4 | Dawning
Two nights of fitful sleep passed since John told me I was a clone on Friday. A clone who would be dying if I didn't follow his absurd plan tomorrow.
I rolled over in my bed and fixed my gaze on the blurry digital clock as the numbers ticked from 12:00 to 12:01.
Today I would be free.
I'd feel the sun on my face for the first time. Logically, I knew the sun was a sphere of hot plasma, but there was such a difference between knowing and feeling. Or at least, that's what John said.
I focused on that instead of the roiling in my stomach at the prospect of the outside. The unknown.
I took in the little room I spent my life living in with three other girls- Iota, Sigma, and Theta. I called this bunk bed my home for as long as I could remember.
This was where I'd had my first, awkward kiss with Omicron.
This was where Iota cut my hair into that god-awful bob.
This was where I'd pierced her ears with a syringe I stole from the lab.
I didn't want to leave them behind, but I had to. The plan would only work for one person and I wanted to save myself. I could only hope that one day they'd understand.
