The One That Got Away
________________________
Summer after high school when we first met
We'd make out in your Mustang to Radiohead
And on my 18th Birthday
We got matching tattoos

"I'll drown my beliefs
To have your babies", Blaine whispered seductively along to the lyrics, causing Kurt to let out a breathy chuckle.
"I'll dress like your niece
And wash your swollen feet", Kurt sang back, fighting to keep a smile off his face. But then he leaned up and connected their lips again and the song was forgotten, just background noise now.
Just don't leave
Don't leave
Blaine groaned as Kurt slipped his tongue into his mouth, both battling for dominance straight away.
I'm not living, I'm just killing time
Your tiny hands, your crazy-kitten smile
"I'm so in love with you." Kurt moaned against his boyfriend's lips as they rolled around on the backseat.
Just don't leave
Don't leave
"Love you." Blaine replied as he massaged the new mark on Kurt's arm; a small cursive 'courage' was tattooed on his right arm. Kurt laughed slightly as he began to do the same to Blaine's matching tattoo.
And true love waits
In haunted attics
And true love lives
On lollipops and crisps
"I can't believe your dad gave you a Mustang." Kurt grinned as he finally rolled Blaine over onto his back, pinning the boy's hands down above his head.
Just don't leave
Don't leave
"Well you better believe it, baby. 'Cause we're about to christen it." Blaine winked before leaning up to kiss him again.

Used to steal your parents' liquor
And climb to the roof
Talk about our future
Like we had a clue
Never planned that one day
I'd be losing you

"I can't believe we actually did this." Kurt laughed as he and his boyfriend lay down as the side of Puck's pool.
"I know. I feel so badass." Blaine grinned.
"Are you sure your parents won't notice?"
"Relax," Blaine grinned as he turned on his side to face Kurt, "Puck's going to replace all the alcohol we took and my parents will never know the difference."
"I know, it's just your parents always seemed so protective over their liquor cabinet." Kurt pouted.
Blaine raised an eyebrow at his boyfriend before jumping to his feet, Kurt frowning up at him, "Don't worry about it." Blaine grinned and leaned down to scoop his boyfriend into his arms and swing him over his shoulder.
"Ahh, Blaine! Put me down!" Kurt shrieked as the boy continued to walk slowly forwards, the rest of the New Directions had noticed by now and were all laughing at the pair.
"Okay, I'll put you down." Blaine grinned, leaning forwards and dropping Kurt straight into the pool before jumping in after him.
Kurt rose to the surface, gasping and spluttering as he turned to glare at Blaine, "Oh you're gonna get it, Anderson."
The rest of the night was spent with Kurt chasing Blaine around the pool and the New Directions smiling at the couple's antics.

"I can't believe you'd do this to me, Kurt!" Blaine yelled.
"I don't know what I've done!"
"And I thought that you'd at least admit to it! I didn't think you were like this."
"And I didn't thing you were like this! I don't know I what I've done, Blaine!"
"Y'know what? Forget it. I'm over you anyway."
"Wait, you're over me? What the hell does that mean?" Kurt yelled, throwing his arms up in the air.
"It means we're over." Blaine whispered, wiping a tear away that was running down his cheek.
"Fine. I don't need you anyway." Kurt glared at the boy who nodded sadly before turning around and walking away. Forever.
"Bye, Kurt." Blaine sighed, "I love you."
Kurt clenched his jaw in an attempt to keep the tears at bay, at least for while Blaine was still there.
Blaine shook his head sadly when Kurt didn't say anything back, taking that as a definite goodbye.

Blaine was finally happy. He was in New York. He had no one to tie him down. And he was happy...
Kurt, however, was not happy. He was also in New York, he wasn't going to let Blaine destroy his dreams. But Blaine had destroyed his dreams. Because his dream was Blaine. And now he didn't have Blaine.

I was June and you were my Johnny Cash
Never one without the other, we made a pact
Sometimes when I miss you
I put those records on (Whoa)
Someone said you had your tattoo removed
Saw you downtown singing the Blues
It's time to face the music
I'm no longer your muse

"Hey, Kurt?" Burt glanced across the table to his son, "Do you still have that tattoo you and Blaine got together?"
"Uh," Kurt frowned at his dad, discreetly bringing his right arm under the table, "W-what makes you say that?"
"Oh, it's just that I saw Blaine the other day and I noticed that he didn't have it tattoo. It was on his right arm, right?"
"Y-yeah, it was." Kurt glanced down at his food, picking up his fork to push some peas around his plate.
"Well, do you have it?"
"Dad-"
"-Just as I thought." Burt nodded sadly, "You need to get over him, Buddy."
"I-I can't just get over him."
"Blaine did. I think he's dating someone. I saw him serenading this guy when I met him the other day."
"Well, Blaine was the one who broke up with me."
"Kurt-"
"-So, how's Carole doing?" Kurt smiled, changing the subject.
Burt sighed, "She's doing fine. She's a bit sad she couldn't be here but-"

Kurt was humming quietly to himself as he waited in the line to get some coffee when someone bumped into him.
"Sorry." That voice sounded familiar.
Kurt turned around to assure the man that it was ok but froze when he met a pair of hazel eyes, "Blaine?"
"Kurt, hi." Blaine whispered, before shaking his head, "Umm, I- uh, I gotta go deliver this."
Kurt frowned as he glanced down to where Blaine was pointing, only just noticing that Blaine was wearing a uniform and was carrying a tray with a coffee and a couple of biscuits, "Oh, you work here?"
"Yeah." Blaine laughed quietly, "It was great to see you, Kurt."
"You too." Kurt smiled as he watched the man he still loved stepping backwards and bumping into a chair behind him, "You should probably watch where you're going."
"Probably." Blaine agreed, standing still as he smiled goofily at Kurt before shaking his head and turning around to walk away, but not before glancing over his shoulder one more time to look at Kurt and bumping into a table.
Kurt smiled slightly. There was hope.

Kurt continued to go to the same coffee shop, normally meeting Blaine there and finding a way to have a conversation with the boy.
Blaine always seemed hesitant at first but once they got to talking, Kurt found that he was still the energetic boy he still loved, but now he was a man. A fully grown man who had been living without Kurt for 5 years.
Kurt hadn't been living, he'd just not been dying. There hadn't been one day that went by when Kurt hadn't dreamt of Blaine or longed to be back in the boy's arms, but now he could at least talk to the man he loved.
Kurt tried to hide his smirk, however, when he found that Blaine wasn't actually dating anyone, like his dad had told him. Blaine had been serenading the man for a friend of his, not himself.

Kurt continued to meet up with Blaine for 2 months before he noticed a change in Blaine.
The boy always seemed distant, as if something was bothering him deep down.
But Kurt found out one day when Blaine met him at their usual table with a disappointed look on his face.
"I can't do this." He had said.
"Can't do what?"
"I thought I was strong enough to talk to you, to get to know you again and maybe to even be with you again. As boyfriends. But I cant. It hurts too much. I'm sorry, Kurt, but I can't talk to you any more."
And then he had left, taking a part of Kurt's heart with him.

"Okay, Kurt. Spill."
"What?" Kurt frowned.
"You've been depressed all of last week and now all of this weekend. What's going on with you?"
"I'd rather not talk about it, Chandler."
"Well, you have to. Otherwise I'll just leave because all of your sadness is starting to rub off on me. And you know how I hate to be sad."
"I don't think I know anyone who likes to be sad."
"Stop stalling. I want answers. And I want them now."
"Fine, I'd been seeing Blaine quite a lot and we quite often sat down to talk for a bit. He works at that coffee place I go to a lot. Anyway, everything had been going fine until last week he told me that he couldn't do it anymore. That it hurt too much to talk to me. So, there, I blew it again."
"You didn't blow it! Do you not know what this means?" At Kurt's confused look Chandler continued, "It means that he's still in love with you but he's afraid you'll break up again! This is your chance! Go get your man!"
"But I-"
"You don't know where he is?" Chandler raised an eyebrow, "I do. I know where he lives."
"Geez, stalker much?"
"Shut up. Do you want my help or not?"
"I didn't think I had a choice."
"You're right, you don't. Now. come on! I'll drive you to your boy's house so you can win him back!"

Blaine was just locking the door to his house when he heard someone talking.
"Chandler, I can't do this." Blaine glanced up when he heard the familiar voice of his ex, "What if he's actually moved on?" The boy was fighting to get away from another boy who was pushing him forward with a smirk.
"Go get him." Blaine heard the boy whisper in Kurt's ear before shoving Kurt forward, causing him to stumble a bit and almost fall over.
"Hi." Kurt whispered quietly what he had straightened himself up and finally noticed Blaine standing still, watching him.
"Hey."
"Ok, I know you said that you didn't wanna see me again but just let me talk for a minute. So, I know I screwed up last time. And I'm guessing I screwed up this time if it made you not want to talk to me anymore but I love you. I've always loved you. I never stopped. And-and I know you probably don't feel the same because you got rid of your tattoo and-"
Blaine's brain decided to stop working at that point. Because Blaine could no longer hear Kurt over the rain pounding down on their heads. Kurt had water running down his face and Blaine wasn't sure if they were tears or rain. He hope it was the rain.
Blaine still couldn't hear Kurt, all he could do was watch Kurt's face move. His eyes were desperate, his hair was flat on his head from all the rain, his lips were moving frantically as he spoke- his lips. Blaine couldn't stop watching his lips.
So, because Blaine's brain had stopped working, he did the only logical thing he could think of at that moment.
Lean forward, take Kurt's face in his hands and kiss the boy like he'd wanted to ever since the day Blaine had walked away from him all those years ago in the McKinley parking lot.
And Kurt was kissing back, wrapping his arms around his neck. Rain pelted down on their heads, running down their faces and ruining their hair. But they didn't care, as long as they see in each other's arms they could get through anything.
