My Father Taught Me: ...Never Buy New

Buying a hot piece of technology is incredibly tempting.

It's also a giant waste of money.

For one thing, it's impossible to follow the 'Look Before You Buy' rule if you don't give an item time to gain reviews.

While it might sound very promising on paper, actual usage might be different.

Initial usage might not match long term usage either, so while the first reviewers may love the product, stick around and see if it changes over time.

Does the product consistently break after six months of use? Or do people still love it a year later.

The second reason to wait is price. New items are always more expensive at first. Give it time for another item to enter the market. If the next version comes out, the price usually drops dramatically, and if you can resist buying the now newer and hotter item, you may have just gotten yourself a good deal.

While I personally, have a hard time waiting long enough for an item to become an older model, I do try to wait at least four to six months. Enough time for reviewers to get a really good feel for the product.
