am with an empty stomach is annoyed and angry, and trust me, right now, you don't want to make me angry or annoyed".

"I forgot how much I hate no humanity Brayden" Damon said.

"I forgot how much I hate you in general" Brayden retorted.

Damon rolled his eyes at his brother, when suddenly there was a knock on the front door, Damon opened the door and saw Rebekah standing on the other side.

"Where's Stefan and Brayden?" Rebekah asked, barging into the house.

"Who the hell are you?" Damon asked confused.

"Oh look, it's the bitchy sister of the asshole hybrid" Brayden said, seeing Rebekah enter.

"He left me here, my brother actually left me here" Rebekah complained to Brayden and Stefan, ignoring Brayden's taunt.

"And we care because?" Brayden asked.

"You're Klaus's sister?" Damon asked Rebekah.

"Rebekah, pleasure, I'm sure" Rebekah told Damon, she then turned to Stefan and Brayden, "Which one's my room?".

"You're not staying here" Stefan replied.

"Rude" Rebekah said, looking at the three brothers, "All three of you".

"Thank you" Brayden said, giving Rebekah a sarcastic smile.

"I'll see to it myself" Rebekah said, walking upstairs.

"Well, I guess she's staying here" Stefan said.

"Lovely" Brayden mumbled.

"Checking in to see if high school has killed me yet?" Kaitlynn asked, walking over to her locker while on the phone with Damon.

"That and to inform you so you can inform Fae and Caroline, we have a new housemate, Barbie-Klaus" Damon informed.

"Excuse me?" Kaitlynn asked, "Damon, you better keep her out of my room or god so help I'll stake you if she touches any of my things".

"How is it my fault if she touches your things?" Damon asked.

"You didn't kick her out" Kaitlynn replied, "Why is she even living with us?".

"Cause she's stranded" Damon replied, "Klaus left her in the dust after I name dropped Mikael".

"That's lovely" Kaitlynn said, "And what about your brothers? Fae and Caroline are worried about them".

"Oh, you know Stefan, journaling, reading, shaping his hair, and Brayden's been outside all day, working on his car" Damon lied, not telling Kaitlynn the truth as he didn't want Fae and Caroline to find out what Stefan and Brayden were up to.

"Liar" Kaitlynn immediately sensed, "What are you hiding from me, Salvatore?".

"Was that the bell? Ring, ring, don't wanna be late" Damon said, avoiding Kaitlynn's question.

"Are you kidding me?!" Kaitlynn snapped, glaring at her phone after Damon hanged up on her, "I swear, these brothers are gonna be the death of all three of us".

Kaitlynn looked around in order to find Caroline and Fae, she finally saw them near the noticeboard, where Caroline was pinning a notice about the back to school bonfire.

"A bonfire?" Kaitlynn asked, walking over to the two girls.

"Yeap, and before you try, let me tell you I'm not hearing any excuses from any of you, it's our first spirit squad event together, ever" Caroline replied, "And it sets the bar for the whole year--".

"Caroline, relax" Fae interrupted, "We'll both be there, right Kait?".

"Like you two will let me stay at home" Kaitlynn replied.

"Happy first day, guys" Tyler greeted, walking over to the three girls.

"Tyler, why is there blood on your shirt?" A confused Kaitlynn asked, her eyes landing on Tyler's shirt where a blood stain was present.

"Oh, my god" Fae whispered, she quickly grabbed Tyler's arm and pulled him into the bathroom, Caroline and Kaitlynn following them in.

"What's going on?" Tyler asked confused.

"Vampire 101" Caroline said, as Kaitlynn checked the bathroom stalls, making sure they were all alone, "Don't wear your breakfast to school".

"Chill out, it was a blood bag" Tyler defended.

"Where the hell did you get a blood bag from?!" Fae asked confused.

"Rebekah hooked me up" Tyler replied, shocking the three girls

"Rebekah?" Fae asked, "What are you two, besties now?".

"No, but Klaus told her to keep a watch on me" Tyler informed, "Protect his new asset".

"His what now?" Kaitlynn asked, not sure if he heard Tyler correctly, "You realise that's not something to be amused about, right?".

"I'm his first successful hybrid, guys" Tyler argued, "Don't you guys think that's a tiny bit awesome?".

"Unbelievable" Fae whispered, "You have officially lost it, Caroline you deal with him otherwise I'm going to end up frying his brain".

Before anyone could say anything, a furious Fae walked out of the bathroom and straight away bumped into Stefan.

"Hello, Fae" Stefan greeted, a smirk on his face.

"Not now" Fae said, trying to walk away from Stefan but before she could he quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his chest, "What the hell do you want Stefan!?".

"What do you mean? I'm going back to school" Stefan replied, "Go Timberwolves"

"You're not here for school spirit, you're here because Klaus wants you to keep an eye Elena" Fae retorted.

"Look at you putting the puzzle pieces together" Stefan said sarcastically.

"Then go bother Elena" Fae said, "I'm mad right now and I don't want to deal with you when I'm mad, now let go of my wrist, I have to get to class".

"Great, I'll take you" Stefan said.

"No need" Fae said.

"I wasn't asking, Fae" Stefan said.

"You realise I'm stronger then you, right?" Fae asked, "If I wanted to, I could very easily push you away from me".

"Yet we both know, you won't do that" Stefan replied, "You don't have it in you to push me away, Fae".

"And you don't have it in you to stay from me, right?" Fae asked, "Because Klaus asked you to protect Elena, not me, there is no reason for you to be talking right now, unless even without your humanity you can't help but love me".

"You're being delusional" Stefan said.

Fae finally managed to remove her hand from Stefan's grip, "I don't think I am" she simply said.

Stefan watched as Fae walked away him, with a smirk on his face.

Caroline was now at cheer practice, Kaitlynn and Fae both refusing be part of the squad so instead they were watching and cheering for Caroline from the benches.

"Has anyone seen Dana?" someone asked.

"Sounds like you have an opening on the squad" Rebekah said, walking over to Caroline.

"What are you doing?" A shocked Caroline asked, Rebekah ignored Caroline and started stretching, "Hey, hey! You can't just come and infiltrate all of our lives".

"I'm only interested in yours" Rebekah clarified, "Your spunk, your popularity, but don't worry, I don't have any interest in your boyfriend, my brother will be the one who will take him away from you, not me".

Caroline glared at Rebekah and not wanting to be near the original any longer, she turned around and started walked over to Kaitlynn and Fae, as she was walking back to her worried friends, who heard everything, her way was blocked by her soulmate.

"Someone shutting Caroline Forbes up, that's a first" Brayden taunted.

"Move out of my way, Brayden" Caroline snapped.

"Oh come on, I was just here to have a chat with my soulmate" Brayden teased, "But clearly you have better things to do".

Brayden stepped away from Caroline and let her walk away, but before Caroline could walk away, a guy accidently ended up bumping into her, causing her to bump into Brayden.

"Hey!" Brayden snapped, after steadying Caroline, "Watch where you're going, dickhead!".

"I'm sorry" the guy said.

"Don't apologise to me, apologise to her" Brayden said, gesturing towards Caroline.

"I'm sorry" the guy told Caroline, who just gave him a small nod.

After the guy left, Brayden turned to Caroline, who was already staring at him.

"What?" Brayden asked, confused with her stare.

"I don't know if I should be happy with your protectiveness or scared of your cold tone" Caroline replied.

"If what I just did made you happy, then you need to get your head checked" Brayden said, walking away from Caroline and towards Stefan who had just finished taunting Elena.

Fae and Kaitlynn, who heard the exchange between Brayden and Caroline, looked at each other in worry.

"We need to do something, Kait" Fae said, "These two are just going to get more dangerous as time goes on".

"I agree" Kaitlynn said.

It was night time and the back to school bonfire was in full swing, but instead of enjoying the bonfire, Fae, Kaitlynn, Caroline, Alaric and Damon were in Alaric's classroom, talking about capturing Brayden and Stefan after realising leaving them out and about can be very dangerous for everyone.

"Okay, so here's the plan" Kaitlynn said, "Fae, it's your job to lure Stefan away from the fire, while Caroline you lure Brayden away, and when both of them are distracted--".

"I'll shoot Brayden" Alaric finished.

"While I deal with Stefan" Fae added, "Care, you covered with the cell?".

"Yes, the old Forbes jail cell is prepped and ready" Caroline assured.

"You guys are forgetting a key player here, Rebekah" Damon reminded, "Wherever Stefan and Brayden go, a blond ponytail tends to follow".

"Which is why she's your headache for the night" Kaitlynn said, "Keep her away from all of us".

"How?" Damon asked, "She's an original, last time I checked, we're out of daggers".

"So then use your non-existent charm" Kaitlynn teased.

"Might have better luck finding the dagger" Alaric said, making Damon roll his eyes in annoyance.

"Sorry I'm late, what's going on?" Tyler asked, entering the classroom.

"You need to grab all the vervain from your mother's supply" Fae replied, "We're going to need a lot to keep both Stefan and Brayden down".

"You can't do that to Brayden and Stefan" Tyler protested, confusing everyone.

"Why not?" Caroline asked.

"Tyler it's in everyone's best interest that those two are locked away till their humanity is back on" Kaitlynn said.

"Exactly" Caroline said.

"But it's not in Klaus's" Tyler said.

"Oh" Kaitlynn whispered, exchanging a look with Damon, both of them realising what was happening.

"But Klaus is the bad guy, Tyler" Caroline reminded, "Why are you acting like some freaky hybrid slave-minion?".

"Uh-oh" Damon said, as Kaitlynn slowly handing him a vervain dart.

"What?" Alaric asked Damon.

"Klaus made me who I am, Caroline" Tyler reminded, "I owe him everything".

"Oh, boy" Damon said, slowly walking over to Tyler.

"Oh, no" Fae whispered, she looked at Kaitlynn, "He's--?".

Kaitlynn nodded, confirming Fae's doubt while Alaric and Caroline looked at them in confusion.

"Okay, what is happening?!" Caroline asked.

"I'm just gonna go" Tyler said.

Before Tyler could leave the room, Damon speeded over to him and stuck the vervain dart in his neck.

"What are you doing?!" A shocked Caroline asked.

"He's been sired" Damon informed.

"What?" Alaric asked confused.

"Meaning Tyler now feels extremely loyal to Klaus because his blood is what turned him into a vampire" Kaitlynn clarified.

"He'll seek acceptance from his master, it's truly rare, maybe not so much in hybrids" Damon added.

"So how do we fix him?" Caroline asked curiously.

"Get a new werewolf buddy" Damon simply replied.

"As of now, there is no known way to break a sire bond" Fae said, looking at a unconscious Tyler in worry.

"You all right there?" Stefan asked, walking over to Rebekah who was struggling with the keg.

"I thought Tyler would be here" Rebekah replied.

"You're into Tyler now, huh? That's kind of fickle" Stefan said.

"When you're willing to give me the time of day again, we'll talk" Rebekah said, "Until then, a girl has needs".

"Move it" Fae said, walking over to the keg and pouring herself a drink.

"Fae, hi, what are you doing?" Stefan asked.

"What does it look like, Stefan?" Fae asked, "I'm enjoying the bonfire".

Stefan watched in amusement and Fae downed her drink, "All right, take it easy, we both know you're kind of a lightweight".

Fae chuckled, "We're a perfect match then aren't we?" she said, "I can't handle my alcohol, while you can't handle your blood".

After giving Stefan a mock smile, Fae walked away from him, knowing he was going to follow her.

Caroline walked over to a group of students who were doing a keg stand, she smiled and joined in cheering for the guy to drink.

"Drink! Drink! Drink!".

As she was cheering, Caroline suddenly felt a familiar gaze on, looking infront of her, she saw Brayden looking at her.

Seeing Caroline's gaze on him, Brayden lifted his cup up, a smirk on his face, Caroline did the same and both the soulmates took a sip of their respective drinks, their eyes on each other the whole time.

Rebekah sat infront of the fire, trying to roast a marshmallow when Damon came and sat next to her.

"What? No friends your own age?" Rebekah asked, confused seeing Damon next to her.

"Like you can talk" Damon replied.

"Is this supposed to be fun? I've been through ten of these" Rebekah complained, gesturing towards her burnt marshmallow.

Damon grabbed the stick from Rebekah's hand, "You're just looking it all wrong" he said, removing the burnt layer of marshmallow, "Look, it's a little rough on the outside, but on the inside, yum", Damon held the marshmallow infront of Rebekah's mouth, who gladly ate it.

"Mm, it's good" Rebekah said.

"Yep" Damon said.

Unknown to Damon and Rebekah, Kaitlynn, who was standing a few steps away from them, was looking at the two vampires, with a extremely jealous look on her face, which someone had noticed.

"You're jealous" Brayden stated, walking behind Kaitlynn, startling the vampire who was too busy looking at Damon to realise someone was looking at her.

"What?" Kaitlynn asked, pretending to have no idea about what Brayden was on about.

"Don't pretend, Kait" Brayden said, "Damon is flirting with Rebekah, which is making you jealous".

Kaitlynn scoffed, "I'm not jealous" she lied, but even she didn't believe her own lie.

"By all means, Kait, be jealous, I don't care, but I'm pretty sure Damon will be extremely thrilled hearing this" Brayden said.

"I'm not jealous, Brayden" Kaitlynn snapped, "And you know what, instead of worrying about me, why don't you worry about your soulmate?".

"Excuse me?" Brayden asked, confused with what Kaitlynn was on about.

Kaitlynn didn't say anything, just pointed behind Brayden, causing the middle Salvatore to turn around.

Brayden saw Caroline leaning against a tree, with one of the football players standing next to her, and from the looks of it, he was flirting with her.

Without saying anything to Kaitlynn, Brayden walked over to Caroline and the football player. Reaching them, Brayden grabbed the football player by his collar and started compelling him.

"Leave from here, and never, I mean never flirt with Caroline again" Brayden compelled.

"What is your problem?!" Caroline snapped, once the football player had walked away.

"You're going home" Brayden told Caroline.

"No, I'm not" Caroline argued.

"Caroline, home, now" Brayden demanded.

Caroline smiled at Brayden, "Why Brayden?" she asked, "Did you feel jealous seeing the football player flirt with me?".

Brayden chuckled, "Don't be stupid Caroline, jealously is an emotion, and I don't feel any emotions" he reminded.

"Yet the look in your eyes tell me something completely different" Caroline said, walking away from Brayden after giving him a smirk.

Fae laid in the middle of the football field.

"Do you know that I know every constellation?" Fae asked, as Stefan walked over to her, "The perks of being alive for nearly two hundred years".

"Time to go home, Fae" Stefan said.

"No thanks" Fae said, "I want to sleep under the stars tonight, you know, I finally realise why Brayden loves stars, there's just something peaceful about them".

"Come on, Fae" Stefan said, "I'll drive you home".

Fae sat up and looked at Stefan, "Do you not feel any love for me?" she suddenly asked.

"I don't feel anything, Fae" Stefan replied.

Fae sighed, "But I feel everything" she whispered, "And it sucks being in love with someone who feels nothing for you".

"Then stop being in love with me" Stefan said.

Fae stood up, "If only it was that easy" she said, "I was away from you for thirty years and I couldn't forget you, so how can I forget you with you being infront of my eyes all the time".

"That sounds stupid, Fae" Stefan said.

"I know" Fae whispered, "I'm gonna hug you now, and I'd really appericate it if you don't push me away".

Before Stefan could protest, Fae had walked over to him and wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him, tightly, while Stefan stood there, not knowing what to do.

"I love you" Fae whispered, before snapping Stefan's neck.

Brayden walked over to Caroline who was laying on top of her car and staring at the dark sky.

"Always wanted to have sex on top of a car" Brayden said, letting his presence known to Caroline.

"Turn your humanity back on and we can have sex wherever you want" Caroline said.

"Nah, I'll pass" Brayden said, "But are you sure you don't want to have sex with a no humanity me, it will be much better sex then with humanity on me".

Caroline chuckled, "You know, humanity on and humanity off Brayden have something in common, they are both horny".

Brayden shrugged, "I'm not an idiot, Caroline" he said, "Humanity on or off, I realise that you're hot".

"Was that supposed to be a compliment?" An amused Caroline asked.

"Maybe" Brayden said.

Caroline stared at Brayden for a moment, she then jumped off of her car and stood infront Brayden.

"Can I ask you something?" Caroline asked, stepping closer to Brayden, "And you give me an honest, no joke answer?".

"Depends on the question" Brayden replied.

"When I come near you or when I touch you, like this" Caroline said, putting a hand on Brayden's cheek, "Do you really feel nothing?".

Brayden looked at Caroline, "I don't feel anything" he whispered.

"Why don't I believe you?" Caroline asked, stepping closer to Brayden, leaving no space between them.

"Because your love has made you an idiot" Brayden replied.

"I don't think so" Caroline said, slowly leaning towards Brayden.

Just as Brayden and Caroline's lips were about to touch, Brayden suddenly turned around and caught the arrow Alaric had thrown at him.

"How stupid do you two think I am?" Brayden asked, looking between shocked Caroline and Alaric.

"Brayden--".

"I warned you, Caroline" Brayden interrupted, "I'm not your old Brayden, you don't want to mess with me, but you just don't learn, do you? Well, maybe this will teach you a lesson".

Before Caroline could stop him, Brayden speeded over to Alaric and stabbed him in the stomach with the arrow.

"No!" Caroline yelled, as Alaric fell to the floor in pain.

Brayden turned to a shocked Caroline, a smirk on his face, "Stop trying to turn my humanity on,  the more you try, the more people get hurt".

After Brayden speeded away, Caroline bit into her wrist and rushed over to Alaric, after taking the arrow out of his stomach, Caroline fed Alaric her blood, she breathed a sigh of relief seeing his wound heal, she then looked in the direction Brayden walked away, tears welling in her eyes when she realised how hard it was going to bring her Brayden back to her.

Damon entered his room and saw Kaitlynn laying on his bed staring at the ceiling, without saying anything to her, Damon just walked over and laid next to her.

After a moment of silence, Kaitlynn finally spoke, "Today was a bust, Brayden figured out our plan and after Alaric's car blew up, Stefan also got away".

"Yeap, and knowing my brothers, now they are going to be on high alert" Damon said, "Which makes catching them off guard so much more harder".

Kaitlynn sighed, "Well, if it's any consolation, you did your part very well".

"Oh, yeah?" Damon asked, smirking hearing the jealously in Kaitlynn's voice.

"Mhmm" Kaitlynn replied, "Rebekah was ready to lick you and your marshmallows".

Damon scoffed, "Yeah, before she skewered me" he said, "I thought you were too busy to notice".

"I wasn't busy" Kaitlynn clarified, "I was just pretending to be".

"So was I" Damon admitted, making Kaitlynn look at him.

"You mind if I stay here in the night?" Kaitlynn asked, after a moment of silence.

Damon gave Kaitlynn a small smile, "Of course" he replied.

"But--".

"But no one finds out" Damon finished, "I know".

"Maybe one day they can" Kaitlynn whispered, closing her eyes and letting sleep take over.

Damon looked at Kaitlynn, a small smile on his face, without saying anything else, Damon also closed his eyes, happy to be sleeping beside the girl who was always going to have his heart.

Stefan walked into the living room, where Fae was sitting, staring at the fireplace.

"Well, you got me tonight" Stefan said, sitting next to Fae, "I definitely wasn't expecting that".

"I know" Fae said.

"You could have let me die in that fire tonight" Stefan said, "Why didn't you?".

"Because I'm in love with you" Fae replied, "When you're hurt, I feel the pain much more then you do".

"After everything I've done, you still think I'll be able to find my humanity again?" Stefan asked.

Fae nodded, "Yeap" she replied, "I don't care if no one believes in you, I do, I've always believed in you Stefan, and I refuse to give up on you, on us".

"Fae, do you have any idea how pathetic that makes you?" Stefan asked.

Fae chuckled, "No, Stefan, it just means I'm strong enough to love you in any of your forms".

After giving Stefan one last glance, Fae stood up and went up to her room, leaving Stefan behind to stare at the fire and let his thoughts take over.
