It was almost midnight in the town of Mystic Falls, while most people were asleep, Brayden Salvatore was aimlessly walking on the empty roads of Mystic Fall, he didn't know where he was going, he just kept walking.

Coming back to Mystic Falls was hard for Brayden, everytime he came back to this cursed town, he was always reminded of what he lost, his father, the love of his life, his brothers, and even himself.

Brayden hoped that this time, Mystic Falls won't give him pain, he just hopes that for the first time Mystic Falls doesn't take something from him, instead gives him something back, gives him his Kaitlynn back.

Brayden's chain of thoughts were broken when he heard a girl sobbing, being the curious person he was, Brayden followed the noise, which led him right towards a blonde girl, sitting on the side of the road crying.

"Stupid Caroline, insecure Caroline, shallow Caroline" The mystery girl said, throwing rocks on to the empty road.

Brayden was attempted to just walk away, he wasn't the type of person to get into teenage drama, instead he hated teenagers with a passion, but for some reason this blonde female infront of him intrigued him, he wanted to know why a girl like her was sitting on the side of the road crying, so against his better judgement, Brayden walked over to the mystery girl.

"Hey, are you okay?" Brayden asked.

The blonde female looked towards Brayden in shock, her eyes wide, she quickly wiped her tears and turned around her back to Brayden, not wanting him to see her cry.

"Please go away" The girl whispered.

Brayden was attempted to just walk away, but for some reason, his feet didn't agree with his mind, as he absentmindedly walked closer to the girl and sat next to her.

"You know, talking to strangers help, they don't judge you unlike the people you know" Brayden said.

"How do I know your not a psycho murder?" The mystery girl asked, still not facing Brayden.

"Trust me, if I wanted you dead, you will be dead already, I wouldn't being sitting on the side of this empty and creepy road, waiting for you to tell me why a beautiful girl like you is sitting here and crying?" Brayden asked.

The blonde girl, slowly turned and faced Brayden, "Beautiful?".

"I mean, your not hideous looking Princess" Brayden teased.

"I might be beautiful from the outside, but from the inside I'm hideous" the girl cried, "I'm shallow, I'm too loud, I say inappropriate things in a inappropriate manor, I'm never the first choice, it's always Elena, no matter how much I try, it's never me, god, why is it never me?".

"Let me guess, first heartbreak?" Brayden asked, knowing that feeling all to well.

"There was this guy I liked, I thought he liked me to, but turns out he was only talking to me to get closer to my best friend, Elena, even though she already has a boyfriend, I try so hard, but it's never enough".

"Well Princess, have you thought maybe your trying to hard for people who don't deserve it?" Brayden asked.

"What?" The girl asked confused.

"Maybe your problem is that your trying too hard to be like your friend, in the process your losing your true self" Brayden explained, "Maybe try being you instead of your friend, then watch how many guys would want you, your future boyfriend would have to fight a lot of guys off, who would want you, the real you".

The girl let out a small chuckle, "You think that will really work?".

Brayden laid back down on the road, his hands under his head, while he stared up at the stars, "Personally, if I saw a girl who was being someone she isn't, I wouldn't want anything to do with her, I like a girl who is confident in her true self, who doesn't try to be someone she isn't".

The mystery girl laid next to Brayden, "It's hard being myself, no one likes the real me".

"Well then you need new friends" Brayden said, "If your friends don't like the real you, then they don't deserve to be your friends".

The mystery girl sighed, "Who are you? I've never seen you in Mystic Falls before".

"I'm new" Brayden replied, "Me and my twin brother just moved here".

"Why move here?" The girl asked curiously, "This town is boring, why would you and your brother move here?".

"This town has a lot more to offer then you realise Princess" Brayden replied.

"Caroline".

"What?" Brayden asked confused.

"My name is Caroline, not Princess" Caroline replied.

Brayden looked at Caroline, a smirk on his face, "I don't know, I like Princess, it suits you".

"Why?" Caroline asked, "Cause I'm oblivious to the real world? I'm weak? I always need someone to come save me?".

Brayden chuckled, "No, cause you are stronger then you give yourself credit for, and I bet if you let go of the damsel in distress personality, you could easily be a badass, who doesn't need someone to save her".

"You don't even know me" Caroline whispered, her heart fluttering hearing Brayden's words.

"You're right, I don't know you Princess" Brayden said, "But I've been around for a long time, I can judge a character pretty perfectly".

"You're saying like your a hundred years old or something" Caroline joked.

Brayden chuckled, "If only you knew".

Caroline looked at Brayden in confusion, but before she can ask him any question, they heard someone call Caroline's name.

"Caroline! Caroline, where are you?!".

"Come on Care, you shouldn't be out here alone!".

Brayden sat up, "Well, looks like that's my que".

Caroline sat up and looked at Brayden, "Will I see you again?".

Brayden looked at Caroline and gave her a wink, "Of course you will".

"Caroline, there you are".

Caroline turned around to see Bonnie and Elena running towards her, Caroline turned back to say bye to Brayden, but she frowned when she saw no sign of him, anywhere, it was like he was never here in the first place.

"Caroline, come on, my parents are here to pick me up, I need to go, now" Elena urged.

Caroline sighed, "Yeah, okay", after glancing around one last time, but finding no sign of Brayden, a disheartened Caroline followed Elena and Bonnie.

"Found a new love interest, have you little brother?".

Brayden, who was hiding behind one of the many trees, took his eyes off of Caroline and turned around to see his twin brother, Damon Salvatore, looking at him with a smirk on his face.

"You're older by three minutes, stop calling me little brother" Brayden complained.

"Still older" Damon replied, "Now tell me, since when are you a therapist for teenage girls? I thought you hated them, according to you they are too clingy and childish".

"They are" Brayden said.

"So why did you help Blondie over there?" Damon asked.

"She seemed like she needed someone to talk to" Brayden mumbled, feeling slightly embarrassed that his brother saw everything.

"You don't do charity Bray, does my little brother have a little crush?" Damon teased.

"Shut the hell up" Brayden snapped, "You know I don't do crushes, I've only loved one girl, I helped Caroline because she needed my help, that's it".

"I'm just making sure you don't get distracted from our main goal by a blondie" Damon said.

"I won't Damon, you know I won't" Brayden said, "I'm here to free Kaitlynn, nothing else".

"Great" Damon said, "Now, let's go spy on our little brother, turns out his back in town as well".

"Gladly" Brayden whispered, walking behind Damon, glad he let go of Caroline's topic, because the truth was, his brother was right, Brayden wasn't the type of person to go around helping people, he was a very anti social person and only talked to someone if he was going to kill them, so him helping Caroline was a big thing, and though Brayden told Caroline they will meet again, Brayden really hopes they don't, because he felt like she might be the one thing that will distract him from his main mission.

Also I need to put some disclaimers about this book, first of all, Caroline is the main character in this book, so it's going to be about her not Elena, and A LOT of things will be different from the show, Caroline will be a bit different specially around Brayden and Damon.

ALSO, no Delena in this book, it's eventually going to be Kaitlynn and Damon, it's obviously going to be a slow burn, but trust me they are also going to be epic just like Brayden and Caroline, but they will happen around season three/four so be patient 🤗
