Deeper Pockets

•|•|•

"I think you need to get some rest, miss all-nighter" Lucas advised, as we came to a stop in the middle of the crossroads, leading to the boy's and girls' scepters.

The morning was still fresh, but being a Saturday, everyone was still sound asleep.

Only a few red and orange firewall recruits spotted in instances disappeared down the corridors to get their much-needed rest.

I stifled down a yawn I had been in the middle of but nodded as his eyes danced in amusement.

He handed me the bag he was so graciously lifting for me.

I took it with a thank you smile.

He took something out of his pocket, my eyes narrowing down on it as he lifted it for me, "It's probably best to not forget these either," he added handing me my keys.

My mouth curved into an O, but he only chuckled. "It's not your fault. You just really need deeper pockets."

I took them from him slightly embarrassed tucking them in between the pages of my notebook. His eyes lingered there for a second with another laugh and I frowned patting my book.

They were safe there. He shouldn't judge me.

And he shook his head, drawing closer, towering over me as he always did.

"Thank you," he stated, his tone low, "for being there."

My breath was hollow as I looked up into those hazel eyes, honesty shining through them.

"I needed someone, and you were there. Couldn't ask for more."

I swallowed dryly, pushing my book closer to my chest, as he leaned closer, hovering over me for a second whilst my heart beat dramatically faster.

His fingers took something from below, revealing it to be the keys I had just tucked in my book, slipping through the pages, almost about to drop again, and he took them tucking them in my pajama pocket.

"Deeper pockets," he repeated whilst my cheeks reheated, going even hotter when he placed a kiss on my cheek, drawing away with a smile on his face, before backing off backward.

"I'll see you after you get some rest," he grinned, before turning around and walking off, scratching the back of his head as he did.

I watched him for a moment, a smile on my face before turning around and walking off.

I reached my room, turning the handle, only remembering I needed to unlock it till after it budged, my ears immediately picking up the soft sounds of Daya's laugh.

I took a deep breath in, pushing the door open.

I knew it would be awkward as the last time we talked it was all about threats, but now it might even be worse given all that Lucas might have probably said to her.

Ellie was in too, seated on a chair, both still dressed in their suits, as they had both been by the firewall.

Eyes immediately attached themselves to my frame as I walked in, closing the door behind me quietly.

I hated this silence more than ever because I could feel their poisonous gazes on my back.

My one wish was that none of them would say anything to me, or even worse, ask me where I had been.

How was I going to answer that? That I had spent the night with Harvest waiting for Lucas?

This sucked so bad.

I placed my stuff in my wardrobe closing it timidly before walking back to bed, in all senses of the word exhausted and just needed my soft comfortable bed back.

They resumed talking after a few seconds to my relief, as I pushed my sheets going back to bed, staring at the wall for a few seconds trying hard not to listen to a conversation that was impossible to avoid.

They spoke of their night at the firewall, basically how hot it was there, and how they were so frustrated with how Rangi ran things.

I wasn't there to speak much of it, but the twins were some of the most patient people I had met, and I was quite sure that despite even Claire saying they were a tad bit strict, I didn't think they could have been as reckless as Ellie was currently describing.

"The wall dimmed to its ultimate low, if it wasn't for that illusionist red, the Gigan would have had us for dinner. It kept coming close to the wall, and I suggested to the twins that it would be better to move the wall a bit further in to scare it farther away, but no- they would never take a suggestion from someone who isn't an original," she grunted, her tone filled with spite.

I rolled my eyes at this. The firewall was built in the ditches that had to be dug by the lines that run through Kingsland demarcating the restricted and the Forest from the rest of Kingsland.

Had they moved any further in, they could have started a forest fire, given all those crunchy dried leaves and trees that littered the forest.

That was the last thing anyone would want.

I shut my eyes taking in a deep breath, trying to focus on anything but the two girls in my room, only to open them seconds later as I remembered all that had happened during last night.

I was thinking of him.

How he stayed with me the whole night, let me rest on his shoulder. I swear it was moments like that I was unsure if I knew who Harvest was.

Of course, he was a mystery that I had yet to figure out, however, I began to feel I misjudged pieces of his personality, even if he tended to be a bit bipolar.

I let out a short breath, sighing into my pillow and it was almost as if I could still smell him, his warmth-

I shivered slightly at this, faintly hearing the door close behind me, as my eyes shut succumbing to the darkness.

The day passed quite eventful per se. I was woken up by a gleeful team of friends, and we spent the day trailing the firewall lines, all around Kingsland.

Claire had stories filled with all that had happened last night, how she was in charge of confusing the Gigan anytime he had gotten too near to the Firewall.

In her words, it was both exhilarating and scary, but she managed thanks to Harvest and Raskei, though she did note that Harvest had not stayed for long.

She huffed as she sat in the grass shaking her head, "I figure he is more of a methodist," she trailed off, eyebrows arching as she stared out into the forest before us.

We sat on a patch of green in between the maze and the forest, on what would have been considered the Leviathan base had this been the Inter Color Games.

I stared up at the cloudy afternoon sky with a lazy smile on my face.

"Seems like the do-it-yourself type," David huffed in reply, laying back in the warm grass too.

"Definitely," all three of them replied at once and I nodded at the same time causing us all to chuckle.

"Oh it was a wonderful night," she yawned, her head turning to face me smiling and so did I, watching as she pushed the glasses back up her nose.

We giggled in the grass, spending more time chatting about all that happened this week, and the Inter Color match that was to be held next week, just before the King's visit.

I sat up as they talked, scratching my wrists, eyes narrowing down at the first tree in the forest, two Ravens perched on a branch cawing loudly.

I looked down at my wrists, eyebrows furrowing, raising my arm to see better.

The rash had healed but it had left a tattoo-like scar, an almost complete circle with a squiggle in the middle I couldn't quite piece together.

My eyebrows arched at this-
