Five: Tension

What was I thinking?!

I barely know Aaron and I agreed to go over to his place!

That's like kissing on the first date!

I was nerve racked, What if his place was just filled with junk, or maybe he was super rich and has gold plated... everything!

I don't know why I was so panicked, he's assured me that everything would be fine, but, what if he's a secret serial killer and just wants to lure me in so I can be his next victim.

It was nearly noon, he would be coming soon to pick me up, did I look okay? Did I smell weird?

Why did I care? It's not like he asked me out. He just asked me to hang out. Or... Did he actually ask me out?!

No. No. I need to calm down, you know enough about him, he's your friend. Your just hanging out.

A hard knock on the door spiraled my brain into overdrive, my heart wanted to explode from my chest, why did I agree to this, why?

"Aph? It's me." I slowly; and nervously opened the door, he smiled and chuckled, obviously I wasn't hiding my emotions too well.

"Why are you nervous?" He asked, leaning against the doorframe, I blushed, I didn't want him to know my emotions, but it seemed he could read me like a book.

"I-I'm not!" My voice cracked and a smirk started to make It's way to his face, this man was going to kill me.

"Oh? Then why are you so red?" He flirted playfully, I groaned under my breath, man he was good.

"Because... just, let's go!" I huff and lock the door behind me, and he chuckles a little.

We take about ten steps to the left and he swings open his door to let me in.

It was, actually quite normal, a big squishy black couch with two armchairs around a round, glass table.

He didn't have a dining table either, but had a black marble island with two matching black stools, and a burgundy kitchen filled with spices and foods I'd never heard of.

His bedroom was locked tight, what was behind that glossy black door I did not know, but I desperately wanted to.

"I'd have to take you on a date if you wanna go in there." Aaron noticed my curios gaze at the door, and I smirked, I wasn't gonna let him get the best of me.

"Isn't this already a date?" I sassed back, and his smirk faltered, I had won.

"N-no. I.... It's not." I laughed and made myself at home on his couch, and he laughed along with me, sitting comfortably in one of the armchairs.

"See? Easy." He remarked, and I assumed he had his eyes closed because he fell silent for a moment.

I took this moment to get a good look at him.

He was well built, even under his open jacket and tall. Very tall, but, other than that he seemed normal, other than the startling sharp teeth near the front of his mouth.

"Careful, don't want me biting you." He playfully snapped his mouth in my direction, how did he know I was staring?

"How do you do that? I asked, cocking my head much like he does when asking a question.

"Do what?"

"Know where I am, without looking, like when you knew I was behind the door the other day." I saw him visibly tense, but he slowly relaxed, almost like he was listening to the air.

"I heard you, you are very loud." He replied simply, something told me that this wasn't the whole truth, but I let it slide and slowly got lost in my own thoughts.

Before I could even react too much, loud angry banging brought our attention to the door and Aaron growled under his breath.

"Someone's ticked." He mumbled, going up
To the door and opening it quickly.

Derek, angry and almost steaming at the ears thumps in with face that screamed lecture.

Then, he looked at me.

"What is she doing here?!" He looked like he was about to explode and I felt epically small compared to him.

"She's my friend. I invited her over, Dad." I had never heard Aaron's voice so tense in my life, but then, the volume of his words hit me like a truck.

If Aaron's Dad was the same guy giving me higher rent, and Aaron says he gets a cut from his father, and he's giving me some of that very same cut.

I'm basically throwing his own money at him.

And also. Derek is Aaron's Dad.

Aaron is Derek's son.

And I've been giving him personal information this entire time.

"Why?!" I could see the smoke billowing out of his ears, but I just sat in silence, what if Aaron was giving information to his father?

"Because I am a normal adult!" At this I could see Aaron trembling with rage, his fists balling up and breath getting uneven.

"You'll never be normal, we were born like this!" His father shouted back with equal rage, now I was interested, and I could see something shifting in Derek's eyes, a slight glimmer of crimson in his dark eyes.

"Then why did you decide to have kids? Why couldn't you just let it die with you?" Aaron's voice suddenly went soft, and if anything that was a hundred times scarier than him yelling.

And Derek stopped suddenly in his tracks, it was like a line had been crossed and they both knew it.

"Well?" Aaron pressured, I could tell he was in no mood to care about what his father felt.

"Your coming home, now." Is the only thing his father said, but Aaron was ready and I could tell this had been building up for years.

"I am home, I bought this place with my own money, it's mine, and raise the rent all you want because I am never going back to that prison you call a home. Ever." His voice was like butter but with the edge of knife, and his father looked shocked.

"You dare?" He started, but Aaron wasn't finished yet.

"I dare? I dare! You have beaten me down for the last time. You've never made me better, you've made my condition worse! I have to wear this stupid cloth just to not kill anybody!" He points at his bandana and the powerful man in front of him stood shocked, most likely, this was the first time someone had pointed out his wrongs.

"Aaron. I-" With one final huff Aaron turned to him a final time, cutting him off and ending the argument.

"Get out."

Derek just, did what he was told. And left with this look of 'oh shit' on his face.

Aaron sat down on the couch beside me and covered his face in his hands, breathing heavily, I wanted to do something, but something bothered me.

I have to wear this stupid cloth just to stop from killing somebody!

"Are you alright?" I asked, putting my hand on his shoulder.

He turned to look at me, his body still shaking.

"No, not really. I'm sorry you had to see that..." He trailed off, breathless, I could tell he was drained emotionally.

And he was so calm before his dad came in.

"I didn't know Derek was your father. Must be a pain." I tried to make light of the situation, and Aaron started to smile, only for it to be quickly replaced with a frown.

"He gets in my business and gets mad over me existing. I wouldn't even call him my father if I didn't respect him, but I do, sometimes he just needs a reality check." He sighed, he was starting to calm down, but I could start to also see the fear in his breathing.

"That's the... Uh.... first time I stood up to him...." He stammered, and I could see his hands start to shiver.

"Aphmau, I'm so sorry, I might've just made your life horrible." He buries his face in his hands again and I'm left confused.

"What? How? It's not like I did anything." I replied, trying to make him feel better.

"He'll want to separate us, I think he thinks we're together. And he'll do everything in his power to do that." He explained, and I blushed a little at the thought.

Wait. Why am I blushing?

"But I don't want you to worry, I'll take care of my father, and if he makes it unbearable for you to live here I'll get you a new place. I'm so sorry I wrapped you into my life." I chuckled and grabbed his hands to make him stop shaking so much, I had more questions, but they could wait.

"Don't be sorry. Everybody deserves the chance to be normal, even if they aren't." I smiled at him and I could've sworn I saw him turn pink a little.

"Uh... Thank you."

"Now, I got questions, since you've wrapped me up in this, I want to know everything." He suddenly looked really nervous, and even let out a nervous chuckle.

"Let's just, start with a little, I'll tell you, just, not all at once, and not now." I rolled my eyes, I didn't even realize we were still holding hands until he let go of mine.

"You already know my name, Aaron, my last name is Lycan, and My father is a billionaire, and an ass." I chuckled but sat back to listen.

"I have a sister, she lives in Italy with Mom, in our family home there." He was Italian? He didn't look it, especially with him being so tan.

"When I was three my Dad took me to New York, my mom and sister, obviously didn't come with us." And that answered my question.

"He wasn't around a lot, I was raised by my maid, who luckily taught me humility and hard work, or I probably would have grown to be as bad as my father." I leaned in to hear him, as he had started to trial off.

"After I graduated college I jumped around a lot, trying to live on my own without my father butting in. You see how that went." I waited to make sure he was done, and then giggled, his past was so interesting.

"That still doesn't explain the bandana." He laughed and looked at me, a sweet, gentle smile coming onto his face.

"Not yet. Aphmau, you'll have to get to know me a little more first, and when I'm ready, I'll tell you." I squinted at him for a moment before huffing.

"Promise?"

He chuckled, then nodded his head.

"Promise."
