Chapter 6; Smithereens

Corey could tell that Casper wasn't feeling quite well mentally recently. Could it be the book? could it be that she missed Dema? Did she feel alone here? Corey couldn't tell, and he was honestly too scared to do anything, worried it would make things worse. Sometimes, he would stumble onto her crying in the lesser populated parts of camp, other times, she could be seen just on the edge, still staring out at the city.

While Casper was staring out at the distant city, Corey thought it was finally time to say something to the girl. She walked up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder, making her flinch, and Corey quickly apologized. Corey's words seemed to stumble out of his mouth, as he sounded like he was confessing his love, although he was just trying to make her feel better, how he was saying it was easily taken two different ways. "For you, i'd go step to a dude much bigger than me." he spoke softly. "For you, I would get beat to smithereens!' he raised his voice a tad, but didn't make it sound like he was mad. Casper tried avoiding eye contact, even moving her head to the side, and that was when Corey got the hint.

Casper had been planning her escape for months now, claiming she wanted to go back home, to the real world. Corey wasn't having it, though. "what do you mean 'Real World'? THIS is the real world. don't you trust us?". Casper shook her head and tried moving away, which Corey let happen with a mix of sadness and disappointment in his eyes. He had to try convincing her, he wouldn't just let her leave, but at this point, it seemed he had to. he sat down on the log Casper was on previously and stared at the city.
