“Sebastian! I'm glad you answered. I need to tell you something.”

“And what would that be?”

“It's about my past. I'm going to tell you eve–”

“I already know about it, Mar.”

“..H-How?”

“Chris told me everything. From how creepy as hell you were to your ex-boyfriend Travis and how Scarlett bailed you out.”

“But I've changed! You can't let my past be the judge of my present and future!”

“Martha.. I know you said you've changed but I saw how.. how stalker-ish you've been to me. Chris explained it everything to me. You have issues, Mar. I'm not saying it's a bad thing – we all have our issues sometimes – but you have records –”

“Sebastian, please let me explain.”

“Hear me out first. I just want you to be better. A better version of yourself than you are now. I'm so sorry for doing this over the phone but I don't think I can face you right now. This is me being a bit scared of what you might do to me. Listen to me, Mar. I'm doing this because I care for you and a person who cares for you wants the best for you. Do you get that?”

“I-I do..”

“Maybe in a few days or so we can talk about this in person. We can have Chris and Scarlett around..”

“I am so sorry for making you afraid of me.. I didn't mean to. All I wanted was someone to love me and you came and I just – I haven't felt loved like that in the past few years. I.. I promise you this, Sebastian. I'll be better for you..”

“Don't get better for me, but for yourself. Maybe I'm not the one for you Mar, but there are billions of people in this earth we walk in. You will find someone who will love you unconditionally despite your past. Just make sure the person you end up with is worthy of your tears and love. That you must promise me.”

“I p-promise.. but what if the guy I find was perfect at first then he turns out to be an asshole?”

“Then I'll beat his ass for you. I may not be your boyfriend anymore but I'm still a friend you can lean on.”

“Thank you, S-Sebastian. I'm sorry I wasn't the person you thought I would be.. I really am. If I could return to the past and fix my mistakes, I would. I'd make things right with you. You don't deserve this..”

“Don't apologize to me, Mar. I know it's been a tough ride for you – for us while we were together – but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the moments we spent together. And Mar?”

“Yes?”

“That's the thing about the past – you can't change it. As much as you want to go back, you can't. We've done some stupid shit in the past because of dumbass reasons, but some of those reasons were worth it. You either get to be happy and content, or get sad and heartbroken.. there-there's no in-between, really. Ugh fuck, what am I saying?”

“Don't worry, Seb. You made sense. Still that doesn't change it that I'm so sorry. I know you're still sore about your breakup with –”

“Don't say it.”

“..her and here I am breaking your heart again. I hope you can find someone who will mend your heart into two and not shatter it. I wish you all the best.”

“Thank you for that but let's see. Sometimes I don't think I deserve happiness, or love, but when you guys say things like that – it makes me believe that I still have another shot at finding the one.. Oh, it's getting late. I have work tomorrow. I guess this is goodnight, Mar. Let's talk about this in person soon. Take care.”

“You deserve happiness, believe me. Thank you for everything, Sebastian. You take care of yourself too. Goodnight.”
